You knew they would lose? Yeah oldest team since 1958 yet you had to say ''we lost bc we are young.'' Built in excuses.
Cal's a wench.

When it's a freshmen team it's "We're young."

When it's a veteran team of transfers it's "We haven't played on this stage before."

What will it be next year when they lose in the 2nd round?

"We've never been to the second round before."

Shaheen knew that too since his university hadn't been to the tournamnent since 2011.

Since he didn't have a NPOY candidate at the 5.

Since he doesn't have a lotto pick in his back court.

Since he doesn't have a consensus top 10 pick on his bench wasting away under the ruse that he will play here next year (watch the spin turn to how we reacted to this loss instead of the original plan of being surprised he would get drafted at all).

Since he doesn't have the multi-million dollar facilities we have.

But, yeah, a lack of experience (YOU STARTED A PLAYER THAT IS 24 YEARS OLD AND BROUGHT ANOTHER 24 YEAR OLD OFF THE BENCH) is really the issue.

Cal's broken, he thinks this is one of his regular teams.

"I knew, because these guys HAVEN'T BEEN HERE BEFORE, I would have to..."

Good GAWD!

Here comes the spin...
Who is responsible for that? It's a lame excuse.

Reality is that this team was good, never great and away from Rupp ended up .500 at 8-8. I saw them as closer to losing in this round than making any Final Four. Had to say I had them losing in Sweet 16 in my bracket but this isn't shocking. It's a team lacking elite talent and Cal has to have elite talent to win. It's okay to say that.

Now how do things progress from there? I've said it for 2 yrs now--AD needs to meet fans request and demand some things--and it starts with little things (uniforms) and bigger issues (going to Maui again, etc..) and if that's not suitable for Cal, he needs to go. At some point you can't alienate and even worse infuriate your fanbase. This used to be all about CBB and why I came to board and now more UK fans get excited about Stoops and UK Football then basketball. What has happened? Only BBN can answer but this end to the year and the comments aren't going to do anything to make fans feel better.

I stopped listening to his press conference years ago.

It's not insightful. He relies on the same old canards as retorts to legitimate questions. Perhaps the most obnoxious is that he will pick a player and dump on them. I always wondered if Willis and Allen playing well actually upset him. They have a good game and the first comment is dumping on their defense.

Yeah, it's inexcusable to blame our loss, even in part, on NCAA nerves. We just got outplayed.

I highly doubt this. Cal has had elite talent and not won unless you're solely referring to Davis/MKG. He lost to Bruce Weber/Pearl with three NBA players in his lineup.

As I've said elsewhere, he just isn't a good X's and O's coach anymore because he's become incredibly stubborn. He wants to play a certain way (conservative, back to the basket, shun the 3, shoot 15 footers off the drive) damned if everyone else plays differently.

Man, thank God. I KNEW that was it. I mean we’re not a national championship program with 8 titles or anything.
Keep living vicariously in the past because that is all we have, and it is all we have to look forward to if you are content with this mess.

At some point, he has to realize he's the problem right? I mean wisconsin, Evansville, Robert Morris, Richmond, 9-16, Wva and now this?
You have to be a complete moron to walk around thinking it's anyone elses fault.
The guy is a fraud and UK fans deserve better.
Don't look now but the moron line is getting longer and longer.

Think that's fair, but at least that '18 team won the SEC Tournament and if you remember they were seen as the team would look like the '21 team did early in year--a young/FR dominated team but not elite of the elite FR--SGA turned out great and Knox had moments but they weren't the '10/12/14/'15 caliber of team.

Agree with your take on his stubborn approach and BS about slowing his teams down but let's face it-this was an awful roster of old guys who never did anything on any team in NCAA's and it's 2 best players had a guy play NPOY caliber ball which carried them and was on cusp of turning it on and got significantly hampered by severe leg/ankle injuries. Never was same and he was key to the entire team. Rest of these guys would be bench guys on a team that UK should be putting on the court.

You have either bumped your head or you know nothing about basketball. You offer up that sorry excuse as if the team that just beat UK is loaded with future NBA players.

2 of Dickie V’s FF picks are out.

Cal can’t survive this Double Quarter with Cheese loss, can he? Cal has to go! Rebuild, restock, restore, it doesn’t matter! The Cal experiment is over. Curtains 💯

Again, vehemently disagree. The same 5 dudes that lost tonight enjoyed a 30 point blasting of UNC (who just made it to the 2nd round by waxing Marquette), KU by 18 at Phogg (their worst loss there in quite some time) and beat UT by a billion as well.

Oscar is our best player but let's not act like the league isn't about to draft Tyty (and inevitably his game will change when he isn't being mentally barraged by his coach just like every other guard that moves onto the league). Grady would have started on nearly any team he went to this year, we just didn't know how to use him. Wheeler, when Cal isn't trying to speed him up even more, was the best Assist/TO PG in the SEC at Georgia, but is a spazz here for some reason?

Injuries played a role but we should have beat St. Peters with Oscar, Grady, Zan Payne, Mintz and a cardboard cutout at the fifth spot if our coach actually, ya know, coached.

You stated that someone would have to be a moron. Unfortunately, there are a lot of morons based on the number of excuses that are showing up for why this program has been substandard for way too long.
