I would say we need a week off to rest and get ready for Missouri. Since we had such a tough month the players could use some rest. Merry Xmas guys who order another year's worth of **** sandwiches?

88-68 final .. Ugly .. very ugly
I seen some good and some bad. The great is Wallace/Livingston are the future, we played offense well quite a bit. If we can combine this offense and UCLA defense we could be okay. If UGO keeps getting minutes and we start playing some half court better.

You are correct , Wallace is damn good , Liv' looked ok again , the question is will Cal play Wallace at the PG and let CJ be in the game with Reeves . How sweet would;d that be ? we might have better spacing ? NO. Hell yes we would have better spacing .

Ended much better than I thought it would, but there is NO DAMNED REASON that should have been down to 7 pt lead. None.

Yes, FAMU won't hit that many 3s the rest of the year, but that defense was strong, then porous, then medium, then just **** before they woke up and decided to to more (or FAMU just got wore out).

You can't do that against real teams. You get a 20+ point lead, you lay it all on the line. Cal needs to stop being Mr. Nice Guy and just lay down the damned wood on these teams.

If he sees Ware as an answer this will be an 11-12 loss team. If Cal wasn't so grossly overpaid I would accuse him a shaving points.

I wonder if tonight was more of a reward for playing well against UCLA. We were always winning this game regardless.

If I see him in the starting lineup vs Missouri next week, I think I'll go insane.

I don’t understand how we flow so well and then look like we haven’t guarded a team before for like 4 minute stretches. Then we can’t score for 5 minutes. It makes no sense. I think the jumbled lineups have cause nobody to know what to do in what lineup.

I'm not sure I can handle more of Ware and Toppin lol

Can I get your assessment of the game? Missed it entirely dealing with some work stuff. I'm looking at the box score, and it seems like mostly positive stuff, but I know box score is only part of the story.

Seems like Cal went with Wallace at the PG more than Wheeler.. so that's a good sign.

EDIT: Seems a lot of roster churning.. which likely means minutes of scattered play.

We've shot it well. We haven't had many turnovers. We got 88 points. I think it's fine for this game.

I'm more concerned about the 68 in this one. My god that's awful.
We looked lost most of the time. We got 88 off good 3 point shooting and a bunch of one on one drives where FAMU broke down.

We couldn't get the ball to Oscar. Against a good team, I don't know if we get to 70.

You're probably right on the lineups. If we just stick to Cal's 7-8 man rotation that he always raves about, maybe we'd have consistency.

I thought we did well offensively. Becoming more and more clear that Ware/Toppin are not guys that should ever sniff the starting lineup and that Wallace >>> Wheeler. CJ finally hit some shots which was nice to see.
Good shooting, low turnovers.........19 offensive boards I believe. Was good

Defensively was an entirely different story. This is one of the worst teams in D1 and to give up 68 to them and a bunch of easy baskets, I just ..........I dunno.

38 point favorite only won by 20. It's meh. But did see some signs offensively tho.

It's unfortunate, because this is what you use the summer and early fall to figure out.. Not late December where we lose games for it. But being the optimist, I guess the take away here is that he's starting to go to the right players? Cason getting this much burn in his 1st game is going to cause some hiccups. But it should be a MUCH more well run offense with him as the guy, as the season goes on.

Just too bad we had to wait this long. Figure out your roster Early, Cal.

Maybe. Would have been the perfect game to get Livingston some time at the 4 though. At least we got an extended look at Wallace at PG.

So some positive signs. Maybe not enough though.

I'll tell you.. in regards to defense.. this team is just so far from being competent, I'd rather they forgo energy on defense, just to start figuring out the offense. If that's truly the trouble with this team.. spacing, shot selection, lineups, reps.. get that figured out first.. we can worry about locking down the other team later.

That’s the story, letting the worst team in D1 punk us on our home court.
At least a 32 minute experiment of defensive futility. Only because the start and ending were decent. Hopefully by design to figure some things out.

Absolutely. Ware should not be getting extended minutes. Look, I love his hustle and everything and he deserves occasional minutes. But, he brings no threat on offense to score at all and if he drives to the basket or takes a jump shot, it's as good as a turnover. We need a guy that can play at least some defense AND is a threat to score on offense in there.

I've been saying this for weeks. I said I would scream if Cal started Toppin and Wheeler and he didn't. But it never occured to me that instead he would start Ware!!!! I have lost all confidence in Cal as a coach. I can't figure out why he is so blind.

He has to just be exhausting any last attempt to play these guys. It's like he's giving them 9 lives because these were the guys he promised or whatever.

That's the only logical explanation. Because he has to see how bad they are. So it's like he's trying to "will" them to play better.

But that's just not how it works. At some point the star freshman are just better than the hold overs.
