If I'm not mistaken, Syracuse was also in the conversation that year.Feels like 2012, UK and UNC are the best and whoever stays healthy will be an extremely tough out.
I’m so interested to see if UNC is the team that we saw all regular season or the hot team at the end of the year. Garcia being replaced and Love getting 100% better totally changed them but Manek is gone and can Love do that again?Zags don’t scare me. We are athletic. And we’ve seen what athletic teams do to them.
UNC worries me a bit.
I think Cal can be a good floor coach or maybe it was mostly Robic because early on and most of his tenure we have came to play in the tournament and had some great game plans and execution in games. Yeah stall ball cost us and Free throws have doomed us as well though. I will say since Robic has been gone that our game prep has been off toward the end of the year and of course the 9-16 season was just horrible but looking back that roster was terrible. You can’t win with Askew as your main guard. My biggest is will always be our team preparation, sense of urgency, and seriousness. Calipari is always his teams biggest issue when you’re talking about closing out. He’s not a good floor coach and to win a title the team that usually does is the one that makes the least amount of mistakes. We don’t prepare well, it’s an unorthodox system, and I just don’t think it’s the best recipe to cut the final net down. Before I worry about anyone else, I worry about this. It’s not a bash post I’m just calling it how I see it.
Calipari would vote for Bill Mauer over Ronald Reagan, tell you it’ll be fine, and head to practice with that same mindset. Not a political post just making the point that he shoots from the hip and is too care free. Then he doesn’t question any decision and learns nothing. He’s a powerful coach in this game but when we’re talking about winning the LAST GAME, it’s going to be tough with a guy like this as we’ve already seen.
Now that we seen our team and dream of #9, who has a team that can derail our quest for a title. UNC maybe Gonzaga or is the landscape set for a team like ours to dominate like 2015. Anyone got a decent idea of who's standing in our way.

In retrospect with KU taking the all-time wins lead, of course going 13-12 would’ve been a big help…but if I said 13-12 is okay to my mom and dad for UK basketball, they would have washed my mouth out with soap and got the belt out!Yeah that roster was terrible in performance but looked solid on paper. Askew is just not a good basketball player. Or if he is he hasn’t shown it. One of Cal’s strengths is building a decent roster. But he whiffed that year. Happens. He still should have done better than 9 wins though. Even 13-12 would’ve been “ok”. Every great team and coach has a a season they wish they could just forget. That one is Cal’s.

Yeah but compared to that hot garbage it would’ve been better. It’s inexcusable but even above .500 given all the other crap going on would’ve at least been understandable. Good roster doesn’t turn out to be so. No fans, constant Covid testing, yadda yadda yadda. Nobody but Baylor looked really good. Just a wacky year. But to only get 9 wins outta those highly ranked (over ranked tbf) guys was Cal’s worst job ever.In retrospect with KU taking the all-time wins lead of course going 13-12 would’ve been a big help but if I said 13-12 is okay to my mom and dad for UK basketball they would have washed my mouth out with soap and got the belt out!
Biggest impediment for UK to a ncaaT title is begok.

Oscar is on day two of recovery. He has to be on crutches for three days. And as anyone who has had surgery can tell you day three post op is the worst. He’s going to be good for the season opener.Keeping this group healthy is the biggest concern I have. Honestly I wasn't overwhelmed with what I saw last night. Reeves, Wallace and Livingston looked
very good the rest remain to be seen. Oscar limping around didn't do much for my confidence either. This will be a fun team to watch but I'm not ready to crown them just yet.. They say the right things but can/will they do the right things. Let
them get pushed around and see if they push back
So you picked the concensus preseason top 4 to the final four. Great insight.Houston UK title game could easily happen.
FF could be Us, Houston, Zags (cause they will get a cake walk), and UNC. Easily.
Not a bash? You are always bashing Cal. Go back to the Louisville board. My biggest is will always be our team preparation, sense of urgency, and seriousness. We’ve seen what Theiro is capable of. As well as Toppin. We’re in great shape. I’m not crowning is either but we’ve got depth unlike last year. When Grady went flat we didn’t have another solid shooter. If R33v3s is off, we got CJ. If they’re both off Livingston and Toppin can hit a few to get us going.
I like this team.

Without Cal we wouldn't have that roster or have you for that.Cal is playing against himself. I think we have by far the best roster in college. Cal’s just gotta figure out how to get out of his own way.
Yeah we lost about 8 games it seemed by 5 points or so. At least it seemed like it I’ve tried to purge that season from my mind.Yeah that roster was terrible in performance but looked solid on paper. As I don’t have time to research the roster of 64 plus basketball squads that could make the tourney…..yeah. Sorry I’ll offer you a refund. So you picked the concensus preseason top 4 to the final four. Great insight.
Collins I’m not quite sure of yet either. But Toppin was kicking St Pete’s ***. And then Cal mystery sits him for the entirety of the second. Must be something in UK coach’s blood to stop doing what is working. He and Stoops both do it.I like the team as well, I just want to wait and see how they react to real competition
Oscar will do what Oscar does and no one is likely to change that much but who will be the next guy to take the reins and do what needs doing
I hope Fredrick has a good year and gets to enjoy being here, he deserves it. I'm not sold on Toppin or Collins yet. Great athletes without a doubt but do they have the skills to carry a team when the chips are down.
I look forward to the start of each new season but try to temper my expectation so as to be pleasantly surprised rather than somewhat disappointed
