There have been so many players at UK the past 5 years that just aren't up to UK standards. Think of Cal's early teams. Or the 2017 team. We need these composite top 5 guys to win. Mintz, Toppin, and Keion Brooks starting are not going to get us to the final four. Saint peter's guards abused us. Mintz, Wheeler, Grady just aren't good enough. We need Ulis, Murray, Fox, Monk, Wall, Knight, Lamb. Not Askew, BJ, Green, Grady, Mintz. Cal needs to go out and get some talent this summer. While guys like Wheeler, Toppin, Brooks etc are good depth pieces they are not starting material. Sharpe, Wallace and Livingston are a step in the right direction.

Gotta Coach em up. Give ST PETES Coach those bust players and he is winning titles. Give CCC St Pete players and he is retired in Nashville

Yes. Any team can get hot. But you put Banchero, Hardy, and Wall out there and they aren't losing that game.

He can’t recruit the elite high school kids- losing time and time again to Duke. The portal is not going to offset.

It actually all comes down to being able to develop players. We have only had a few since Cal has been here that have gotten better year over year. In fact, many have regressed.

And that is...... are you ready for it?

SHOT BLOCKING.
Thats it. The only reason we're losing. The only reason the last few years have been off. Lack of dominant shot-blocking. A defense built around shot-blocking.
Give can kinda coach Cal couple shot blockers and I'll give you a national championship.

100% fun fact: the 2012 team holds the record for the most blocks in a season in the history of the sport.
The 2022 team holds the record for the least amount of blocks for Calipari the entire time at the coach at Kentucky.


I wonder what cant coach cal is going to change in the offseason? Shot-blocking if he can get Brazil (2 blocks a game) from LSU. that's his first shot blocker. Then he'll need one more and he'll be ready. I know how he operates and I know exactly what he's going to do. BRING BACK SHOT BLOCKING

Yes it comes down to recruiting. Let's not start acting like St. Peter's is some great team. They got incredibly hot at the right time with a little bit of March sprinkled in. Play this tournament 100 times and this is the only time St. Peter's gets this far, and that's what makes runs like this so fun.

Cal Can’t Coach. He can’t develop a turd to float. He can’t recruit anymore either, he’s got 2 fringe blue chip Oad’s coming in and Duke wanted neither.

He’s now interested in 3 star TRANSFERS. The same guys the Cal brigade said aren’t any good because they’re “still in college”.

He’s a bum. We’re going to suck until he’s out. Period.

Cason Wallace is composite top 5 and had the best EYBL out of anyone. He is legit.

He’ll suck when he’s here. He won’t be able to shoot, he’ll be played out of position on offense and defense, rinse repeat. I doubt he’s even a Poythress level freshman. Cals evaluation has been worse than anything recently. He had no idea Oscar would be this good thats one of the reasons we’re so thin. He expected him back. It’s got nothing to do with him.

Just wait. We’ll all be saying “just sag off Wallace and bait him into taking a bad shot he can’t hit”. We’re going to go through the same nonsense we’ve been going through. And all of the focus will be on him because it will be a team of hodgepodge transfers who’ve never even played together. Cals lazy and doesn’t want to put the time in.

We've been hearing a lot about players being legit, and rarely seeing it lately.

Of course that was before Duke and K went the one and done route and started out recruiting Kentucky.

Maybe but we also had Jackson last year who was great at that skill. You win in March with guards. Lamb and Teague were lights out. Knight was great. The Harrisons. Fox. Guards run this tournament and mostly have the last 20 years.

Whitney and Fletcher didn't work out. Juzang and Matthews went elsewhere and excelled. High school all Americans are not going to sit on the bench here, so why try to load up on 4 or 5 every year when only 5 can play at a time. If you have a couple transferring ever other year sooner or later it's going to cost you. You are not going to get much playing time here with Cals tight rotations and lack of developing a bench, Now you have Kentucky boys leaving because of no playing time, there are several reasons he's not getting the kind of player he needs. I'm sure other coaches are pointing this out in recruiting wars.
