He had no skills. He played hard. He was a tireless worker. Great defender. great attitude. But no shot. No ball handling. No passing.

Amazing that Cal got a guy with no skills drafted number 2. Especially since Cal can't coach.

I wish MKG would catch on somewhere but even in today's NBA you gotta have some skill besides playing hard.

Only skill NBA cares about these days is 3 point shooting. Maybe rebounding.

IDK. Maybe because his jumper was more broke than an iPhone charger from $5 below. Love him to death but his jump shot wasn't serviceable to have a long NBA career.

With that being said, it looks like he made over $72 mill in career earnings so he is doing fine.

Tell me any I phone wall charger that’s worth a dang. I can’t find one.

Jeez, let’s not make it sound like he’s friggin Khalil Whitney.

And you’re quite wrong about the ball handling. MKG had a fantastic handle for a guy his size. Did you somehow miss all those relentless drives through traffic he had at UK? That don’t happen without tight dribbling skills.

Dude had a lot going for him as a player. A great defender, a great rebounder, good handle, drove the ball and finished really well, and a truly relentless non-stop motor. But’ unfortunately, all of that was not enough to overcome that hideously awful jumpshot.

He would’ve done better in past eras. In the 90s those tough defense and rebounding specialists like him were held in far higher value. But a wing who can’t shoot ain’t gonna last in today’s NBA.

Just because MKG didn't dribble the ball like the Professor on an And1 mixtape doesn't mean he "has no handle". That guy at 6'7" 230 lbs could rip down a rebound and turn it into a one man fast break because he was so good at putting it on the floor and going absolutely full speed barreling down the court while keeping perfect control of the ball the entire time. Many times through traffic. That's not the mark of a guy with "no ball handling" skills.

I’ve seen guys shoot like MKG and I know what makes them hit. As weird as it is, 1 year with me and I bet he’s still in the league.

Simple. Place shooting foot in front of the other, push forward when you release. Don’t jump to peak.

He would have hit I guarantee it.

Pretty sure 70 will change his family forever.
If he was smart with his money it will change his family forever but if he was Antoine Walker levels of stupid then he will only change his life for a few years. I have heard nothing to indicate that is the case though as he seems to be pretty level headed.

Extremely topical and relevant post. More good stuff from the smoothest poster on rafters
I know. Right?
We need more sharpe threads and Cal sucks at everything in basketball threads.

Don‘t fret; if you look hard you can find them…. Hel just start your own….Orrrrrrr hijack a thread; that, is the best way

It’s not that he can’t handle, it’s just that he can’t handle without mysteriously getting called for a charge. At least when he was here.

I don’t know where you guys come up with some of this stuff, it’s almost like you were watching a different team than me in 2012.

MKG was a great finisher at UK …whether it be off the drive or fast break …and generally (but obviously not always) with no charge called.

What? Did you and I live in alternate universes in 2012?
