Cousy award finalist, 2:1 assist ratio, Good defender, always plays hard. Man, some of you….It means we are playing 4 on 5 again.
6 turnovers against St Peter's...Some of you...............Cousy award finalist, 2:1 assist ratio, Good defender, always plays hard. Man, some of you….
Love how people focus on one game….6 turnovers against St Peter's...Some of you...............
The most important game of the whole season?Love how people focus on one game….
I am on your side, in that I think we need a different PG (who can consistently make 3's, and not push them to the rim like a middle school girl).6 turnovers against St Peter's...Some of you...............
His games does have a lot more variability than most guys. On a 1-10 scale, he can be an 8 or a 2. Whereas someone like Teague was steadily a 4 to 6.When Wheeler's good, he's damn good. When he's bad, he's damn bad. That might sound like an obvious statement, however, the point is that there's not a lot of middle ground with him. He can win games for you and he can singlehandedly lose games for you as well. That's not what you want in your point guard.
So, I hope the "good" Wheeler shows up A LOT next season.
This is where I am as an outsider looking at Wheeler. He's solid but you just feel like he limits the teams overall ability in some way - I'm not sure if its due to how the defense plays him or what but there's nothing about Wheeler's game that scares anyway - he's just "pretty good." . Who was the last 5'9 PG that can't shoot to lead their team on a deep tournament run?I love what Wheeler brings to the table with his speed and ability to create for other guys.
Unfortunately, doubtful UK goes on a long tournament run if he gets major minutes. The dude can't shoot, and way too often drives into the paint and gets his shot blocked to Albuquerque.
He most definitely has games where he looks in control and makes some shots, but unfortunately that is not sustainable for him over a six game tourney stretch.
When he had shooters to pass to, he passed. The last part of the season. When our shooters all went cold, he tried to do too much and got sloppy.I love what Wheeler brings to the table with his speed and ability to create for other guys.

The bad thing is it looks like we will have even fewer shooters next season. When he had shooters to pass to, he passed. The last part of the season. When our shooters all went cold, he tried to do too much and got sloppy.
agreeFor several weeks in the middle of the season, we were the best team in the country — because Cal backed off and let Wheeler run the show. That run and gun offense is what I want to see more of. But if Cal won’t let that happen, it won’t matter who our point guard is.
We'll see. It's way too early to know. After the NBA deadline We'll see what shakes loose. The bad thing is it looks like we will have even fewer shooters next season.
If the only people you want to return are the ones who played well in that game, we'd have one player on the roster.6 turnovers against St Peter's...Some of you...............
Was PJ Washington a bad player because he missed all those free throws against K-State in the tourney? The most important game of the season. The most important game of the whole season?
If you don't see how limited Wheeler is I don't know what to tell you.Was PJ Washington a bad player because he missed all those free throws against K-State in the tourney? The most important game of the season.
Funny how much criticism he gets and the ineptness of our forward to score at the end of the season, which resulted in him having the ball in his hands to much, especially late in shot clock moments. His inability to make a jumpshot just kills the offense! That combined with his ability to make horrendous turnovers and get a shot blocked an internet amount of the time is a bad combination.
Likely because our forward could barely walk because of the pain.Funny how much criticism he gets and the ineptness of our forward to score at the end of the season, which resulted in him having the ball in his hands to much, especially late in shot clock moments.

All were terrible but all are gone except for one.Wheeler:
11 pts, 6 ast, 4 reb, 6 to, 4/8 FG (1/2 3pt), 39 min
TyTy
5 pts, 1 ast, 2 reb, 2 to, 2/10 FG (1/2 3pt), 32 min
Grady
8 pts, 4 ast, 5 reb, 0 to, 1/9 FG (1/7 3pt),
Mintz
8 pts, 2 ast, 3 reb, 0 to, 3/7 FG (1/3 3pt), 24 min
Maybe, just maybe, Wheeler wasn’t the issue. None of the other guards played well. Wheeler is a great playmaker and we are lucky to have him. When TyTy was healthy and Grady’s plantar fasciitis issue wasn’t as bad (inexcusable for Cal to play him 40 minutes a game while dealing with that when Wheeler/TyTy were out, btw), our offense was one of the best in the nation. Get him another offseason to work on shooting, hopefully improve on that, and he should be in for a great season. Turnovers are going to happen when you push the pace, you just have to live with it and cut down on boneheaded ones.
How do we know? At this point (late April) last year we had Grady and hoped Mintz might return. That was it, no Tyty, no Fredrick. The bad thing is it looks like we will have even fewer shooters next season.
Who is Cal after that can shoot outside of Reeves? How do we know? At this point (late April) last year we had Grady and hoped Mintz might return. That was it, no Tyty, no Fredrick.
Everyone here would (rightfully) be elated to have TyTy back, or another year of eligibility for Grady. All were terrible but all are gone except for one.
Way too small of a sample size (he only made 11 SEC 3's), AND I think 2 of those he BANKED in (LUCK), AND the SEC did not guard him past the FT line (if they even just put his man 16' from the basket does he make 30%?).He also s hot 39% from three in SEC play, but the issue is when guys around wheeler aren't effective. If he's got some dudes next to him next year, he can be great. His three isn't abysmal.
My point is that Wheeler has played for 3 seasons and is what he is.A bad shooter and nothing changes that.Everyone here would (rightfully) be elated to have TyTy back, or another year of eligibility for Grady.
Not sure what your point is.
Ah, that must be why nobody in college or the NBA has ever improved their shot after 3 seasons. Makes sense. My point is that Wheeler has played for 3 seasons and is what he is.A bad shooter and nothing changes that.
Sure man.Wheeler will suddenly become a great 3 point shooter next season.Want to make a bet?Ah, that must be why nobody in college or the NBA has ever improved their shot after 3 seasons. Makes sense.
Nobody on this flailing pity party board shows any consistency. They pretend to want Cal to move away from 1 and done, but when a 4 year player, who has improved every season doesn't perform like they think he should, they want him recruited over. There is no rational conversation with a child mid-tantrum.Wheeler:

Agree. Teach in practice not during a game. For several weeks in the middle of the season, we were the best team in the country — because Cal backed off and let Wheeler run the show.
