We're probably better off without Sharpe. Could you imagine if his handler made him shut it down for the season after a minor ankle tweak? It would've been a **** storm of epic proportions. People here would've attacked Wildcat Lodge Jan. 6 style.

I posted this a few pages back but it's a good breakdown of Reeves' strengths and how it can tie into next year's team.

"Last season, Kentucky was rated as Excellent on offense by Synergy (88th percentile overall). However, on shots taken in the final 4 seconds of the shot clock UK rated as merely Good (62nd percentile). The issue was that Kentucky’s guards were all below average in creating late in the shot clock. Kellan Grady was the highest rated (45th percentile), with TyTy Washington 37th percentile and both Sahvir Wheeler and Davion Mintz below the 20th percentile. I wrote about UK’s issues with their late game offense, which revolved around late shot clock possessions. Well, guess what Reeves is very good at?

Last season Antonio Reeves was rated as Excellent by Synergy at scoring in late clock situations, ranking in the 88th percentile nationally. The only Wildcat on last year’s team who was rated as Excellent in late clock situations was Oscar Tshiebwe, and obviously he’t not creating a lot of looks for himself. Now Kentucky will have two weapons who have proven they can score in late clock situations, which should make them much more dangerous with a lead late in ballgames.

The primary reason Reeves is such a good late clock scorer is that he is very good at the play types that make up a lot of late clock opportunities, Isolation and PnR Ballhandler. In fact, last season UK’s main weakness in halfcourt offense was that they ranked in the 41st percentile when the PnR Ballhandler tried to score. That’s Reeves’ strength, as he was in the 94th percentile. Simply put, the things he’s good at were weaknesses for UK last year and are important when UK tries to hold onto leads.

I’ve seen some concern expressed that Reeves might only be a spot-up threat similar to Kellan Grady, who was even more accomplished for a better mid-major team than Reeves. I don’t think comparing Reeves to Grady is quite right, however. At Davidson, Grady rated as Excellent on spot-ups but below that level in everything else; he was a bit above average as a ballhandler. At UK, he thrived by focusing on the spot-up role because that was where his skills fit best. Reeves rates much better as a creator off the dribble, and that should translate to UK reasonably well."

The 9 man rotation is likely set.

Don’t see Scheierman wanting to battle for minutes with all the wings we have.

Even if he is better (I don’t know enough about him to say) than all the rest, he might think twice before putting himself in a situation where he might split time with guys like Wallace, Livingston, Reeves, and Fredrick.

I see the rotation being something like this:

Starters

G Wheeler
G Wallace
F Livingston
F Toppin
F Tshiebwe

Bench

G Fredrick
G Reeves
F Collins
F Ware

This is how I figure Cal will do things. I would start a shooter in place of Toppin or Wheeler (or both), but that’s just me.
Staff is still after Baylor very hard. They know they need him. He’s the missing piece.

Yeah, Sharpe definitely not coming back to come off bench. Would be a Puff the Dragon Situation. Wallace and Reeves better college players.
Wait, you're arguing that Sharpe is gone because Reeves is coming? LOL it's the other way around.

If you think Sharpe wouldn't have a shot at POY next year you're delusional or a serious Calboi.

I hope so on Wallace but are we talking about the same Wheeler? He ball watches causing him to get beat backdoor a lot. He is too small to switch on any high pick and rolls and is very inconsistent in fighting through screens. He gets steals but also gambles a lot to get them which if it isn't a turnover it can be an easy basket.

Everyone says they want a scorer and I agree we needed another shooter but they must have forgotten in the last 10 games of the season the opposing team had 11 different perimeter players score 17+ on us and we were 6-4 during that stretch. If you eliminate the 2 Florida games it is 11 guys over 8 of the final 10 games and we were 4-4 in those 8 games. Our guards couldn't stop anyone down the stretch.
TyTy and Grady were obviously hurt, they couldn’t guard a pole. TyTy was almost unplayable against St. Peter’s. That made Wheeler look worse IMO.

KY was horrible on defense at the end of the year on the perimeter but now we know how bad TYTY and Grady were hurt it makes more sense. Wallace will be a nice upgrade on D no matter what and I am hoping we are better at SF as well.

Not a chance on this God's green earth of being in top 30 in NPOY. You do not know basketball. I can watch him dribbling in his little one on one drills and see his center of gravity is way to high. I could put someone like Ashton Hagans on him and you wouldn't hear from him all game long, just like Boston his freshmen year here. Who in the hell is talking about Cal you nut licker.

I’m sure the staff wants to add him, but the question is will he want to come and share time with the guys we already have? And if he does come, who loses out on minutes? There are only so many minutes to be had.

I figure if Scheierman comes here, he will start at the 3, which will push Livingston to the 4. So Toppin might decide to stay in the draft rather than compete for minutes at the 3 and 4. Or he might return and that takes minutes from Collins and he decides to transfer midseason or after the season.

Bottom line is that no matter who Cal adds there are only going to be 7 or 8 guys that will play most of the minutes. He isn’t splitting the minutes up evenly among the 10-11 guys he has. The 5 starters are going to get the most and 2-3 reserves will get most of the remaining minutes and Ware is pretty much locked into his 9th man/backup to Tshiebwe role.

Scheierman signing pushes someone out of the rotation and likely out of the program eventually.

Clearly Wheeler's minutes are what need to be reduced, that would allow Wallace to play PG (or a transfer). Wheeler playing 30 minutes a game is gonna be brutal this year.

Got news for ya, nobody on this board thinks Reeves is better than Sharpe but you. And for you to bring up the disgraced Ashton Hagans...LOL Unbelievable.

Once again, I bring up people who have contributed to this great university. How is he disgraced Einstein? You are an idiot!! Sharpe has not scored 1 point in college basketball, not 1 point, not 1 assist, nothing. Even the infamous number 1 recruit in 2015 Skal Labissiere did more in college and for UK. Ha!

I we don’t some fans might get what they always wanted. UVA scoring. Rupp will be empty if that’s the case.
Rupp will never be empty when UK is playing.

I am sure he will be better at UK than Sharpe if he plays at all.

Hagans? He's disgraced because he pouted and got kicked off the team for the last game of his college career. Were you living under a rock?

Wheeler *could* stay with his regular PG minutes, if we have the offense around him. Hard to say. If Ty and Grady aren't injured, or if we even just have one of them healthy.. we might not even be talking about this. I agree, Wheeler is undersized and his offense past the rim is not great.. but I have to imagine he's in a better position to create offense, along with what he can already do, than Wallace.

But man, if Wallace is THAT good, things are looking nice.

I think it would benefit UK would for Wallace to be able to play minutes at the PG position so Wheeler can get more rest. I am sure playing so many minutes took its toll on Wheeler as well last season.

Wheeler plays well overall, but just like with Brooks, the Rafters mob only focused on the negative plays. They also ignore the fact that Wheeler & Brooks were left to be the shooters in key situations/losses because Grady, TyTy & Mintz were atrocious in our 8 losses and did not demand the ball.

I will also gladly start WW3 in this thread by posting the obvious that if Wheeler was from KY everyone on this board would love him overall and blame the other guys I mentioned above more.

LOL, what?

You would take a mid major player, that will never get a sniff in the NBA, over a dude that scored higher than AD on the recruiting scale.

This is soooo Rupp Rafters mentality.

No man, just no.
Well….you’re on Rupp Rafters too…so there’s that😎

Wow you're so angry. You've been here 13 years and all you know how to do is yell 'idiot!!' at people. I suggest getting some sunshine and fresh air before you kick the dog or the wife.
