For Gods sake, MUST we already do this? Why badger the guy who runs the forum when he CLEARLY said they will look at it. They're still setting this up after just 3 or 4 days in the transition. And like he said, we could end up with NO free forum, but hey lets just keep poking the bear. Make sense right?
Agree, some of the posters are completely nuts. It’s a free site and they’re complaining about a bunch of old posts. Are there that many frans in the group. I don’t care if any of the old posts get moved over, just start new. If Tom doesn’t want a WBB board because the sky is blue then Tom has the right to not have a WBB board.

WTF is so damn difficult about waiting one month - in the middle of the summer no less - for the site admin to make an assessment about adding a forum?

…..and if a separate WBB is not added, there will nevertheless be a mixed forum where all the WBB posts can be viewed in any event. Relax.

They said they were moving all the posts over. That is what they said they would do. Your right Tom has the right to do whatever he wants here. I also have the right to stop coming here to post. I had been a paying member for nearly a decade, with the possibility of becoming one again. This really doesn't help the marketing of trying to increase your paid membership when I am deeply considering quitting posting altogether.

Tom, I’m not bitter. Honestly I saw the women’s forum as an excellent addition on rivals . To me it’s more like you may being a little stubborn, and that’s just an honest observation and I’m not trying to be petty. The suggestion was brought up before and yes the forum never got created for whatever reason. So you should be able to understand some skepticism when it appears you are trying to push it out for a month utiliIng a metric that may be difficult to measure women’s or men’s posts. I was a paying member for a little under a decade but stopped when I had kids. I still enjoy coming to a community to cheer on Hawks, and the best forum for that the last 3 years was the women’s free forum. You had 20-30 fairly active posters that were pretty level heads with not a lot of BS. There may be difference of opinion but these are your fan forums. Your company purchased the rivals site to increase usership. 1. I would think it’s prudent to be welcoming even if you think we are being snarky 2. Be willing to try it. I understand there is likely a lot of work with the transition, and would understand it that argument had you made it. I struggle to see how you can monitor traffic and that’s all I was saying. At least you have active free boards again 😉.
Lots of great recruiting information shared on that board. The recruiting threads were great. No clutter. Everyone used them.

So, you badger others who have a conversation with TK that really doesn't affect you.

You’re right, they did say they would move the posts over. But as others have said, just give them time. But as someone who has been through multiple software changes at work, the new software is never the same as the old software, some good, some bad. I imagine the same will be here. We just have to get used to it and/or accept it. I’m just glad there’s still a free board. I’ve had an on3 subscription for two years prior but recently didn’t renew because of personal issues with time. That may change in the future, I’m hoping.

KC - I made 3-4 logical posts. If that is going to cause the free boards to go there is a bigger issue than me making some good arguments on the validity of a womens board. Just go look at the football board or offtopic board anything posted here is incredibly mild. He wants to monitor the traffic to decide, in the summer for a winter sport that has minimal information going on right now. Meaning we won't have the traffic for him to justify it. I was more put off on how he responded to me and others. Saying he created the basketball forum, basically to appease us, and a place we could complain about him and that we have had hostility towards him. At no time did I say anything hostile. The worst I said is I don't think he wants to have a womens forum for whatever reason. I don't think he is a bad guy at all. I don't know the specific reason why but I don't think he has any intention of making a womens board. So be it. I always said I would give this board a trial period. I have cut out a lot of things in my life this year. I am very tempted to cut out my fandom message board habit as well. I have been following and posting since 2004. In either case I think for me an end of era is coming sooner or later by my choice, Tom's Choice or On3's choice.
Thank you for being reasonable about it. I was just saying lets see how things go in the next few weeks. Were several months yet from basketball cranking up for the Hawks anyway. I totally understand your thought on learning to do without. I still haven't cut the cord on my comcast and its costing me plenty with adding the B1G network, and Peacock. I'll be retiring about this time next year, and will be taking a hard look at what I spend for the whole sports on TV, social media etc... Not having the option to attend games this is like a lifeline of sorts. For the most part I enjoy the connection here as well, with a few exceptions.....

If what I posted is "badgering" someone, then they need to get a thicker skin. All I said is lets wait a few weeks and see what happens. They've only had this rolled out for 4 days since the conversion actually happened. That doesn't seem all that unreasonable.

This conversation has been 4+ years in the making, even Tom admits that. So it’s not just the transition.

Okay then. He did suggest that the posters should contribute multiple threads and posts about womens basketball and that might be advantageous to getting that request fulfilled. Should we take that advise or just assume that it won't happen regardless of anything we do?

I believe he also said that it wasn't just his decision on the old forum to not add the womens only forum. on rivals. Perhaps things will be different here....

Read his post on why he created the basketball forum. I think you got to read his words as well in the situation. Remember he states he could create a womens forum fairly easily and it no extra cost, his words. The request in this thread was June 14th, plus other request prior. So ultimately this is fully his decision whether to do it or not. Then he throws out a threat that he will eliminate all the free boards. Again those are his words. Like I said, I used to really like the guy, even friends with him on facebook. This just seems really weird. I wasn't involved with the requests on Hawkeyereport. I just really enjoyed the womens forum on Hawkeyereport. Ultimately if he wants traffic, this traffic for this thread should count as well so I am getting a double advantage. Ultimately its not going to matter. This is the offseason you won't be able to manufacturer enough board posts for him to say, yeah I think we need one.

You make a solid argument Bunsen. I guess we'll just hope that a some point we'll see that womens forum. Certainly there is interest and if Jans team progresses this year and the next I'm sure there will be plenty of posts showing that interest and calling for its addition.....

Fine. You win. Lets just kick off this new site by going down these same rabbit holes. argue, argue, argue. Whatever. I'll leave you to it. I try to say just give it some time, and you think I took the guy out and dragged him behind my truck. You obviously have a need to build some ongoing controversy. I'll just let you do it alone. Enjoy......

If the decision to add the free women’s board or not is to be based on an analysis of traffic, then it could have been made a month ago and certainly could be made now: it was clear to anyone looking at Rivals that the board was highly trafficked, and it is clear ln this new board that there are vociferous postings about women’s BB. Indeed, were I just an Iowa Men’s and not women’s fan, I’d be annoyed as crap about that women’s BB traffic to the board. It is obvious now and was obvious months ago that the women’s board should exist based on traffic.

The business decision is a different story, and I respect that. I don’t know the business, but I suspect that the more specific the free boards are, the better they are for the user, and the less likely that user is to pay for what appears to be a strong, insider-info, decent journalism-based, premium board.

I respect the decision either way, but selfishly I want a free Women’s board…

I think there are advantages to keeping them together. I think people may stay connected to both programs (men and women) by having them combined. Or it could encourage someone to start reading about one of the programs that they haven't been reading about. If there's two boards, some people may just not go into one. Maybe people could label the threads with MBB: and WBB: in the subject to make it easier. I think some people are already doing that.

Since the request we are 6 days out. Do you really think anything is going to change? The reason the WBB forum worked so well is you didn't have the rifraf from the mens basketball or football forum. They are better posters.

There's another advantage of keeping the boards combined, the quality of the average poster will be greater.

Ok Tom. Might as well just smash all the forums into 1 forum SB.

I'm actually good with what ever happens. I see positives to both (separate or combined WBB and MBB). What I would like to see are tabs for WBB on the main menu.

I don’t know whether a WBB forum will be added or not, it’s all speculative at this point. Preemptively bitching about a decision not yet made is sort of futile IMO.

The 30 day timeframe does seem arbitrary. I do hope admins remain flexible because I don’t believe a significant increase in posting volume will happen until fall semester begins.

If you were going to do it, it would be easier to do it in the transition. Randomly saying you are going to do it 30 days later, and based on a metric that is not only hard to measure but also during the slow season seems as if they are predisposed to leaving it as it is and just trying to get individuals to let it go and say see this worked.

In true message board style might as well keep this thing going LOL. Maybe get it to 20 or 30 pages LOL.

Its sad that you have 50-100 posters who really found a community on the women's board and it just doesn't appear they want to try to create an accommodation for that group. Even though they state it would be incredibly easy and no extra money involved. It really makes no logical sense to me.

I’m in the camp to bring back the WBB too. How much can it cost?
He acted like money wasn't a consideration not to do it and that it would be easy to do, I specifically asked him those questions. But then said its a headache having to deal with individuals wanting the forum. Then the question is if you got individuals who want it, you are getting grief for not having something they have been used to, and some questioning that Tom never wanted a womens forum, it creates 1 question. Why not just create a the womens basketball forum? Seriously why wouldn't you do it. Instead they threaten to take the free boards away.

lol that’s the equivalent of going to the grocery store for a loaf of bread and learning that it’s been moved one isle over and then deciding to drive to another grocery store instead.

IF you’re truly interested you will return because r/IowaWBB does not have the articles and info that paid staff will provide and the message board contribution is better as well.
