If Sharp goes to the NBA

He recruited the players. He (allegedly) coaches the players. He motivates the players. Prepares them mentally.

With all due respect, your post is about as dumb as somebody saying Rick Pitino shouldn’t be held responsible for HOOKERS IN THE DORM.
Guys like him aren't real fans. They are casual fans with an IQ just barely above room temperature.

Sharpe better FN stay but even still the fact that the #1 ranked guy isn't good enough to play for your team this year ? I mean WTF we probably could have used his shooting the past 9 games when we went 5-4

I think if Sharpe goes NBA then Cal has no business on a Kentucky sideline any longer. The Coach at UK should care more about winning and losing at Kentucky than how many players he can send to the NBA.

I wouldn't stay. Cal probably hurt his draft stock for coaching him in practice.
This had to be a Sharpe decision. If it's Cal's then he needs to go. This is about the best interest of the team otherwise why even play. Sharpe was possibly the best player in the country and should have led the way for us

Dude I don’t even want sharpe back after this. Any kid that can do what he did, screw him. Not to mention I’ve read there’s controversy surrounding him that’s not public. He’s gone. Bank on it.
Well, but if he comes back then he kept his original word. Workout this year and prepare for next year. If he goes, then get pissed at him.

I don’t give a damn about his word. He came and did Jack **** and watched us take our worst loss ever while making bank and getting a Porsche. Screw him.

Or possibly the 50th best player or 100th. We do not know.
True but, looking at the tape he was different. Definitely the most athletically gifted and can create shots along with being the top recruit. At worst he would have been our second best player.

Cal needs to answer to this. I've always been a Cal supporter but, not in this case. There is no reason for Sharp to come here if he's not going to play. He better play next year or Cal will get run out of town. If we had Sharp we are a top seed and still playing and that's not right.
Cal counting $$ and draft picks...don't care about anything else.

Something odd to me.. why the hell hasn't Sharpe declared yet. I mean, not even a "I'm testing the waters, but no agent" sort of thing. Not trying to get my hopes up, but for someone we all thought was a goner, and who didn't play a single game, how come his decision wasn't immediate?

My theory is Cal is hoping like heck Oscar announces hes coming back then you will hear he announces he is going, but hopefully the blowback will be muted with Oscars announcement. Cal knows very well this Sharpe debacle is a major issue with the fanbase and it will not end well.

I've heard that theory.. and maybe it's true. But IDK if it would matter.. Fans are going to be pissed that Sharpe never played no matter WHAT positive news comes with it. I also don't think having Sharpe linger helps the situation at all either: It's going to make fans more upset, recruits aren't sure about PT, Sharpes family probably wants to get to a resolution, etc.

Maybe Cal is working on trying to get him to stay.. Maybe Sharpes camp is going to stay true to their word, and have him play a year of college instead of trying their luck being drafted and not having played last year (which could ruin his career, IMO).

Respectfully, serious question: Have there been any players, top picks or otherwise, that we know of that Cal has tried to get to stay in all the years he's been coaching here? Maybe there have been some that I was not aware of.

No idea. But we are in a different time than in 2013, or 2016, or even in 2019. Cal can't keep forcing kids to the NBA and using the model he's used that worked so well up until recently. Not to mention Sharpe is a different case entirely: he never played.

Cal's model of "getting kids to the NBA" only works if he has a job.

Also, I've never been fully convinced that Cal cares THAT much about simply getting kids to the NBA, where everything else is a distant second. I've always believed it was more of a sales pitch, and something he could "sell" to recruits to get them to come here, help UK win, and have this system feed us recruits the following year. To me, Cal was smart about this, and made a system that that most of the time, could do both: Help kids to the NBA and in turn, make teams that can win in March.

If he loses Sharpe, not only is that another nail in his coffin here at UK, but not securing him for next year could mean the difference between a 25-win/Sweet16 year.. or a 32-win/Final-4 year. And I'm very confident Cal knows this.
