I apologize if this thread or poll exists, but I am going on record to say that Sharpe plays for the Cats next year. What do you all think? I will eat crow if wrong and I'm still alive come next October.

If he plays this year no he’s gone for sure. Next year? Maybe it’s 50/50 it all depends on whether his handler Washington is honest. To him it’s about sharpe playing in college to learn some things before the nba so he has a long career. Check out the article in the athletic written yesterday. I give the handler benefit of the doubt and say 50/50 if he doesn’t play this season. Handler sounds confident that sharpe will excel once he hits the floor this year or next. So it sounds like he’s ready.

I’m bummed it appears he won’t play this year, but he’s projected top ten in the draft next year. There’s zero reason he should come back. I don’t even understand the rationale.

You can tell he’s not gonna play here. He hasn’t gotten out of his warm-up pants and he has yet to clap for his “teammates” on the bench.

I think the rationale is try not to piss the fans off too much until he’s out of town. If Cal or Sharpe’s people came out and said he wasn’t planning to play for UK and was just using it as a stepping stone (scholarship, NIL money, opportunity cost of recruiting another player at the position for next season, etc) fans would be irate and Sharpe would still be here.

My guess is Cal is hoping for a deep enough tourney run for the fans to be ok when Sharpe announces he’s going to the draft.

But I think if he announced today he was never playing here and was just training for the NBA, peoples heads would explode.

He actually has taken his warm-up pants off during games. It has been the buzz at Rupp the last two games. It’s been hilarious.

Last night he started the game with the pants tucked into his socks. Then after the first time out they were untucked. At the 4 minute mark the pants came off. I’m serious about the buzz. Everyone was commenting on it.

Two minutes left in the first half, up 16 and both guards in foul trouble and in comes Sharpe, nope Hopkins lol. UK calls a timeout with 47 seconds left to run an offense set, you could literally tell Sharpe exactly what to do in a one play scenario, Cal doesn’t put him in. UK has one final possession on offense, Cal puts in Allen for Hopkins. Just not gonna happen guys!

There’s a better chance of sharpe hitting the portal and playing elsewhere next year than ever playing a minute for UK. He is 100% going to the NBA. Those who try and and rationalize if his handlers are being honest route need only see how his draft eligibility scenario played out.

He was never playing here and cal knew that which I have a huge problem with.

And he has clapped and cheered his teammates. He is just not someone like Ware that is running up and down the sidelines like he is in the mosh pit at a heavy rock concert. Not that I do not find it funny and like Ware's passion.

Clearly his handlers investigated his eligibility for the draft, his time at UK is clearly to get his name out there and get him some NIL money before the draft!

He's not playing this year or next year, he's prepping for the draft. Already projected top 10 pick, based on every data point from Cal's tenure, there's absolutely nothing that points to this kid coming back next year.

I voted no, as it appears obvious to me anyway that he's only using UK and will never play a minute here. I hope like hell I'm wrong and he plays next year, as I just don't see Cal working him into the rotation at this point, ( if he ever was to begin with).

He's not going to play here this season, or next season. He will go into the draft. If he played this season it would only hurt his draft stock. Unfortunately, like many before him, he is not as good as advertised. The coaches see it and he sees it after playing with the level of talent currently at UK. This is why he will not step foot on the court this season. I don't blame him at all, it's a smart move.

It’s funny to see the way we change our positions to rationalize away these things.

A couple months ago folks here were raving about how he was the greatest prospect Cal had ever recruited …or, at the very least, the best since AD …and a future Kobe-like superstar. But now that’s devolving into “meh, he’s not that good anyways…”

Meanwhile, we’ve still not seen him play a single game, so neither side really has anything factual to base their claims on.

We gone from prognostication and soothsaying to downright emphatic guarantees.

Just enrolled early to collect that NIL money and bolt after the season.

And Cal fell for the bait. His handler is full of ****, and just trying to disguise it.

I bet part of the deal was he would get part of the NIL check.

There is no chance Sharpe transfers in the portal and plays for another college team next year. What on earth would ever give you that idea? Step away from the rage for a second to observe reality

Might want to re-read that post. He’s saying there’s a better chance he would transfer before playing for UK…which both are zero because he then says it’s 100% he’s going to the NBA.

If draft stock was all that mattered, why did he even come here?

It makes no sense. He could have been coached by guys affiliated with the NBA had he chosen G-League.

Did he just want to use the NIL and fly under the radar, or did something change? It's not like NBA scouts weren't onto him before he came to Kentucky.

My best guess would be there were some concerns on draft eligibility or as a few guys have done here, he thought he would get more pop going to a Coach Cal team. There’s no denying some guys have made a lot of money and fooled some NBA executives riding the coattails of Cal as their coach

I don’t think the G-League Ignite program offers a “join at mid-season” option. They sign all their guys before the close of summer. Sharpe hadn’t even decided to re-classify yet at that point, and didn’t graduate from HS until the end of December, after it was too late to exercise the G-League option.

UK offered the best option for someone in his mid-season re-class situation. Cal let him join late in January, he’s making a boatload of NIL money for doing nothing here, and he’s eligible for this year’s draft. It’s a win, win, win situation for him. Not so much for us.

You should be eating crow now, considering what you said about being short on guards, considering that TyTy is hobbled and has been for 2 weeks.
you are a clown. We aren't short on guards. While we are starting to play 3 at a time, we look good and not sure where another would go. Are you just a miserable person? People like you make me wish the internet didn't exist.

It was hyperbole. Sorry if went over your head. Sharpe will be in the NBA next year, that was the plan from day 1.

I say yes as a guess that would be popular. I don't think he ever will return next year. Too much $$$$ involved.

I can hear Adam Silver now…

“And with the 6th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select…Shaedon Sharpe, from the end of the bench, at the University of Kentucky!” 🤣
Has any player ever been drafted after not playing a single second of college basketball while being eligible to do so? I know some have not played much due to injury (Kylie Irving comes to mind), but don’t think anyone will have ever fallen into sharpes scenario.
