I can believe this. It’s Cal’s way of doing things burn a place down as he goes out the door. Plus it’s spot on for him to leave after he Finally brings in a great class again. I won’t lie, I’d like to see what that class would do at UK but at the same time I feel llike at best they make the Elite 8 and lose to a team they have no business losing to all due to our piss poor coaching.

Thing is he will have to produce with that class under the UK microscope. I think he knows he can’t.

Solution?

Get out from under the microscope
And...why stay here where he's not wanted and relentlessly scrutinized when he can just take the recruits to a different school?

yea, I mean Cal wouldn't probably get a strong look at this point in his career based on his failing at Kentucky but couple that with him as a package deal of Wagner and 2 other studs, now you have a reason to hire the guy to a short term contract.

In that context it makes perfect sense for Cal to bolt at the end of this season because he can bring instant final four conversation to whatever program hires him and he can parlay that into a lucrative 5 year contract to keep the gravy train going.

Even if he can't promise the kids, all he has to do is point to him coming to UK with Cousins, Wall and Bledsoe

For all we know that might have been the motivator for Cal to put this class together in the first place - an exit strategy to greener pastures.

I like how the @CatPhight alias has shown up within 24 hours after being dormant for months like clockwork the last two times gromcat has been banned. 🤣

You guys are embarrassingly immature but aren’t fooling anyone that has higher than a middle school education. 😂

Where’s @Backer cutter with his claim that he knows how far apart certain posters live? A moderator sharing sensitive info with regular users on a group text maybe??? We may be getting into a legal situation now!! Top of the day, sir!! 🤣
Wow Baller Cal,/Dude Love/Jload22/etc you've really gone round the bend.

If Cal does leave, UK fans should prepare for that class to scatter to the winds and not whine about it.

We know its coming. That was part of the deal with Cal as the coach. Its time for him to go and that is part of the price we pay. They are not going to stay because of the name on the front of the jersey. We'll have to fend off individual bidders for NIL packages as well.

I just hope Sandy Bell is on top of everything right now too.

It's a price I would be willing to pay at this point, especially if this season stays off the rails. If Cal miraculously orchestrates a recovery this season and we finish decent and win a few games in the tournament, I might say this guy just saved his bacon for another year. But if this season heads where it sure looks like it's headed, that's a saacrifice I'd be okay with. I'm done with the "wait until next year's class of studs gets here" stuff.

Some folks no doubt have multiple accounts/screen names and to each his own but I just don't see the point. I say what I think in one account, I don't say stuff that I wouldn't say to someone's face. I follow UK sports and have for a long time. I don't like where we are in the basketball program and I think Cal isn't doing his job and hasn't for the past 3 or 4 years.

I'm not sure what to make of this thread but I'm growing more skeptical because there doesn't seem to be any smoke other than this campfire.

where we are right now with our AD going on Matt Jones of all people to defend a shots fired article written by Tucker, I'd say its likely Cal is gone. They're choosing sides in the media.

Its gotten ugly for the coach, the fans, the AD and its now a distraction to the program.

Its all over but the shouting.

but I am firmly in the camp of Barnhart has to go

Huge difference in recruits following a coach from a mid-major to a BlueBlood, from following a coach from a BlueBlood to an “also-ran”.
These kids don’t care about the schools. I hope reed does though. He’s the most likely to stay. They chose cal. Not Kentucky.

If this thread is accurate Cal can't/won't nor will he have any interest in orchestrating a recovery of this season. Honestly I don't think he has the tools(players) to do it.

we don’t trust you
Why would he leave? He’s the 2nd highest paid coach in America with the HIGHEST buy out. He’s arguably got the best coaching contract in the history of college basketball. You think he’s leaving that to head to a football school that doesn’t pay near that?? You think he’s leaving 50,000,000 on the table??? You people are delusional.

I agree and as sad to say we may not win another road game this year and may get beat at home a few more times.

What? Man you are something else there Mike-McD (yes, I know you have a few accounts).

I later thanked the guy for his input. His answers convinced me he wasn't trolling or one of those guys. I don't care if I'm wrong about Cal's method or timing of departure. You really think you know people here, don't you. Some kind of clairvoyant savant, it seems.

I disagree. I think he has the players.
Just don’t know what to do with them.
Too many promises.
I would like for you to be right but I just don't see it, no true PF, too many 2 guards(we can't play them all at the same time. I wish Cal would put Oscar ,Reeves, CJ, Wallace and Wheeler on the floor and let them play 10 minutes together

So what you're arguing is, Calipari is SUCH a selfish prick that he would literally bottom out the basketball program just to make his money, no matter what it would do the university, the fanbase, the state, and his reputation. He's just a moneygrubbing carpetbagger.

Is that what you're arguing?

Please stop, you know it said within the basketball program itself. By your logic it came from UK Admin, well, the AD is part of UK Admin, right?
My logic? I don’t even know if this issue even exists. The OP can’t say anything. I’ve said several times in this thread that he may leave. I don’t have an inside source, just the OP

They care about attention, about being on TV, about "likes". And KENTUCKY gets a lot more media attention than just about anywhere else (UNC and Duke are there with us, maybe ahead given ESPN's love for them).
When they watch the NBA, they see (or know) that all of these stars (Booker, SGA, Randle, Davis, ...) went to KENTUCKY. Now they also know the coach at KENTUCKY was Calipari, so I'm not saying he gets no association with them, he certainly does. Just like if you say Michael Jordan, the first word people say is "Bulls" and the 2nd is "UNC", they don't say "Dean Smith".

Maybe Cal should have gone to Booker/Ulis in the Wisc game but Booker was in the midst of a major slump and hadn't played well all tournament. If not for a missed shot clock violation, UK more than likely wins that game. If they had won, they would have steamrolled Duke in the finals like they did UCLA earlier in the year. Not sure how that is Cal messing up a team that is hightly touted.
3 shotclocks in the final 4 minutes of a final 4 game w/ multiple timeouts in his pocket. Cal owns that one

I think whenever he leaves (now, a year from now, whenever) it will be a "NEGOTIATED arrangement". Something like:
- Texas pays him $5M/yr 8 yr deal
- UK pays (Cal) for Texas a $10M sign-on bonus
It's a win/win/win. Texas gets who they want at a discount, Calipari still gets $50M and to leave "on good terms" (not be fired), and UK is out "only" $10M

By the way, many have said on here that if he were fired, he would get like $40-43M, spread over the remaining duration of contract. Not $50M.

And I’m sure most of you don’t care

I’m not saying I believe or don’t believe the OP.,I’d like to think he was given the info he shared in good faith.
Like many of you I definitely hope it’s true
But if the OP is trolling…what does it change?
I don’t mind being a little gullible if it gives a little hope for a while
But honestly all we can do is wait and see

Look..you seem like a nice guy you really do. And your posts seem respectful
But you do need to understand about Kentucky Basketball. Our fans are like no other. And while we fight amongst ourselves we tend to get our backs up when someone from “outside” has something to say that could be perceived as…well negative
It’s like being a bunch of siblings.

Can’t describe what basketball means to us. It’s more than a game here
Funny..we feel that way on the Lair about football. Let’s not pretend that this board contains smarter or more quality posters than other sites.

Obviously a deal has been worked out or is in process, and Cal has agreed . Have you not been following this or other threads?

My apologies sir
I should have said University of Kentucky athletics.
Lord knows, we supported our football far more than most
Rucker is a solid poster. He shouldn’t be getting flack on here just because some posters think they’re superior because they follow a basketball program with the best all time winning percentage. That’s no basis for superiority.
