Edit: I'll open this up for any contrarians. What is your view on the Jai stuff? How do we make sense of this situation in the most positive light?

I'm not defending one way or the other, but what does it say about Duke that they lost Nolan Smith, who won a national title at Duke (vs. Lucas who really had no affinity to Kentucky), to Louisville.

Same situation- Nolan Smith was going to be asst #3 at Duke (same with Lucas here), and he got a pay raise and a bump up in standing to go to a different school.

Very similar situations. Not defending, just saying it happens sometimes if the assistant realizes he's probably going to remain third fiddle on his current staff. Happens every year at pretty much every school.

Kansas lost one of their top assistants, Jerrence Howard, last year to Texas for the same reason. He had been at KU, and went to a lesser-school (Texas), for a pay increase and a title bump.

It just happens, the sky isn't falling.

Just one man's opinion.

The problem with this line of thinking is you frame your position in such a way that makes it look like losing Jai is an isolated incident. It is but another sign of Cal’s decline.

Nolan Smith’s dad won a title at Louisville. At least there was some connection. Lucas clearly saw the writing on the wall with Cal

And how about the Kansas assistant leaving KU to go to Texas, right on the heels of a 40 point drumming in the NCAA Tournament and Self not having won a title in 13 years.

What is the excuse there?

Are you serious?

We didn't sit Sharpe, Cal did.
We didn't go 9-16, Cal did.
We didn't lose to a 15 seed, Cal did.
We didn't lose 17 of the last 20 head-to-heads against Duke for RSCI top 10 recruits, Cal did.
We didn't just lose our most efficient recruiter to a rival program, Cal did.

You should apply for Calipari's Minister of Propaganda. You still don't seem to understand that no one is "piling on" anything. We're simply studying the situation for what it actually is.

It sure looks like it, and unlike UK, they hardly do anything with the talent. One Final four since this shift really started happening. K could not even get Zion to And how about the Kansas assistant leaving KU to go to Texas, right on the heels of a 40 point drumming in the NCAA Tournament and Self not having won a title in 13 years.

Kansas fans didn’t even really like Jerrence Howard, they’ve been wanting to run that guy out of town for years.

The takes on here are just bad. People that have really no understanding of how this works.

Howard was ran out of Kansas

Jai Lucas left UK and there’s nothing we could have done to keep him. That’s bad news. We wouldn’t have said “oh well we can’t promote you in any way, let Duke have the best recruiting assistant and up and comer.

To actually think this….stop posting and start watching / reading. It’s not how it works.

Nolan Smith was an ENTIRELY different situation.

There’s no way to slice this, read the headlines people. This isn’t good.

Jai hasn’t stuck anywhere for a long time. He jumped around in college and he has jumped around in coaching. I will be shocked if he stays at Duke for long.

CJ gonna stub his toe and you gonna call out a poster and ask them to explain how this isn't Cal's fault.

You know a football guy when the use the term “chicken little”. The fact that term has made it to the basketball forum tells you all you need to know about where this program is headed
I'm not a football guy, and chicken little is a very old folk tale from Europe, not something invented by football fans.

You make a good point. Cal has two coaches to replace now. A SnC guy and Lucas who was an up and comer. Not to mention there are still massive holes in the roster

It’s just what our football fan base pumpers said for 40 years while there were ziltch for expectations. 2-9 the naysayers are chicken littles. Friggin common term to call out people with high expectations. Now that mentality has edged into our basketball tradition. It shows how far our bb program has fallen under cal.

I have to say asking an individual poster like that is definitely a sign of respect. It’s like over on the football board everyone waiting for what Rock Cat has to say about recruiting.

This little baby boy is so out of arguments he has to bring coaches families into it. Weak.
No point in arguing with wankers like you at this point. You just have that keyboard set to ‘auto-defend.’ Every argument you make is one I’d be embarrassed about and my elementary aged children can see the flaws and weaknesses.

You’re a troll.

I think their is more to the story than Lucas going to Duke. He was the coach that recruited Sharpe and for all we know Lucas may have lied to Cal about Sharpe. Eventually it will come out.
Are you a Cal defender too? My goodness. There’s not more to this story.

Outside of BBN, Duke > UK. It’s that simple. Don’t know why there was prior hesitation, but you’re really reaching here, and this particular reach seems like an attempt to lesson the blow and relieve Cal of responsibility.
