Just wait 4 more years.... I believe Calipari's lifetime contract states that if he retires after the 2025-26 season he can retire and cash in on a guaranteed Consultant/Representative role with UK for the rest of his life. You gotta think this is what Cal is looking at. Lets face it as long as that is looming and he's getting paid soo much now, he's not going anywhere AND with his buyout soo high we ain't going to fire him. So you can only hope for the retirement which I think will come shortly after that date is reached.

With that said, most of yall aren't going to be satisfied with the next coach either.... I'll soon login here to see people saying, I remember when we used to land the top recruits under Calipari... and I'm going to laugh at the never ending cycle of complaints...lol.

I could continue to deal with Cal if he followed up seasons like this past one, with returning guys like TT, OT, and especially SS, the following year.

That’s why the second half of his tenure has been a disappointment, he doesn’t build second year squads! He’s left multiple titles on the plate for failing to do just that.

you could say that now under Cal. We used to land the top recruits now we don’t anymore. He’s lost his fastball. He won’t change. He’s reached his final stage of evolution and he’s going to fade out.

In four years, our program might look a lot more like Indiana than it will Kansas and Duke.

Cal has no incentive to change.
He also has no incentive to quit - the OP is dead on.

There is one interesting question I have - only $400k of his salary comes from UK - the rest from some marketing agreement. So why do we keep hearing UK has to pay out this massive buyout? Wouldn't it make more sense that UK only has to pay out some # of years times $400k, and not this wacky 8 figure number? Wouldn't this marketing company that's on the hook for 99% of this absurd annual salary be the ones on the hook?

You're right that there will always be something to complain about. There's no doubt. I mean, I absolutely love Mark Stoops and what he's done for us, but yeah, there's stuff to ***** about. Nothing is perfect, especially not in sports with regards to philosophy scheme whatever. In the end results are all that matter. But the way Coach Stoops goes about his business, his blue collar attitude, his relatability to the fan base. Etc.

I don't want this thread to disappear like the other one did where we all got in to it about kneeling, etc. But the way Coach Stoops handled the BLM stuff and lead the team on march through downtown was all positive. He went about it the right way. Cal handled it terribly, had players like Keion going on about taking Rupps name off the arena, and didn't even have the balls to do it here and did it on the road at Florida. That tells you all you need to know about how they handled their business. Cowardly.

Back to the topic at hand, I said in another thread, if we are going to get the exact same results, I'd rather we did things the Tubby way than the Cal way. I cared a lot more about Woo, Perry, Sheray, Ramel, Joe, etc than I do about any single one of the one and dones. And that even includes the great ones.

care to elaborate? in 2019 when he signed the contract it says that in 6 years he'd be eligible to retire and transition into a University Rep role.
I’ll elaborate for him. Here are the things that you’re incorrect about:

1. He has the ability to move to the administrative role starting on July 1, 2024. You stated after the 2026 season.

2. The Special Assistant to the AD position is not a lifetime position. People get this wrong the most. That gig runs out when his contract runs out, so he would have that position until June 30, 2029. This position pays $950k.

The sneaky thing for Barnhart to do if he wants to fire Cal is convince him to transition to the administrative role on July 1, 2024 and fire him without cause. His buyout would be $5 million at that point.

It’s just a tricky way for a university to make it sound like they are only spending 400k out of their budget for a coach. The remainder of the salary comes from the UK Athletics budget. They just use revenue from contracts/agreements they have with outside companies (Nike, SEC media deal, etc.) to say that’s how they pay the remainder of the contract. In reality, that money doesn’t go directly to Cal. It goes into the Athletic Department budget and they say it’s used for Cal’s (and any other coach who has a similar deal) salary.

People are already saying “I remember when we used to land too recruits under Calipari” and he hasn’t even left yet.

Whether we’re happy or not with the next coach is entirely up to Mitch and the next coach. You can’t brag about having the most passionate and loyal fanbase in the country and then b**** and whine when they aren’t happy with historically bad results (worst season in 100 years, worst NCAA losss ever), loss of records (lost all time wins, lost longest 3 Pt streak), losses to rivals and ranked teams, and we’re not even the top bball school in a football conference.

Get off your knees and stand up for your program.

And if he had that role he would probably pick Bruiser as the next HC (might be an upgrade)

Marks Stoops is a coach. Cal is a charlatan. I’d run through a brick wall for Stoops.

Nailed it. Player retention has killed him.

And his defenders say it happens everywhere, and that’s true to a degree, but not at the level it happens here. And one thing that’s been pretty consistent from champion to champion is that they all return multiple starters from the previous season.

I don’t think people understand how much it sets us back when we invest all that time into a kid like ty ty washington for him to leave before he’s been here long enough to be a great college player.

I’m critical of Cal because he is unwilling to adapt his on the court coaching strategies that i think costs us wins. I’m critical of Cal because it appears that he has favorites and doesn’t give some others the benefit of the doubt.

But as a humanitarian, you can’t criticize Cal. He busts his tail helping others in need including the west KY tornado victims, Haiti earthquake, etc. No other coach that “I know of” does more than him in that regard.
And for God’s sake move on from the kneeling crap snowflake.

It amazes me how so many people cannot read or simply regurgitate what they heard wihout investigating it first. The contract never was a lifetime contract but allow some deranged MB hater to call it that.....then it sticks for the ignorant.

eh, in four years what will kansas and duke look like?
Kansas isn’t going to stop winning anytime soon.

Duke will still be good for the next few years. Not sure what Scheyer can do beyond that. If he doesn’t succeed in these first two years with all that talent. He’s screwed.

No the FANS have to pay it I'm told by the Cal slurpers. And it's $46,000,000, or $52,000,000...they aren't sure.
