They’ve already done enough for tornado and flood relief. Snide remarks like that need to stop. AD literally just gave 350k. And these guys help out other communities where they are from and currently reside. I swear some of you think it’s all bling and weed for them.
So you’re saying AD is all tapped out (bless his heart).

A roof leak is just normal stuff with physical property. It happens over time. I wouldn’t say it’s indicative of needing to be “upgraded.” That said, I agree there is plenty of money there to do some upgrades. Most possible donors are much more likely to open up the wallet when you are rolling and having success.

Not buying a word about facilities. Our facilities are top notch, not sure about the roof or what’s going on there. I’ve been all over the south to other campuses, I work in an academic capacity at a university in Tennessee. I’ve been to practice facilities at UT, Florida, and Arkansas. I’ve also seen some others over time but it’s been a while. There’s no way UK’s facilities are a problem like he’s suggesting.

We’re not the “gold standard” right now because he doesn’t win. Not because of a roof. And our facilities have nothing to do with his inability to recruit players he’s been missing. Didn’t we just rack up the top class?

I have no problem with having the top facilities in the country. I have no problem with a coach wanting upgrades. But I fully support Barnhart telling him no, because Calipari hasn’t won enough to make demands the way he did before that contract. He needed to hear no.

And I fully believe Barnhart said no for a specific reason.

And that is fine, but if Cal leaves in 1-2 years I better not see you supporting new upgrades for the new coach that has won nothing.

This.

One other thing to mention....anyone who has been around construction lately will know that the difficult part will be finding a contractor that can and will do the work.

Of course I would. He’ll need all of the tools necessary to compete. Calipari is a different story but if they want to upgrade at any time that’s fine with me. I just think Calipari needed push back right now and he got it. He needed to hear no because our issues of late don’t have anything to do with a practice facility and his “were the gold standard except for facility” crap wasn’t gonna fly.

"So you're saying" is always followed something the person wasn't saying then an argument against made up statement. Gotta love strawmen.
Nope. I suggested that some of our former players could help out. Then bbncal02 starts going off on a tangent about charity and weed and bling. But somehow I'm the bad guy for suggesting that these guys that benefited from the program give back or help out some.

Would it have been better if I said that Joe Craft could pay for it? GoFundMe Site? Special tax assessment on KY residents?

I would guess that UK has building maintenance and repair funds in their budget.

Some of y'all need to lighten up.

Oh ok, so we should not give the current coach all the tools to compete, but some random future unnamed guy should get them. I appreciate you owning up to that.

Calipari has had all of the resources he needs to compete including an insane contract. He’s the one who went lax and decided he didn’t care about winning anymore. That’s his words not mine, “now we can move on to other things”.

He needed to hear no. The facility is not the problem as it pertains to Calipari. If he wants to hear yes to anything else he needs to produce.

A new coach needs to be given what he wants to compete and I’m all for having the best facilities anyway. I’m all for Calipari having them too. But right now he needs to produce before we give him anything else. He needs to hear the word no because he’s too full of himself. The second he pinned “were not the gold standard” because of a facility and not because of his complacency I wanted Barnhart to say no sir. You’re conflating things that have different answers for different reasons.

UK athletics makes plenty of money. Maybe put it on them since it's their facility instead if volunteering others.

And you need to hush on critiquing our former players that have done PLENTY for the Commonwealth.

You’re not the bad guy for saying our guys should help. You’re the jackass for assuming (and wrongly I might add) that they haven’t.

Fixing a leaky roof IS NOT "remodeling or improvement". It is "maintenance". Repair-wise that means DO IT NOW.

I'm not a roofer but I've worked with some. I can understand how "finding the leak" in a large flat roof can be tricky and "disproportionately expensive" relative to other building repairs. It is the Civic Center/Rupp Arena's problem but regardless...GET IT DONE NOW.

Peace

You assumed that I thought these guys are all about weed and bling. You assumed that I was making a critique of former players. In both cases you were wrong.

UK Sports Net Profit/Loss

In terms of financials, UK collected $143,481,480 in revenue and paid out $143,316,447 in expenses. So, the good news is that athletics program made a profit of $165,033, and that’s much nicer than losing money (which some schools do). link

Only UK fans could take something as simple as a roof leak and turn it into 2 pages of discussions.

It’s been a trend for over a decade. It’s all corruption. These criminals will use their friends or family’s construction companies to do all the work, go over budget intentionally, and everyone gets rich while your property taxes goes up $500 per year for the next 25 years!

The town I’m talking about already had property taxes of $4200 per $100,000, BEFORE the 25 year “school levy” mysteriously passed. We said “See ya!”
It’s amazing when you “own” land but yet have to pay increasing taxes on it until the day you die and if you don’t they will take it from you. Nobody owns crap because the Goverment can claim Eminent Domain and claim whatever they wanted just pay you a realitive fee for what it’s supposedly worth.

Every roof will eventually leak, unless you change it too soon.

A new roof is over 13 months out for any commercial building. There is not enough material. Try budgeting a 1.5 million roof project that won't take place for over a year.

A roof is not a permanent part of any structure.
