LOL , we were typing the same thing at the same timeWith a top 10 pick sitting on his *** looking in a mirror admiring his hair and refusing to play, added with the NPOY double double machine, and another lottery pick at guard, any “fan” that’s saying ANYTHING less than a FF is an absolute woke snowflake b**ch!
Yeah, you are, deal with it. UK “fan”![]()
Totally think that Sharpe is overrated. With a top 10 pick sitting on his *** looking in a mirror admiring his hair and refusing to play, added with the NPOY double double machine, and another lottery pick at guard, any “fan” that’s saying ANYTHING less than a FF is an absolute woke snowflake b**ch!

This is a great question. One of the few threads where I'll probably read every response to get a sense of how realistic/reasonable people here actually are. What will it take for you to call it a successful season? I say anything less than elite 8 is a fail.
This is exactly where I am as a fan. Every word of it, honestly. Hadn't connected why I wasn't as hyped about 2017 but you pieced that together for me - it was probably too close to the shattering impact of 2015.This season has been the most enjoyable one for me of any season since 2015 (Though the Monk/Fox/Bam team was close).
Like many UK fans, my life-long fandom was "broken" by the ending of 2015. The 2017 team was great but it was still so close to the hangover from 2015 to really enjoy it (to a lesser degree, the 2019 elite eight team was the same). After the insane excitement and success of the first half decade of the Cal era, we were all drunk off the success, which culminated in the best first-38-games season of my lifetime ending as a "failure" and MEGA disappointment. It was impossible to get hyped for lesser teams in the following years.
In some way, perhaps last year's debacle was a palate cleanser of sorts? After hitting rock bottom, it's been much more enjoyable to watch this solid team all season. More than any other year before 2010, it feels like the first couple decades of my life as a fan: we have a good team, we have likable veteran players, we're (probably?) not going to win it all (bc winning it all is VERY hard to do), but we have a team that's capable of doing it and it's fun to watch and root for them to see if it happens.
It really helps that we have the NPOY and a new all-time top 3 favorite player for me (along with Anderson and MKG) who it's impossible to not root for.
So....... I would largely say that this season has already been a success. But. A final four (or championship) would go a LOOOOOOOOOONG way toward injecting some excitement and satisfaction into this fanbase, myself included.
That's how I feel. Which is why I carefully worded my reply to say it will be a disappointment if they don't make the Final Four without saying it will be a failure. Failure is too strong. I would say not advancing past the Sweet 16 would be a failure, though. This is a great question. One of the few threads where I'll probably read every response to get a sense of how realistic/reasonable people here actually are.
After last season, getting to the Elite 8 should - objectively - be a success for UK/Cal. He revamped the roster and the coaching staff. Mixing transfers and so many new pieces is NOT EASY for any team/organization/etc. He's done that well. (He has plenty of experience doing so.)
That said, this is UK and a huge portion of the UK fan base will probably consider it a failure to not make the Final Four. I'll be extremely disappointed if this group doesn't make it .... but I won't call it a failure if they lose in the Elite 8. Unless, of course, the bracket opens WIDE up and they're playing a 6/7/10/11 seed or something as a 1 or a 8/9 seed as a 2 in the Elite 8. There's a big difference.
It was a failure when Knox/PJ/Shai's team lost to Kansas State without their best player. It was a failure when Herro/Keldon couldn't close out Auburn in the Elite 8.
This is a good take. Comes with some hard truths about our roster/coach.Kinda agree.
The thing that holds me back is how beatable this team can be to a less than powerhouse opponent.
Our NPOY is not a rim protector.
Our Cousy finalist is 5'8 and a streakey at best shooter.
Our 4 men can be Charmin soft at times
Can TyTy take over a game against EE or FF type comp?
All in all we're pretty damn good but i think a good coach with 6 seed level talent could drop us.
Yes, agreed with all of the above. Had this discussion in another thread that was started a few weeks ago about this being "Cal's 3rd best team at UK." The guy was saying this team was better than 2009-2010 because that team didn't have a "knock down shooter and that's what cost us in the tournament." That's easy to say in hindsight after it DID cost us in the tournament, but that team could have still won it all. We could be saying at the end of this one that the reason this team lost is because we just didn't have that one dynamic player that could just completely take over a game when he has to. We have a lot of good players and a fun team to watch when they're playing well together and clicking, but I have my concerns about what happens when we get in a tight one late in March. Who just takes over the game if we need them to? I don't know that we have that guy (well ... maybe we do, but he refuses to play ... but also he could be BJ Boston, we'll never know)This is a good take. Comes with some hard truths about our roster/coach.
UK can win it all this year. That's what I really expect as a fan of UK basketball. Be in a position to be able to pull it off. Partly why last year was so terrible. Knew after 2-3 games that roster was sh*t and didn't have the pieces to do it after seeing Boston/Sarr as our featured combo. That said, this team is susceptible to losing in round 2 if Grady can't get open or isn't hitting his threes, if Ty Ty is complacent, and Oscar is in foul trouble.
If Oscar had a pogo stick next to him who can swat shots and defend, I'd be a lot more confident. Oscar gets torched by legit bigs who have 2" or more on him. That's a fact.
And I have yet to be inspired to believe Ty Ty can demand the ball and take over a game. Title teams need that guy. Think Kemba Walker, Shabazz Napier, Davion Mitchell last year .... you have to have a big bucket in March, who's it going to be? A guy that can create, beat his man, and knock it down.
I'd go with this. I want to see them with some hardware of some kind. I'm not going to say title (or final four) or bust for these guys.SECT title and Sweet Sixteen is a successful season.
SECT loss plus elite 8 is a success too.
You would. Mr negative. You must be a blast at parties. What will it take for you to call it a successful season? I say anything less than elite 8 is a fail.
It’s been 10 years, I need a championship. If we go to FF and come up short, you look back a few years after and reminisce, but as of right now, it’s ‘Ship or bust.
You WANT a championship. You do not need anything as UK winning or losing has no real impact on your day to day life (at least it shouldn't).
We have had gaps of 20 years, 18 years, and 14 years between titles the past 60 years so it could be much much worse than 10 years. I expect UK will win a title sometime this decade based on historical averages post 1958.
It’s a weird thing that’s become popular here lately, and that’s to remind people of how they should care less. Can we just all agree on the front end that nothing that happens in a UK basketball game affects whether or not I have to pay my mortgage.Stop with the weird ****. We’re fans this is how fans talk. Quit with the “but but you don’t NEED anything” ********. You sound stupid every time you do it in all of these threads. @BigKari wants a title so do I so do a lot of fans because this is UK. We’re not going to stop in every post to remind everyone we’re not actually players. It’s time for Cal to get a second ring.
And I don’t care about the past we’re not BOUND to it. Plenty of teams win a few in a few years. UNC won 2 or 3 fairly quick. It happens.
Good God man, enough quit that stupid sht.
I like when fans like you point out the droughts between titles. You WANT a championship. You do not need anything as UK winning or losing has no real impact on your day to day life (at least it shouldn't).

LC, I guess I don't understand why I should care about Sharpe. If one of the 4 really good Guards were out for the season, then yeah I would think UK needs another Guard. But a reclassified junior comes in for the last half of the season and I'm supposed to think he would be better than one or all of the 4 Guards. Absolutely not. I want our 4 Guards healthy (which as far as I know, they are) and Sharpe to sit on bench out of the way. If plays next year great, but we don't need him now - and I couldn't care less if he was the #1 ranked high school junior or #1 ranked middle-schooler. But that's me.With Sharpe on the bench, can you blame them?
It must be fun believing in Santa.I feel sorry for the people who are on this Sharpe train. It must be really hard to accept that he couldn't beat out our 12th man Dontaie who is shooting 18.9% from 3. This is why he is not playing. Nothing else.
And what was said in that meeting with his parents is something No One Knows but I know how basketball works. If you are a 100% healthy, eligible to play and not playing is because you can't beat the people out that are. Have you even seen Sharpe play? Go watch highlights. He is not ready to play against SEC teams. It must be fun believing in Santa.
Don’t you remember the tweet from Cal that he announced he wasn’t going to play? Very clearly he said it was after meeting with Sharpe’s people. He was hinting at Sharpe playing until Sharpe’s people shut it down. I don’t believe you even believe what you just said.
LOL … here’s a guy that still believes Sharpe will be here next year in spite of being projected as a lottery pickAnd what was said in that meeting with his parents is something No One Knows but I know how basketball works. Next year he will hopefully. Personally I think Cason Wallace will be a better college player
And you are believing that something is going to happen that has never ever happened before. I don't live my life in your negative mind set. I certainly won't put the blame on the family or our coaches if he leaves. This is all about the NBA. I do know this, if he was good enough to help us, he would be playing. That is the simple truth. Well … a projected top 10 pick in the draft has also never returned to school under Cal. So no matter which direction this goes, it’ll be something that has never happened before. And you are believing that something is going to happen that has never ever happened before.
