I think a lot of good has been done, but we really go too far. Every coach we’ve ever had has gone the extra mile for Kentucky. That includes Tubby Smith, but for some reason (not gonna insinuate too much here), Calipari’s gestures become widely known. Which honestly I don’t care as long as it gets done. But Joe Hall made it his life’s work to help Kentuckians, he just didn’t talk about it. I think you know what I mean without me having to actually go down that road rev.

Calipari is a marketing guy who looks at all situations for an opportunity to promote the program, build his/our brand, and send his message. The vast majority of coaches (current and past) just manage their program and players. They may have staff doing their PR but most don't think as strategically as Cal.

Not belittling Cal's intent. I am sure it is sincere and from the heart. But he loves making sure everyone knows his great intent and sincerity.

Anyone who says this is a premeditated PR move knows nothing about coal miners (or good fathers for that matter). These guys exist all over eastern and western Ky.
I didn’t say the guy wasn’t a coal miner. If you think this wasn’t a PR move, you are absolutely clueless. It’s not a bad thing for an organization to invest in public relations. In fact it’s important for Kentucky basketball to reach their fans and the public like this. Kentucky is the gold standard after all. I think you took that as me being negative or calling it fake. Public relations can be genuine, and I think this was. It also called more attention to the event and why the event was taking place where it was, and that’s a good thing. Think how sad that is that Kentucky basketball is more invested in Kentucky citizens than our state politicians who are mostly just there to exploit disadvantaged people.

There’s a big difference between capitalizing on a genuine moment and using it for PR and it being “staged for PR.” This was not staged. Now, someone saw the photo and thought “we can put this out there, what a cool PR move that would be…”. I can buy that. But that’s much different than your first suggestion, which is that this was staged for PR.

Coal miners don’t do stuff for PR. I bet you anything the last thing that coal miner thought was “man I’m going to get so much good attention from this.” This guy was just being a regular dad and an eastern Kentucky coal miner, and somebody caught it on camera. That’s it. You don’t know coal miners.

The family is not staged. That’s not at all how guys like that roll, hell they don’t have the time for it lol.

Calipari using situations and wanting his job to be seen as about “more” than his win loss column? Oh yea, that’s real. And I never take that bait. His job this year it to perform to Kentucky expectations. If he misses the final four again with a team like this it’s time once again to consider how long we hold on to him and start having real conversations about the future of the program.

Exactly. Do I doubt Cal saw this and thought this would be a great PR move to highlight it? Sure.

But that coal miner didn’t have one damn thought about the attention he was going to get. Those dudes can’t be bothered with that nonsense. He just worked his *** off and wanted to watch the Cats with his boy.

I see your only argument is to put words in my mouth, so there’s really no point in going back and forth. This wasn’t about PR for the coal miner, you know that, I know that, and you know that I know that. So you are only saying it because you have to misrepresent my argument to prop up yours. You suck at this.

You said this was a premeditated PR move which suggested to me that it was, you know, premeditated. As in the coal miner was in on this. If that’s not what you meant you should have worded it better. If all you’re saying is UK put this out for PR, then sure. I agree.

It’s pretty clear he was “in on it”. Not sure why you word it like that, like it was some nefarious scheme to trick you into caring about coal miners. The family just so happens to be sitting in seats where no one is obstructing their view, great seats, no one to get in the way of the photo op. And let’s not act like the family isn’t benefiting from it. They get a free trip to Lexington to watch a game, food and lodging all taken care of. Not a bad deal. This isn’t a bad thing dude, it was a successfully executed PR campaign. Better believe Duke is taking notes.

Alright man, knock yourself out. I can tell you didn’t grow up in coal country. Is what it is.

It was in msnbc this morning. Full story-interview with wife and video of them with young son at the game.

It’s debate season. This is when that side pretends they care about poor families, “dirty” energy jobs, and projects “party of the people”.

They’ll be back to trying to take his job, making fun of non college educated people, and destroying our institutions (using elite law enforcement agencies too) soon enough.

over / under Calipari shows up to Rupp arena first game with coal dust all over his face?

“after mass this morning I stopped by a coal tunnel to see friends. I didn’t have time to shower as I was giving them free meals. Had to drive straight to the game”

I wonder if he washed the coal miners feet while he was there? Some nasty stuff in those boots, lol

Nope I didn’t, and I’m glad I didn’t. But my upbringing isn’t relevant whatsoever to the topic we are discussing either. Again, you weakly deflect from the argument, because you cannot refute anything I’m saying. Plus the family is yucking up all the attention, making their rounds on television and all that. And I’m not criticizing them for it, just making the point that they aren’t exactly exhibiting the qualities that you assigned to them, qualities which were based on stereotypes might I add.

I think it's all staged by Kelly Craft. The guy is a prop. I'm sure now he'll pop up in some Craft ads next year about how much he loves digging for coal and getting black lung. There's no reason why he couldn't have cleaned up before he went there. He could've at least washed his face, if nothing else. This was 100% staged.

I love a good conspiracy theory because I also love laughing at conspiracy theorists. They go hand in hand.
