Isn’t just a great recruiter. He’s a helluva DC. You just don’t know. Georgia and Ohio State did the same and are rolling.
You know both of those are much different scenarios and the list of didn't work out is MUCH longer.

Anyway, he's 0-3 with an mid-major L, so I hope it works out for him. Their schedule is trash so he should get that elusive 1st win soon.

My buddy had his kid's 3rd birthday on saturday morning at a chic fi a... was dope. Adjacent playland, kids got some little hasbrowns and a little stuffed cow, coffee and chicken biscuits for the grown folks... and the kicker is there is no mess in your living room after.

There was a minor hiccup- I heard a dad ask "James do you need to use the bathroom"- and James responded "not anymore" as he had already pissed himself going down the slide. Sometimes you are just having too much fun to take a break- and I think we've all been there.

-Gawd Damn, I'm still hungover from Saturday night. F YOU Florida. Tennessee, you're next bitches. Baseball Tournament to Dove Shoot, to Local bar for the game, to celebrating there until close to 3AM.

-My youngest pitched for his first time ever this weekend at the Fall State tournament. 3 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, no runs. Proud of that little SOB.

-Stoops to Nebraska Aint gonna happen. Nope.

- Hitting up the 311 show at Manchester music hall tomorrow night. I have some extra tickets if anyone wants to relive the late 90s early 2000s with us. Holler at your boy.

a) How are they much different? All three are elite level programs (ND behind the other two of course) handing the reigns to an unproven hotshot coordinator.

b) This 0-3 narrative annoys me a bit. The first two losses don’t matter- bowl game against a Top 10 opponent after Kelly dipped, and respectable road loss to Ohio State. The only thing that matters here is the humiliation of the Marshall loss.

Anyway, I thought at the time they should have waited and thrown the bank at Fickel. You just don’t know with coordinators. Or as Nebraska just showed, you don’t really know period.

- Kiffin would be really good at Nebraska. Can get the type of players they used to get, either from HS or the portal, and not feel an ounce of remorse for doing so.

- Freeman will get 3-4 years at ND. Nothing against him but I hope they are a below .500 team in that stretch.

If you don't have an accurate QB you aren't beating this Kentucky team. We need to tighten up that soft zone a bit when we get to Ole Miss, Miss State (who looks really damn good btw) and UT. But ya, I think it was the second Florida drive and Richardson was missing throws by huge margins and was only a matter of time before we started taking advantage. Clean up the special teams ******** and we win that by two tds.

Square and Jones will likely never play a down in the NFL but man those dudes are always in the right spot, tackle well and are just really really good college football players. They are also about as experience of CFB players as you get. Both them, Keidron Smith and Jordan Wright have played a ton of SEC football. Square has played 50+ games and Smith, Jones, and Wright are all in the mid 40s with a majority of those being starts. Hell, even ol six finger has played a lot of games. You add that type of experience in with the our line talent and you better have the athleticism (ala UGA or Bama) to beat our defense.

The OL just needs time to develop... feels like we went through this a few years back where we were a mess early only to get **** right when it mattered. Either way, they were getting beat but there were multiple occasions that we were just lost on the assignment. That first quarter on a couple runs we had guys just standing there looking for someone to block while Will was running for his life. And McElroy was right on the Levis interception... they had Wright coming across Levis to try and block their best edge rusher, who came in unimpeded. So either that was a dumbass playcall, Wright was lined up wrong or the tackle missed the assignment. Looked good at the end where we much more fresh and tackles were closing off those sweeps with ease.

That Levis bomb was something. 60 yard, beautifully thrown ball to our true frosh receiver who out jumped/physicaled a UF DB. Yup that happens all the time with UK football.

I have a love hate with that soft zone. That's Stoops' thing though and his record speaks for itself so it's hard for me to question it. I hated it last year when we'd play off the receivers to negate the speed disadvantage and keep our legs fresh since we literally had 3 corners. I wanted to let our corners learn on the job but it worked out.

This year now that we have quality corners and some depth behind them, playing soft seems to be more of a baiting scheme. It gets the QB over confident and we gradually tighten up as the game progresses the begin the shutdown. That is more of what Stoops has done in the past when he was a secondary coach or DC.

What is the worse college sports rule: targeting or block/charge?
Block/Charge. It actually makes things significantly more dangerous and destroys the flow. At least the intent behind targeting is legit. Using your body as a missile isn't good for the sport.

Day had 17 years coaching experience. Smart had 18 years coaching, 8 of them with Nick F*cking Saban as his mentor. That's how they're different. Freeman barely had 7 years before taking on one of the toughest jobs in CFB.

I have no problem hiring coordinators but if you're doing it to save recruiting then you're f*cked. I'm a fan of hiring the best candidate and Luke Fickell is right down the road.

Plus he lied to America about being vaccinated, so he’s a terrible teammate. And a murderer, basically.
That's actually one of my favorite things he's done. He went from being Douchebag Millennial Journalist's Jesus to unvaxxed a-hole in a matter of minutes. It was fascinating to watch the journalists have to pick a side on that one.

Good points but my larger one still remains. Saban assistants have been dudes before. Lincoln Riley wasn’t much more experienced than Freeman.

Completely agree on Fickel. Guessing they didn’t have the sack to wait.

Didn’t mention in my UK-FL trip randoms earlier but at 6:55am on Sunday morning, we get a call from wife’s mom that our 1 year old is limp and EMT’s are at the house and are needing approval for an ambulance ride. Scared what bit of a hangover I had right out of me. Got in the car and drove the 3 hour trip south back home.

Won’t get into the details but she had to spend the night in the hospital. Out today and everything is back to normal but scared the crap out of us. Was our first “oh sh*t” moment as a parent where we were completely helpless. Awful feeling.
