Can't stand CCR, Bruce Springsteen, tom petty, the doors,Boston, heart,Steve Miller band and more. Some of my hate comes from local classic rock station that I don't listen to anymore because they play these groups and others every single day! Same goes for GNR. Like AiC, pink floyd, 80's country music, mudvayne,REM,deftones, etc.

Agreed, plus Steve Miller's really turned into a crusty old a-hole as he's gotten older.

Not related at all, but I really really really hate Gloria Estefan and/or Miami Sound Machine. They really really suck.

I'm more of a casual music fan than anything else...

I like Pearl Jam. I have 2-3 of their CDs and I'd like to see them in concerts but it's not as if I love them so much that I'm a fanatic.

Temple of the Dog is by far my favorite grunge era CD.

Musical acts with huge followings I don't get & I dislike: Florida Georgia Line and other bro-country musicians.

Guilty pleasure: I have none. If I like the music, there's nothing to feel guilty about.

to like PJ, it's best you don't pay attention to Eddie's maniacal rants.

Who ho goes to grunge musicians for their world views, anyway?

I don't like PJ because of Eddie's gun control comments because I didn't like them before his comments.

The Eagles aren't one of the top 5 or 10 all-time best American rock bands. Music is subjective and all that, but they were damn talented, highly influential, had a bunch of hits, married different styles of music to keep it interesting over a couple of decades... and sold a ****-ton of records.

I mean, but who's on the list above them? American Rock Bands. Go.

Metallica? like a few songs, but nah.
Aerosmith? Maybe but they're just... meh.
Dave Matthews Band? come on.
Allmans? Definitely yes.
Guns N Roses? love them, but they sure burned out early. Same with Nirvana.
Beach Boys? Probably #1 on the all-time list. The only American band who could rival the British invasion.
Van Halen. Like the music, hate the personalities. Maybe.
Journey? Meh, not enough great songs. ( The little Asian guy can wail though - have you seen him?)
The Doors? Maybe so.
Skynyrd? Yes. They would be on my list.
Motley Crue? Maybe.
Grateful Dead? could be.
The Byrds, Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, REM - arguments could be made... all maybes I'd say.

Back on the original topic, maybe a lot of people would put Pearl Jam on the list.
Personally, I might include Bob Seger and the SBB, but I'm not sure everyone appreciates his stuff like I do.

My buddy would always try to put Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers up near the top, but I consider them more of a one man show with backing band. Either way, i wouldn't put them above the Eagles.

Anyhoo, hijack/late night rambling over. Back to the Pearl Jam/Gun laws/Mississippi sucks threads.*

I agree and think it would be hard to find a more talented band than the Eagles.

My favorite 5 would be:

Led Zeppelin
Eagles
Alice in chains
Stone temple pilots
Skynyrd

Hey! If you don't like my music get your own 17n cab.

Seriously, I think they're overrated, too.

It's hard to make a list of only American bands that everyone agrees on...

I agree and think it would be hard to find a more talented band than the Eagles.

My favorite 5 would be:

Led Zeppelin
Eagles
Alice in chains
Stone temple pilots
Skynyrd

No doubt if we were to include British bands, Zeppelin, the Beatles, and the Stones would all be top 5. Probably the first 3 listed. Me and the rest of the known world I guess.

Rush and Metallica are my top two. You won't find three more talented guys than Rush. Great musicians.

My dad was/is a huge Eagles fan so I grew up listening to them and like them still. Saw them in concert several years ago at FedEx Forum and they didn't disappoint. Joe Walsh steals the show and is still awesome.

Guilty pleasure: gangsta rap from the early 90s

That's not a guilty pleasure. That's just knowing awesome music when you hear it. I also loved late 90's-early 2000's rap. 504 boys, cash money. Women love that ****.

Am I the only one who's not a fan? I don't hate them (like I do Tesla) by an means. I'm simply just not a fan. The same can be said for Dave Matthews Band. What am I missing?

Now, I fully expect to be skewered & lambasted for my "****** taste" in music. But, before you do so just know that my tastes & iTunes are eclectic. From Robert Johnson to Marilyn Manson; John Lee Hooker to Frank Sinatra; The Killers to The Darkness; Show tunes to DMX; George Jones to The Four Tops; Adele to Tom Petty; The Fugees to American Military Hymns; Bocephus to Etta James...

So, dead period and what not, PJ fans tell me what I'm not getting. The rest of you can just list the artist(s) with huge followings you don't "get" either &/or the ones you hate, like Tesla. I'll make this easier.

I don't get the draw of: Pearl Jam
I hate: Tesla
My guilty pleasure is: Shakira's Hips Don't Lie

Go...

Pearl Jam is good, go see them Live. And the DMB sucks.......

Let me see how short I can keep this:

To really "get" Pearl Jam, one would have had to have been in their late teens/early twenties when they emerged. Chances are if you were dialed in, you were growing weary of the "Don't need noooothin' but a gooood time" answer to everything that the Sunset Strip was putting out. Bands and labels were cannibalizing each other and milking the MTV music-seen-is-more-important-than-music-heard gimmick for all that it was worth. Anyone with the slightest bit of underground sensibilities (which truly existed pre-world wide web) was anxiously awaiting the stardom of Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone who were poised to change the landscape (You are welcome, Nirvana). But Andrew Wood became a casualty. And those of us in the know mourned.
For the most part, X-generation kids were full of resentment for being the first generation of latch-key kids and feeling a sense of emotional abandonment. We were looking for something to identify with. So when wild-eyed, clinched-jaw, baritone-voiced (can you be a baritone in a metal world?!) Eddie Vedder came along with the message of "But I'm still alive", it spoke to so many on a completely different level. Throw in the angst-filled Kurt Cobain and the dark-droning Alice In Chains with so many others.... Nineties music success was no accident. It served a purpose.
When someone says: "Man. I just don't like Pearl Jam", I get it. I think if I had lived through any other time, I wouldn't either. But aside from the albums they've released over the last decade, they are a magical band. Let me ask you this: Have you ever seen them live? My guess is no. Because I think if you ever had, your opinion would be different. WAY different.

The Chili Peppers are a strange band for me. Some of their stuff, I absolutely love. The rest of it I hate with a passion.

Dave Matthews is like the Amway of bands. They were always wanting to convert you. I swear I had one friend back in college who would come over under the guise of playing video games, only to say that we needed to watch some "bootleg" dvd of one of his concerts. After an hour I would remember I had homework to do.

To me they are their own genre. I love a lot of their stuff. But, could do without the rest. Hate is a strong word for music tastes; subjectivity & all.

No, I have never seen them LIVE. If I couldn't get into them through albums/radio play I wasn't going to invest my time or money in doing so. My avatar may be The Possum, but I'm of the generation you speak...I think. But probably a little younger. Some called me Al Borland in middle school when I wore a flannel shirt as it was intended & not tied around my waist.

I've also never seen Slip Knot LIVE...or Creed, Limp Bizkit, Sugar Ray, Man O' War, or that crazy *** Finnish band, Lordi. So, that argument doesn't hold water to me.

Pearl Jam has always been creative and talented as musicians and recording artists. What I hate about them is their leftwing political agenda they push on to their fans. They act like everyone is aligned with their worldview. I find that to be incredibly dimwitted, and it's a huge turnoff.

Dave Matthews ' music sucks. Chicks liked them when I was in school 20 years ago.

Not going to try to explain to why they are good. It's all a matter of musical taste

Since when are The Who an individual? I agree, smack your head.

The who? *smh*

I was just pointing out the kind of strange phenomenon of the Brits having probably the biggest rock bands in history, while the US has many more individual artists that sell a bunch of records.

The Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zep
The Who
Police
U2 (i know, but it's British Isles)
etc

I like Pearl Jam. Love their lead guitar player's sound. Nothing better than his Strat going through his set up.

McCready is a truly talented guitarist. Look up a live version of Pearl Jam's Nothing As It Seems and you'll see what I'm talking about.
