We were obviously discussing this earlier. I for one do not think he sucks, I just question his style of play going over well in the NCAA tournament. I think moving that fast and relying on the three-point shot can be a recipe for disaster if you have an off game. Much like pitno's teams did early in his tenure at UK it can be highly successful but look no further than UNC and the elite 8 in 95 or Marquette in '94.

That style of play can suffocate a team that you are much more talented than, however if you run up to somebody with similar talent or better defensively I would have a cause for concern of the outcome.

He certainly plays an exciting style I will give him that for sure.
Just like Cal, Oats has a certain type of player that works well for his system and he has it this year.

It looks like there are 8 Alabama jerseys on the court at all times. They seem to get every rebound.

You can't fire 30 threes a game and that be your only thing. But when you are elite on the glass AND on defense, you can take all the threes you want.

This is a far more modern style than what we're used to seeing.

Oats would kill it at UK.

I don't think it was as dominant as what Bama did to LSU today, but UK did that to UCLA on the rd in a true road game, so it was pretty impressive for sure

Up 41 to 7 at half is pretty damn dominant and they won 83 to 44. I thought it was a neutral court game in that tournament thing with osu and unc.

On alabama they are clearly the class of the sec and look like a final four team.

You live in Louisville, don't you? You act like a Louisville fan.
Ewww, no. I did work in Louisville for about 4 months once, when I lived in Elizabethtown. It was awful!

I live in Lexington, but I am a snowbird in FL.

Well that 4 month stint in louisville really did a number on you.

Tend to agree...team is definitely more well rounded than past teams.

Meanwhile, in Eugene, Oregon… .

You're boy is losing to another team that won't even qualify for the CBI snd they look like ***.
You mean the guy with the same amount of post season success in 1 year as Nate Oats has in 9?

Hasn't Bama been beaten pretty soundly a couple of time this year as well?

Did they play the same teams in the NCAAT? You act like Lloyd beat the teams Oats lost to.

Looks to me like Alabama is the best team in the country, Arizona is a fraud, just like their coach.

Lloyd would get his *** kicked in the SEC.

Your boy is a fraud.

Alabama losing to uconn and Gonzaga isn't the same as these 2 awful unranked losses for Arizona of late.

Lloyd is worse than Sean Miller. Even Sean Miller didn't lose like this and he damn sure never got thumped at home to a team as bad as WASU is.

Dude. That Bama team is legit. They are easily the Number one team right now.

Oats is going to be SEC Coach of the Year. Or White at UGA.

Well. Tbf Lloyd isn’t cheating his *** off like Sean Miller so there is that. But yeah. Lloyd and Davis have come back to earth a bit.

I have to agree, they are giving out beat downs.

I don't have alot of faith in SEC teams making deep tourney runs, but they can put a hurt on someone

Oats has found a couple of dudes to give him a decent inside game when their threes aren’t falling. And that’s what he’s been missing. He has a complete team that can shoot but if they aren’t hitting can get to the line. Reminds me of Cal’s early teams tbh.

The question becomes what will your thoughts be of Oats if Alabama secures a one or two seed this year (which is basically a lock at this point), but they lose in rd of 32 or sweet 16?

I have flip flopped on Oats numerous times. And you are correct that the players he has this year definitely fit his system, plus they can beat you even if they aren't clicking from deep.

I will wait to see how he performs in the tourney this year with a pretty dominant team that will be favored to advance to the final four. Will definitely have the most pressure on him this tourney than he has ever had in his coaching career. To me, performance this year in tourney will speak volumes to me.

Of course not! You know damn well Nate Oats doesn't get to play many teams in the tournament. Why you gotta call him out like that? 🤣

If they are the best team, why are 3 teams still ranked above them?

He's not really my boy. I would just take him long before I would Nate Oats. I want someone proven like Bennett, Pearl, Sampson, Wright, Donovan, Vogel, as a last resort...Scott Drew.

Oats clearly has something going on at Bama

I personally believe he still has to prove he can do it in the tourney before he is in the conversation for UK.

That would be true for any coach.

The great thing about Oats is his trajectory is moving up at a school that doesn't give two you know whats about a basketball game. That is hard to do.

Bama is starting to care. That’s evident in their wins and ranking. Not to mention support for Oats.

Is it UK levels of caring. No. And never will be. But Bama is excited about basketball. At least right now.

Why would I change my mind on him? Cal lost with an NBA starting 5 in 2010, WVa, who ended up getting handled in the next round.

That doesn't mean he was the wrong guy for the job, he rattled off 4 final 4's and a title.

As long as Alabama stays healthy, especially Miller, they ain't losing in the 2nd round. They rebound and defend too well.

You know who's not going anywhere? Arizona.
