I can use my own story as a guide for Lance:
As a middle schooler, playing my first ever organized game in front of spectaters, I went 0-10 from the free throw line. Embarassed me so bad that I vowed it would never happen again. Started the practice of every time I picked up a basketball for any type of pick-up game or whatever, I'd shoot 50 ft's before starting. Would shoot sets of 100 ft's at a time when there was no-one around to play against. Improved enough that by the time I was a sophomore I hit 77 straight ft's in an early practice. Probably @ 95% by the time I graduated.
