I was always in the VFW or whatever it is across the street as soon as they opened for Bloody Mary’s and skee ball on Oaks day. Was too hungover to make it that early the next day so had to sweat out the walk to Derby. They used to have a carnival-like setup just down the street we’d pass on the way to the dive bar at the end of block. We’d finish drinking until the crowd dispersed and hopefully find the car.

Went to the Pegasus blowout one year so drunk I walked up to the table of Queen contestants and asked which one was gonna be lucky enough to give me a bj. Was snatched up by a couple of friends laughing as they carried me away. They never let me live that one down. Thankfully it was them that rescued me and there weren’t any camera phones.

I get why Levis is getting NFL hype, because they love his size and arm strength, but if he wants to actually do something at the next level, he’d better work on his accuracy. A lot.

I appreciate the hype for Levis, but we play at Florida and Ole Miss in our first 5 games. Let’s get thru that stretch before anyone gets too carried away.

Uncle, who recently passed, basically lived at that VFW. We'd pop in there and grab a beer and brat on the way to get picked up after Oaks. Clark is right though, the best are still the random house parties you stumble on trying to find your ride.

- Counterpoint - he will look like some hybrid form of Rodgers and Lamar on Thanksgiving weekend, so maybe that's the last thing scouts will remember.

- Many great Derby memories - senior year of college was the first post-911. A lot of heightened security and the advent of see-through bags/cooler checks, you know, in case terrorists thought of hiding a dirty bombs in their Coleman coolers to blow up the infield.

Astute thinkers and having lived through UK's campus going dry in the late 90's, we adjusted accordingly by strapping gallon ziplock bags of booze to our inner-thigh

Police presence was overwhelming. About 100 yards out on Central Ave. one of our bootleggers crew had a fifth of Skol vodka explode right in front of a cluster of mounties. He panicked and started cussing, creating the perfect distraction for the rest of us to scatter in the crowd while he got frisked and taken downtown.

Poor sap had to spend the weekend in the clink while the rest of us toasted him not turning states evidence.

Dad tells the story every season of their buddy who posed as a quadriplegic/other in a chair with a draped blanket, full dramatics, and pony keg fastened to the back of his wheelchair…into the infield.

Distasteful for certain in 2022, but circa 1970 I trust it wasn’t nearly as an impossible-seeming feat it would be today.

He tells the story, which has been confirmed by others countless times over the years, like a badge of honor, and I respect it.

My guess is that tommyg, in his line of work, is absolutely thrilled. I get the feeling that many of his ilk care significantly more about how many dollars are being spent than they do who picks up the W or the L. I'm quite certain of this, actually.

(and I'm not judging tom, as i gladly ***** myself out for $$, too. professionally speaking.)

Not sure I have ever heard of a draft opinion being leaked like this before. That is going to make some heads explode in that court.
If a law clerk is the source of the leak, God help him/her/it. That would probably kill any chance at passing the character and fitness committee in any state and very well might lead to an indictment if the leak was intentional.

Best hope would be a spot on the Planned Parenthood board and a celebrity NY Times editorial gig.

* The people who protest for or against abortion never look like they get laid anyway.

* Just when COVID talk was finally going away completely, I'm glad to know that everyone will be slinging screaming hot abortion takes all summer.

It is almost like some AI somewhere decided the whole apparatus needed to pivot to a new wedge issue to get everyone outraged in roughly equal constituencies...

-I wonder about the authenticity of the draft opinion.

^I do not wonder about the timing of the leak. It's an election year and summer riot season is nigh...gotta get the foot soldiers fired up.

^last you'll hear outta me on the subject. You're welcome.

I always thought Roe v Wade was sketchy from a deriving the legality of abortion from the 14th amendment perspective. If they make it the law of the land, fine: if they don’t, give it to the states. Seems like that would clear things up.
