IF Cal left, who would you want?

Scott Drew. He’s youngish, early 50’s and has built quite a nice program at Baylor and has FF experience. We can pay through the nose at Kentucky. I think he could kill it here. Other than that, Voegel at LA. He’s probably tired of the Bron Bron drama and has Kentucky ties. There’s probably another NBA coach out there that might want to jump. The options are slim but I just want some energy injected back in this program again.

Scott Drew and he takes the job in a New York minute are you kidding me
Probably makes 3 million @ Baylor
Will make 7.5 to 8 at UK
Get him now - let’s play modern ball 4 out 1 in with a 4 man who is a triple threat player

Frank Vogel. UK connection and the players that worked with him while at UK love him. I’m no fan of the NBA but I think he knows a thing or two about their game as well.
It would be cool if Dwayne Casey wasn’t essentially blackballed. He’s a good coach. He won nba coach of the year with the Raptors a few years ago.

Yep. Plus, if they win a title, that’s a wrap. Tubby is the only coach who left a place where he won a championship to directly go coach another college team.
True, Honestly, if I was a top coach, Arizona might be literally my top choice to coach. Great Fan support, not too many unrealistic expectations, the state of Arizona and Tuscon being amazing, playing in a weak conference but still a P5. As long as he keeps it up there he is probably in heaven over there.

No.
When it was reported that IU offered big dick Stevens $70M over 10 years he told a Boston radio station that he was not offered that much.
To get Stevens, we would have to offer him a $100M contract with a significant portion guaranteed. That won’t happen.

Building a dynasty? People have lost their minds on this board. First Oates, then Holtman, now Lloyd. Another flavor of the month. It’s getting comical
This isn't about what he will or won't do at Arizona. It's about what he thinks he can do at Arizona. There's no doubt he's been incredibly successful at Arizona and has a history of success and an assistant at Gonzaga.

Assuming, like every coach does, he believes he will be successful at Arizona, why would he think to himself "I'm going to throw away this foundation that already has me as a favorite to win the title at a tier 2 or 1B job to start all over again at a tier 1A job where the expectations are higher"?

I really don't know if he would. Is there a single successful NBA head coach in the last 20 years that's returned to college? It's not about not wanting to come to Kentucky. It's about not wanting to go back to coaching college.

Tommy Llyod (although I think it is pretty unlikely he comes here), Mark Few, Scott Drew. And then the next group of guys include guys like Pearl and Musselman.
Tommy Lloyd is making 2.9 million a year at Arizona. Would they match what we would pay? Would it matter?

I truly can’t come up with anyone who stands out as a favorite to me. Just not any clearly outstanding up and comers.
That’s the issue for me right now. It seems like there used to be more obvious, realistic targets. I’m sure the right guy is out there but I’m not sure who he is and Mitch Barnhart probably isn’t either.

My fear is the new Florida hire as well as Payne at UL are both successful and we get further behind. Sometimes you just have to make changes. As for who, I don't know but successful coaches that could thrive here are out there you just can't be afraid to make the change.

Barnhart may concern me more than lack of elite candidates. He doesn’t exactly have a strong track record of basketball hires. Truth be known he was outside the Calipari hire. Of course he was in the middle of the lifetime contract. SMH.

Sampson has been to 2 final fours on his own. I’d say he‘d be substantially better than the tubster. I suspect age would be an issue though.
Sampson is a great coach and if he could have kept his phone in his pocket Indiana probably would have had a very successful 15 years.

I don't think Brad Steven's is the coach anymore, I think he's President. Could be wrong but thought Celtics hired a new coach. And no we do NOT want Chris Beard!!

Scott Drew, Mark Few and Jay Wright have to be on the top of the list. Although I seriously doubt either would leave but you at least have to make the call.

Pearl is a back stabbing cheating POS. I don’t want him anywhere near the UK b-ball program.

Does Brad Stevens have any desire to get back into college coaching? My gut says probably not but certainly worth a try.

I think Frank Vogel would be worth considering. UK tied and NBA connections.

But let’s be honest, there’s 9 million reasons Cal ain’t going anywhere.

True , but Calipari has 2 vacated final fours and he’s our coach now .
I'm not knocking him for the violations. I don't even think they are violations anymore. I mean he got forced out at given a show cause for them. If he was able to stay at Indiana he would have been very successful there.
