Duke Makes Massive Scheduling Change

K’s legacy is marred by his reluctance to play home and homes.
Scheyer is showing confidence and unfortunately is not only keeping Duke in the elite status but building his own brand. He can sell to prospects that they will be on t.v., play big games and not just in the ACC, and also be another major program's super bowl too. The hope always was that K would retire and Cal would now be the main man. Didn't happen.
And it will continue as long as Calipari is bullheaded about changing his style of play.

I hate true road games. They don’t benefit the program at all and we rarely get the kind of whistle in the return game that we have to deal with in the road game.

Giving duke a chance to come in and hang an L on us in rupp because we can’t buy a call at home these days isn’t worth watching us get screwed in durham.

I have a lot of criticisms of Cal but getting rid of the majority of the home and homes in favor of neutral court games isn’t one of them. That’s one thing he did that was actually best for the program
I have to hard disagree.

Carruth doing dog barking and DX crotch chops at the bench got him fired up.

That was also the game where K pulled a Joe Hall and benched his starters midway through the first half when we were threatening to pull away. I remember a bunch of goofy looking dudes like Chris Burgess and Casey Sanders came in and actually closed the gap a little. Even though the game eventually went to OT, I knew at that moment we would lose.

Am I losing my mind, or has the 22-23 season for Scheyer already ended and he won it all in his first year at Puke?

There is literally no evidence to support saying that Scheyer is suddenly "the man". Let's cross this bridge around end of December or mid-ACC conference schedule. My prediction? They'll have 8-10 losses by end of January and people will be laughing at Scheyer.
Dook is going to be a mid-major soon. Their football program is bad and they are a private school with few fans in the state compared to UNC and NC State. Basketball prowess won’t make up for their football program.

How does winning on the road against a Kansas, Duke, or UNC not "benefit the program at all"?

Shoot.. I think true road games are awesome and they can tell a coach a lot about his guys. Who gonna wilt under pressure and who is gonna step up when everyone in the arena is basically against you.. and hopefully it is a wild, hostile crowd to play against! ****, that is the fun of college basketball or it used to be anyways. A team may get punched in the mouth in a true road game but it’s a regular season game so not like the end of the season if a team loses by 2-3 points or maybe just maybe they pull a Kansas and win by more than a few baskets lol.

Everyone got to see how good this team could’ve been last yr in that game and if we didnt play that game then we never know that we’re capable of kicking Kansas *** by 30+. Besides, if ya wanna true home game with a real *** opponent then ya gotta go play somewhere to get that game in return.

I don’t understand why coaches and everyone acts so scared to go play a damn basketball game on some other schools home floor when they got the baskets up and the floor down and the 🍿 ready.

All they gotta do is get on a plane and go play ball and Bilas can settle for a Blizzard or something 😂. I think a true road game has alot teams and coaches can benefit from. I have to disagree with that.

Winning them benefits the program. But there’s not much if any difference between beating Kansas at Phog Allen and beating them on a neutral court in terms of impact on our seed. And it’s much more difficult to win those games on another teams home court and frankly we don’t get the kind of home cooking on the return trips that those teams get against us.

And yeah i know we beat Kansas this year but that was an outlier. What’s our record against UNC and Kansas combined at their places? I think the last time we beat unc at their place was when matt doherty was coach 20 years ago. I think we lost the next 5 or 6. And that was the first time we’ve won at Kansas since…hell i can’t even remember. Maybe during the Pitino era? And that was in 3 or 4 attempts.

And i think we only won one true road game against a tournament team this year. Out of 5 chances. Got screwed at auburn. Got screwed at LSU. Got doug shows’d at arkansas.

Plus playing those games in recruiting hot beds like indianapolis, new york, las vegas, LA, atlanta and chicago gives more recruits a chance to see the basketball team up close. They can catch a big game without having to take a visit to campus.

So yeah…i say **** home and homes.

Wow, I never said he was going to be a great coach or have a winning season. But, clearly his recruiting has been phenomenal and he has beaten us on several of the most elite recruits (and as some of you said without ever having a game played). His moving the needle in the home and away game is another smart move. Having said what I did; I hope he and Penny go down in flames for their respective programs.

You do know that Coach K helped bring those kids in....right? Like, they committed when K was still the head coach and was still in their living rooms helping get them to commit to Duke.

Let's give it a year or two before making statements like that haha

Dodging home and homes basically because of the refs is really weak. Saying we get screwed when we visit teams like that and dont get a benefit when they come play at Rupp is just inaccurate. I looked at the stats (which dont always tell the whole story when it comes to officiating) of the last time we hosted Kansas, and we shot 23 FT's to their 11. They were called for 21 fouls to our 13. Kansas. The Refs arent out to get us and I as a fan would like to see us play in big time games against hostile crowds. It only helps the team as well.

With cal the good old nuetral court in Las Vegas or Chicago where half the arena is empty is our scheduling. We still play good teams but still my wish is cal would get over himself and play in one of these early season tournaments like Maui or the battle for Atlantis or the PK80
That really really gnaws at me too.

Hard disagree. Attendance at Rupp would be better in the non conference with a better slate of opponents.

Now that i do agree with. attendance would definitely be better. But the truth is our home schedule has almost always consisted of Louisville every other year and one other big name and then a bunch of cupcakes. The home and homes Cal took off the schedule just got replaced with the big12/sec challenge. Or well…one of them. It had been iu and unc for a while.

But the last two times we played at unc they shot over 80 free throws combined. Which is why i’m okay with never going back. UNC doesn’t know how to win a legit competition.

This sadly. When is the last time Calipari scheduled a home and home?
We were supposed to have Michigan at Rupp this year as part of the 3 game series, 2 of those home and home. That’s slated for 23 and 24 now. We just completed a home and home with ND (2nd round NCAA team this year, but doesn’t move the needle much). Our last one with UNC was the 14 and 15 seasons. We did a home and home with UCLA in the 16 and 17 seasons.

We definitely need more.

One of the things that hurts us (more in football) is that our biggest rival is OOC. So, we play a home and home with UL every year. But we should 100% have a second home and home with an upper tier program that is home when UL is away.

I'd like to see how the NCAA and the officials treat Duke now that K is gone, before we schedule a game that was formerly an unwinnable matchup at Cameron.
Dumb question, but doesn’t UNC’s win at Duke, in Krzyzewski’s last home game at Duke, kinda shatter this notion?

The problem is, it was done by one of the 2 other protected schools, UNC (Kansas being the 3rd).

I'm not saying you CAN'T win at Duke. And I'm sure our teams have enough talent to win on any given night. But I do believe you start in a hole when you play at Cameron.

Duke barely even has a starting backcourt at the moment for their current team.

Cal is putting together a class in 2023 that will blow Duke's current #1 class out of the water. I'm not worried in the slightest.
Call Cal an underachiever if he can't recruit better than a K lackey/steward/servant.

Impressed AZ got that done. I’m jealous. Dook-UNC have made a combined one trip to AFH ever (Dook 1988). For all the talk that UNC is some type of sister school to Kansas that’s weak, given they’ve never even played on our campus

Would be nice for the 4 of us (UK, KU, UNC and Duke) to play home and homes more.

Duke and UNC not having come to AFH, UK not going to Cameron, Duke not coming to Rupp, etc....those are the games college basketball needs.

How about a preseason tournament like a final four, or it could really be fun, and a big money maker if it was a double elimination lasting three weekends. ;)

Lot to say about them but odd comment here. Their backcourt of Roach, Proctor/Grandison, and Whitehead will be one of the better one's in the country. Experience + high-end youthful talent

Whitehead is a front court player, he plays the SF position.

Grandison was a bench player from a mediocre big-10 team.

Roach has massive holes and isn't nearly as good as Wheeler (who everyone here complains about)

Proctor is a reclass who was a last ditch thing for them because they missed on so many other guards.

Duke does not have one of the best backcourts in the country, I don't know how anyone could argue that.

Getting those two do do anything is like pulling teeth. I’m honestly surprised Dook ever agreed to the champions classic

UNC ducked it, so we got stuck with Sparty

UNC was never invited to be apart of it, since them and Duke would never be able to play each other in it. It always had to be 4 teams from 4 different conferences. Kentucky wanted to box out Indiana, UCLA wasn't quite good enough, etc. So Sparty got the nod.

Maybe. But, I’m pretty sure Duke (or UNC or Kansas) is going to start in a hole at Rupp. The place fits a lot of fans, which are guaranteed to be loud AF and in it till the end.

Also. I’m not sure Kentucky does itself any favors with the whole “Refs” thing. Like… it’s a premier program. Just own it that things don’t always go your way. No one is winning every game. I’ve never understood this.

Literally every pre-season analysis and recruiting service disagrees with you. You are on an island all by yourself, buddy.

Grandison had the 5th highest percentage of minutes on Illinois and the 101st Offensive Efficiency Rating among all players in the country - https://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Illinois. Roach will be a junior PG who just killed it in the tournament, as much as it pains me. Upperclass PGs improve. Proctor is projected as a lottery pick who reclassed back to his original class and is eligible for draft next year. If you read ESPN, he was likely to be eligible for 2023 NBA Draft and may never have played a minute in college if he didn't suit up in 2022-2023. Unlike Cal who botched Sharpe, it looks like they aren't risking it by having him play now. And most consider SFs a backcourt player - i.e., a second wing player - in the modern offense. Although, as a Cal sychophant, it makes sense that you would prefer 3 dudes in the post clogging up the paint and playing rock fight bball without your 3 guard shooting the 3 ball. Starting Lyles over Booker sure did pay dividends against Wisky, didn't it!

So, try again. And do better if you expect to be taken seriously on these boards.

Lmao you're an idiot.

Funny how in all your posts, you're either bashing Cal or praising Duke. Seems odd.

And where in the absolute **** knuckles do you say I'm a Cal sycophant? Are you confusing me with someone else?

I don't know anyone on this board that takes you seriously, and I've been here a lot longer than you.

You want me to be impressed because Grandison played the 5th-most minutes for a mediocre Illinois team? Seriously, that was your first argument out of the gate?

When a bench player for a mediocre Illinois team is projected to start for you...it's not a good situation.

Roach averaged 8 PPG and 3APG last season...damn he's unreal. So impressive.

The Field of 68 ranked Duke's backcourt as the 24th best in the country, behind such dynamos as UAB, St. Louis and Rutgers.

I don't really care to be honest, it was just a comment that I made and I absolutely, firmly believe that Duke's backcourt will be it's weakness next year, but I could not care less enough to continue arguing with a Duke fan about it.

Sorry to offend your favorite team, but there must be a Duke board you can explore to get your rocks off all you want, since all you do here is hate on Cal/Kentucky and praise Duke.

And I think I'll go ahead and use that "ignore" button on you now.

Lol, OK Tampa. My status as an actual UK alum and significant K Fund Donor has already been well established on this Board. If you've actually been active on here as long as you purport, you would already know this.

Also, you said he wasn't a starter. I was merely pointing out that he was a starter and that he played the 5th most minutes on the team. Your information is wrong. Just like your opinion.
