He's 18, he doesn't understand or care about that nuance.
He better learn real quick. In a couple of months he's on the big stage with the lights turned on bright.
The guy asked him what he and Livingston were talking about what they planned to do when they got to Kentucky and his 2nd answer was "get out of there as soon as possible".
Wonder if his answer means that they are both thinking that way? If so, UK has two that could care less to be here.

Well, I have good news for you and so many others in this thread! Jerry Tipton will be sure to harass these kids mercilessly! He will ask them over and over if they are just moving toward the door the whole time they are here. We should be glad to have Jerry. He is on our side!

How dare a a player have aspirations to want to play in the NBA and to go to a school that allows those dreams to come true...FAR CAL!!!! I guess we don't want future NBA players anymore? POsters cry when talented athletes go to other schools and then we cry when we get players who are talented to want to play in the NBA...

It is pretty hilarious to see posters latch onto anything of significance in an attempt to further their agenda.
Derrick Miller was better than you

The people trying to put a shine on this **** are pathetic.

No shine at all. Jerry will do the work of this board. He will make sure the kids remember what they said and he will probably even harass their parents over it too! Jerry is the ally of this board now. He will make Cal's life even more miserable. Enjoy it while you can!

He was asked about him and Livingstons goals at UK and said "we want to go far into our college season and get out of there as soon as possible" LMAO UK has become a joke as far as whether our players even want to be here. I get that they all have dreams of playing in the NBA but my lord. About 3 min mark if you want to watch.

I would rather have an average team of players who want to be here instead of a team of players who openly state that they want out of here before they even get here. Heck, he doesn't even care enough about UK to even attempt to bring in players with him to help the TEAM AND THE UNIVERSITY win. This is what happens when a coach markets the program's NBA developmental success instead of its rich tradition.

Definitely not wise to say it especially with all that is going on with this program Right now .

I don’t really care since I figured that is how I believe most top recruits view college . He has a reputation for being a competitor and hard worker so at the end of the day hopefully that’s what he does while he’s here .
He's an 18 year old kid. I don't think he meant it near as bad as it sounds. The issue is the culture that Cal has created.

The Sharpe deal is only furthering that mentality. Now, only come for a semester and then bolt. Nothing good has come from the Sharpe situation.

Not only help the Team and university win games, but himself who will be on that team. The best players we’ve had here wanted to play alongside other great players for 2 main reasons. Winning was the most important aspect every time they stepped on the court and secondly they wanted to compete against these other great players day in and day out in practice to improve. Saying he hasn’t recruited anybody else because he isn’t a recruiter also pisses me off.

It simply means that he doesn't care enough to be competitive with his peers to have the better team. He simply stated he wants to go as far as he can into the season and then get out. I guess I should give him recognition for his honesty. He is simply responding to the pitch that landed him.

I don’t blame this young man for being honest about his goal of getting to the “league” as soon as possible. I suspect most, if not all of the elite players want to get to the pros as soon as possible. He could spin it better for the fans but he spoke the truth.

While this mindset is tough for fans to deal with you're kidding yourself if you don't think every top flight player shares the same sentiment.
Not at Duke. Those guys are bought in, playing for Duke, trying to win a title. They’re playing hard as hell. Not our guys.

Go ahead, criticize and take shots at me. This is our current reality, and the truth hurts.

I haven’t read through all 7 pages, but am I the only one that thinks he just misspoke and meant it as he wants to get out there (on campus) as soon as possible??

Weren't we laughing at them when they flamed out in the ACCT? We thought Coach K had lost the team.

I mean, yeah it's this. Most players won't just come out and say it, and many are coached to make it more palatable to fans. But don't kid yourself, every kid with a dream to make millions and play in the NBA would leave the second they felt they would be drafted in a position they were comfortable with.
But Cal said Sharpe is playing next year

Cal just reiterated what Sharpe and co said. If he really is a top 10 pick I don't see any reason why you risk that position with a possible injury or having a bad year like BJ Boston did.

Neither did Cal but he felt he had to create a narrative for the fan base that wasn’t about the reality of the situation. That is the nice way of putting it.

Which just reinforces that there is no good reason why Sharpe didn't play this year.
This has been discussed ad nauseum. And I don't see what you all wanted Cal to do. The initial discussion was to come on and train for a year with expectation he wasn't eligible for the draft. Turns out they were able to get a school to back date his credits or something to show he had graduated before the cutoff making him eligible. At that point what should Cal have done? The kid probably decided not to play since he was already projected highly and there was no reason to show any in game footage to scouts that might make him look worse. So Cal kicks him off the team when he publicly stated he'd be training for the next season? Demands he play and Shaedon just say's no thanks? That would have/may have been some serious drama to the team. I just don't see what Cal could have done any differently with publicly available info and we don't have all the info to make an informed opinion anyway.

So. Name one good basketball player that wants to stay in college if they have a chance to go in the first round of the NBA.

Well when the coach encourages it…
Cal wants the players to make the best financial decision for their future. I guess you think different about your kids. You would want them to stay in college and pass up millions to continue and wear the blue and white. Sure.

We’ve been kidding ourselves for the last 7 years. He’s done nothing but self promote and bastardize the greatest sports program in the World. We’ve been used, abused, misused, lied to, pawned since day 1. He’s mocked fans, he’s flippant with reporters, even the good ones. He’s arrogant, standoffish all the while flying around the Country on his Pat Myself of the Back tour when he should be busting his *** coaching and working. Eddie Sutton caught hell for what happened under his watch but he might have been the best “coach” in my lifetime. Calipari couldn’t coach a grade school girls basketball team to a church league title.

It’s perfectly fine to seize that opportunity if it’s presented to you after the season’s over.

But it is something different to state …before you’ve even stepped on campus …that your goal at UK is “to get out of there as soon as possible.” Most of us still wanna believe our recruits aspire to more with their time UK than just that.

But, hey, I’ll give the kid points for honesty. It’s obvious that quite many of our hotshot freshmen were thinking the same way …but they wouldn’t flat out say it like this.

It’s basic common sense to avoid making statements like this. I really hope his basketball IQ is more advanced. Not a good look, but it is what Cal has turned us into. Get in, get out. Anything else is failure.

They are not his kids and his responsibility is to his employer. He is delusional for thinking otherwise. Now that his high school recruiting has fallen off the cliff he is relying on the Portal- plug and tape. That is not building a consistent team that UK deserves.
