Honestly,I think it happens way more than anybody really thought.

No doubt. And.... People can talk about the Wisconsin loss and the platooning all they want, but it had almost nothing to do with UK's decline in caliber of 5-star they were getting. It's a bs narrative against Coach. Has he been perfect? No, but the crazy *** rampant cheating that was going on cost us players like Bagley, Williamson, and Wiseman among others.

These players were bought and paid for to not come to Kentucky. Coach Cal to his credit was still able to get some pretty damn big recruits(remember Monk, Fox, and Bam and what happened in the tournament), but he was getting damn near all of them until Adidas and Nike stepped in for some of the other elite programs.

Penny continues his reign of destruction. It was just announced that the high school he coached was stripped of their state championship and fined 15k for recruiting violations of James Wiseman. LOL.

If James Wiseman just came to UK. Memphis probably could have a chance at another real coach, Memphis wouldn’t have faced any problems, and this HS wouldn’t be stripped of anything. That’s just so far. Moral of the story kids, go to the place you want to and a program not built by scallywags and improper recruiting.

Tubby also got caught in the middle of it and lost his job so they could bring the con artist in.

Penny would make a good coach at UL. He would fit right in there with all the cheating .
They should make him an offer he can’t refuse after Memphis cans him. I don’t know if Payne will be given the time needed to get them out of this mess, or if he will even want to depending on how bad they actually are. This could be a 10-12 win team this year if the ACC is remotely close to its usual strength. It’s been down the past couple years, even though they got hot at the right time only Duke and UNC have been good. Even Duke struggled like us in 2020.

I never bought the platoon nonsense. Sorry but each person on that team had plenty of shine and during NIL a team like that would have made a killing. It was the staff getting weaker, declining scouting, Duke going all in on One and Done to have an actual competitor, and most importantly flat out cheating and paying players.

at what point does somebody look into firing him or at least some kinda suspension?
lol. It took. An FBI wiretap, strong *** outside pressure, AND like EIGHT level 1 violations for LSU to go “Oh, maaaaaybe we should fire Wade”.

Ol Pocket Lint will have to murder someone, on camera, in the middle of Beale, in broad daylight, with three dozen witness, with DNA evidence, gun shot residue, and leaving his wallet at the scene to be fired from Memphis.

He would definitely fit in nicely at UofL, but I doubt Memphis will ever fire Penny. He seriously has a blank check there and could do anything he wants. They'd prefer he not get caught, of course, but it really doesn't matter. They've sunk right back to where they were before Calipari came in to rescue them back in the late 90s. Penny should be able to recruit down there but his main trouble is that you've got to be able to do something with the players once you pay them to come to campus. Penny was a good player but he can't coach himself out of a wet paper bag.

That I agree with but if he keeps underachieving there they will eventually can him. They have a severe problem acknowledging where their basketball program is in reality and where they think it is nationally. Like UofL they think they are elite.

Unfortunately Tubby had long before quit actually trying to build a competitive program. He still didn’t deserve to have that happen from a personal standpoint but Understand why they wanted him gone. Just unfortunate it wasn’t for a good coach.

I guess I don't care. Penny couldn't do anything with him. And as it turns out, I doubt Wiseman would've finished the season for us anyway.

Or…… maybe it’s WWW taking an interest in the nba and not “influencing “ kids on their college decisions. I mean , I’m pretty sure other teams were willing to pay players before the Wisconsin loss . We’ll probably never really know. But this NIL thing seems to have turned the tide in our favor once again.

Look, you’re not wrong. Cal was playing against a stacked deck to a degree.

But at a certain point, you gotta adjust. He didn’t HAVE to continue to try to build his teams around stud freshman. After the 2nd or 3rd season of the top players shunning him because other programs were flat out paying them he should have said “you know what fine, i’ll start going for guys that will stick around”.

He kept wasting time on the Mo Bambas, Zion Williamsons, RJ Barretts, and James Wisemans of the high school basketball world.

We’re still doing it too. I and a lot of other casual observers could have told you were Derek Lively was going at least 6 months out before he announced. There were a few of us on HoB saying it. “why are we wasting time? this kid is going to duke”.

Cal is smart. He’s probably the best recruiter the game has ever seen. But it amazes me how often he still gets suckered by some of these kids and their handlers. Honestly i think he’s just too nice at times. He needs to tell more of them to **** or get off the pot when they have an offer and they wanna drag it out till november of their senior year when they were offered 2 years prior.

Penny showed those kids it’s okay to cheat and I’m sure it changed their lives. They work with them to say “Would you like that Supersized “ or hanging out on Beale asking people “I bet you $5 where you got your shoes “

Yep. I'm all for taking your time with a big decision and 'getting yours'. But if you need to get greedy and split hairs, or just string people along for your own personal attention, I don't think I want ya. These kids are looking at a tremendous amount more money in just a few months no matter where they go. If I'm Cal, I say, "Here is my record of getting guys what you're wanting. This is what Kentucky offers." and then let them know the clock just started. Three months or so. I want guys what want to be here. And if, by now, you don't see what Kentucky and Cal can do for you, I have to question your overall character and intelligence.

And Duke and the ZION house deal. No wonder they got several that they were "sketchy" on. Penny just got caught and Memphis doesn't have the "clout" ole ratface did with the NCAA, Level for now, we will see if Payne can last at UL before he starts providing extra benefits. We know Penny's dirty, hope we don't have to find out about several others.
