I don’t see the fit if Wheeler stays. But if he were to leave I would be fine taking a chance on Curbelo in a Mintz type backup guard role(point not shooting). The last transfer we took that had a good freshman season and then a disappointing sophomore season with huge expectations worked out pretty well!

Don’t know his game enough to have an idea, but isn’t he more of a wing? He’s 6-6 but his stats looks good.

Curbelo is a fantastically slick ballhandler in the open court …quite a highlight reel player.

But he can’t shoot worth **** and makes too many reckless mistakes. We’d have a lot of fun moments watching him, but can’t say he’s the guy we want running point at winning time.

Still, given his connection to Antigua (who recruited him to Illinois), I wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up at UK.

Trying to build a title team through the portal is going to be fool’s gold most of the time. We’ll never get another Oscar out of the portal. It should be to supplement a roster, not to try and throw something together last minute because recruit whiffs/mass exodus. Cal is relying on the portal so much because he has no choice.
