Yeah let's bring in a guy with zero coaching experience at UK. I swear people have lost their minds.
Yeah because it’s impossible that he’d succeed, right? Almost as dumb as to think the founder of Microsoft didn’t graduate from college. Oh wait….

Dumbest name I used to always here U of L fans use was “Mildcats”. Heard it often.
Try again. Our program is headed into a crap direction and you think hiring a guy with no coaching experience is what this program needs. Is that the response you wanted? Go back to the drawing board.

Not sure ulis is the guy but I'd be all for always having a former player In a major role. Preferably one that loves kentucky and maybe can rub off a little pride in some of them

Sure. Mildcats was all U of L fans said back in the day. U of L fans especially hate Ulis because he torched them, lol.

I noticed that Knight, Calapri K, Williams, Wooden, Self, none were great players, mostly small schools or never got off the bench
It makes sense, they got to the level they were at understanding the game and I’m sure paid attention to the games from the bench more than people who played. Probably respected the coaches and tried to learn what it was about early as well. Some have great minds but not the talent to use it, some are great salesmen.

Gates wasn’t a tech savant, he was a ruthless business man who stole many ideas and bankrupted companies with litigation because he accumulated more money than they did.

Never said I liked him. I actually think he’s scum. But some acting like it would be easier to send a man to the moon than a former player being a successful assistant is laughable.

“He’s never coached! He’d fail!”

Could be a good coach for sure, just hard to tell and traditionally most great coaches weren’t that good lol.

Macy was a prototypical, intelligent, savvy, knowledgeable, PG, He was a God awful coach

Yeah just because someone is a hell of a player does not mean they will be a good cos h. Look at ol One Cent.

Hell look at any of the great players that have tried to be coaches. It often doesn’t work.

Coaching requires more than in game knowledge.

People here think Cal is a crappy coach, meaning opinions here don’t amount to much.

Hell, just fire the staff, then load it up with former players that have zero coaching experience. I'm sure that would be the ticket!

Many here think that they, themselves, and two line cooks at Hardee’s could coach em’ up better than Calisari, so why not try it.

The best players don't make great coaches.

I'm curious why people just assume Ulis would make a good coach, especially at a major program like UK? Honest question.
High basketball IQ, played at and loves UK. Good recipe.

It honestly is just an opinion and some getting so upset by it in this thread must seriously be unhappy. LoL

Let's start a new thread about a former player becoming an assistant coach here everyday. Jamal Mashburn tomorrow.

Mashburn makes way too much money in the private sector to ever consider coaching imo. Great example of someone that set themselves up for post basketball success.

I’ve always thought I guy like Mash or Prince would be great administrators in an athletic department.

With guys like Ulis, I have no problem with them joining the staff, but it has to be in a role where they can learn along the way, and not need to jump in right away. That position used to be the Basketball Ops position. That’s where Strickland ahd Wagner were under Cal. For example, Mark Pope was the Director of Basketball Operations at UGA before getting an assistant job.

He’d definitely need to go the GA route first, but he sure can run a offense. I would love to see him here if he has a professional mindset and works his way up.

Early Fall, before Tyler Ullis's freshman season was underway, we passed by a restaurant, and from the street we could see most of the team spread around several tables. It looked for all the world like a young pasha (Ullis) holding court. Even from a distance it looked as if the players, new and old, deferred to him. I have no idea what he's like -- we didn't go in to get autographs or anything -- but I suspect that Ullis simply has It. Whatever It is. Whether he could communicate It to players in his charge is an open question. He may not want to. He's still young enough to play abroad somewhere.

I think my point is -- and I do have one -- that you can't rub the lamp of golden memory and summon up the assistant coach/djinn of your dreams.

You sound like somebody who is upset bc you made a dumb post and ppl are telling you it's an idiotic take. Deal with it big guy. Ulis was awesome here but nothing he showed on the court makes me think we need to hire him as an assistant currently.

Says the guy that estimated (with a straight face) that if Pitino had stayed at UK, he'd have about 12 championships by now. Twelve were your exacts words.

U of L fans (rivals fans in general) pretending to be disgruntled UK fans are something else.

Love Ulis but the guy has no NBA career. A guy like a rondo would be more idea due to his NBA career. I mean, would kids even know who Ulis is?

I don't want Ulis. Love him as a player. But no.
That being said, I don't think any kid grew up picking Nolan Smith or John scheyer or Amile Jefferson as jerseys to wear in pick up games and yet Duke is killing recruiting. Name brand doesn't always matter. Kids are gullible.

Ulis has very little life experience. He wouldn’t be ready to be a HC for another 10 years at least. Maturity matters in coaching. This isn’t the right time for ulis unless they invented some sort of grad ast spot for him. Ulis isn’t ready
I agree here. I'm not sure if he is still playing overseas and making money, but once he can no longer make money playing, coming back and being a "grad assistant" long enough to earn his degree wouldn't be a bad idea.

You just crap on anything Kentucky huh, Lowcut/CryChicken/hurtwhiny. You have little room to ***** about Alts. You’ve been stalking on several for long time. He’s got a point about Morgy. You are a very similar mewling little passive aggressive type personality. Facts irritate the shot out of you too, except when you make up your own BS which is about 95% of the time, then you take up for yourself on your alts.
LOL he presented ZERO facts. But I'm sure leadbelly's got goosebumps to know that an ignoramus like you is white knighting for him.

What are my alts, little man?Name them.

People throw out his name a lot. What is the fascination with him?
People that don't understand the passage of time.

I remember Pitino giving him a lot of credit as a gregarious guy who they always used as a host on recruiting visits. Had some of the intangibles that could be a good college assistant coach and recruiter.

25 years of flaming this staff ago. His time of getting benefit of doubt starting a career at UK has passed.

Blah Blah Blah.

Tell us why you chose "Mildcats". Rival fans used it heavily a while back and some still use it. Can't wait to hear this spin.
