I have zero bias toward a coaches pedigree.
I wouldn't care if its Dean's Smith son if the guy was qualified to be coach here.
The idea of Stackhouse is intriguing but only because I would hope he could recruit these kids based on his connections and history. I don't think for a second he'd show allegiance to Carolina over his responsibilities to UK. Now he might leave UK if he is successful and the Carolina position opens up, but that is a risk I'd be willing to take.
That said, Vanderbilt is a tough place to recruit and ultimately coach, but Stackhouse hasn't really proven much there as coach other than he is the best dressed in the league.
At the moment there is no coach out there that excites me as a replacement but if UK can get out from under that stupid contract with Cal, I'd happily take a gatekeeper until the right choice comes along
I'm just over a coach who readily admits that losing doesn't bother him and his priorities aren't aligned with the goals of the program. I don't want a coach where the AD has to show up after a loss and tell the fans what it important to the program because he (the coach) doesn't even talk about it anymore.
I do think that moment told Cal the gig was up here and he either had to prove he had it in him to win a championship or hit the bricks.
All that said, I thought Coaches went to head coaching gigs in the NBA when they were trending upward, not when they were tanking a program. Makes zero sense to me why the Lakers want Cal unless they believe they can trade for an all UK team of guys he coached. Maybe they think more than one of Towns, Booker, Shai, Bam, Maxey, Herro and Randle would wear the gold in the next few years with Cal as coach.
