It's not even a question. Tubby's issue was recruiting and his motivation to do it well. Beyond that, he gave 100% to coaching, winning games, the tournament, respecting our traditions, respecting our fans, etc.

We had a Final Four drought for sure, but people forget that he had about a 3 year span there where we were the winningest program in college ball even though we didn't make it to the FF. And he wasn't ducking the other traditional powers, canceling home and home series, etc.

I'd take that Tubby back in a heartbeat at this point.

Hard to argue against Cal’s low being worse than Tubby’s low. Obviously Cal’s best was better though. But Tubby never came close to missing the tournament much less 9-16 or a loss to a 15 seed.
Give Tubby Cal's roster during his tenure and I guarantee he comes back with more than 1 title.

Tubby got fat and lazy and mailed it in when he got his big payday - sound familiar? The difference is Tubby could coach a team up in a game and make adjustments, whereas Cal is too ignorant and stubborn and gets outcoached on the big stage by far lesser names.

Tubby was really disorganized. I'm beginning to think Cal is as bad or worse.

Tubby had 2 really good teams his last 5 years. Never missed the tourney. Never lost in the first round.

So i take tubby in that comparison. It was time for him to go however. He probably stuck around a few years too long. Cal is to that point now too.

We haven’t had a truly great regular season or post season since 2015.

You are comparing apples to oranges by saying the word "year". You know this though, that's why you made your post. There was a tournament cancelled in which we had a very good chance of going to a final 4. Teams with good guard play advance in the tournament. Cals last 5 possible tournaments were 17,18,19,21,22. 8 wins. That's the only accurate way to make a comparison. Yes he's still 1 shy of tubby because of the past 2 tournaments.

You don't get to claim a Final Four in 2019. Sorry. That's bogus. For one, our point guard had left the team. Maybe we make the SS but even then Tubby still leads.

That team in the year it was cancelled just gets better and better each year that goes by. They will be legendary before it's all over.

Let's face it, that team was no better than most of the teams fielded in the last 7 years other than the losing record season.

Tubby's recruiting was crap at the end. Whether he didn't want to be dirty or what, we were well on our way to ending up like Indiana basketball or Nebraska football. He was smart in Xs and Os but he never did anything after he left Kentucky.

Cal was able to recruit. That was his big selling point. That has gone away. It was gamble for a short-term payoff. We looked the other way as tradition and brand had been completely transformed and dismissed because we were getting players and going to Final Fours. Well, the landscape changed and we no longer had many studs or stability on the roster and his lack of coaching IQ is now on display.

Cal sucking doesn't change that Tubby sucked at the end too. It was just for different reasons. Good guy but it was time to go and it's time for Cal to bounce too but he's going to have to be the one to break up because we can't do it.

What many people fear and then hypothesize is you're going to get some extreme. Somehow you can't get an in-between---smart coach who can also recruit and build a good and consist roster without every year having massive turnover.

Are those numbers accurate?
The bad part really is neither one of those numbers are inherently horrid. The problem is how Cal has looked with his teams.

When Tubby lost you could usually just say we got outplayed and lost to a better team. Not so when Cal loses. When Cal loses its usually because we got out coached. Now, granted. That’s happens to every coach. (Hell, happento K this year with Davis). But it happens FAR too often with Cal.

Dude has got to pull his head out of his butt and fix it. Or leave.

And it gets fixed by running the offense we had in January and December. THAT was Kentucky basketball. We reverted and started to drive into 4 people again.

I'm trying to be more understanding of some of my fellow UK fans and actually look Into what they are saying. Not just dismiss it because I believe the person to be an idiot. So I ask....
I want to know your way of thinking on our program being down since 2016-2017.
What happened in 2017 tournament that makes you believe we were a failure that season?

Disagree. Tubby also struggled managing talent and egos even when he brought in a quality class, hence two Team Turmoils.

The man was all bench coaching and micro management of every possession. His players just avatars for his plays.

Sort of latter day Denny Crum but without any flow allowed and little premium on athleticism.

By the end he was more smashmouth football OC than basketball coach and especially a manger of personnel and program.

Tubby if he was at KY today with the transfers portal and NIL, the guy would coach up whatever he got to a title
