Looks like #1 and #2 prospect, plus MLB player in return.

Good haul, but I'm with you ... wtf?

Was hoping to be competitive by 2017-18 with a higher payroll, but that hardly looks attainable now. Where the hell will the offense come from?

Exactly which part of Simmons' offense will you miss so greatly? The .256 average? The .362 slugging? He's 25 years old now with not much to hang his out on offensively. He's not likely to improve much at the plate at this point. Get a good haul for him and hope the prospects pan out. About the best you can hope for. Trust me. My team's been there.

Simmons had the third highest WAR (3.2) for shortstops in baseball this year. He was -11.7 on offense which was in the bottom half but was far and away the best defensive shortstop at +23.9 with Brandon Crawford and Addison Russell second at 17.1 defensively.

This isn't the first trade, either. In the big picture, I just don't seen enough offense in the pipeline or the deals for the team to be competitive within 2-3 years, and that's going to suck. Hope they prove me wrong.

As great as his D was, which was awesome, they can find another SS to handle that spot. Just might not be as "flashy". His hitting was pretty bad and shows no signs of getting better. We came out on the good end of this deal. JMHO
