Is this illegal or not?

I really don’t see why that would be a violation. The team buys food for their players all the time.

Coaches host dinners all the time too. I’m sure they don’t charge an admission fee. Now if it’s a recruit that’s different.

It is a violation, but with all that is on UL’s plate (pun intended) the NCAA would laugh at it. Very minor and probably done everywhere.

Who cares?

We now live in a new era. It's hard to believe coaches got in trouble in the past for stupid **** like hosting a BBQ or like that Ohio State OB who got free tats. That stuff is chump change now. It is tinier than chump change. Now with NIL, what used to be considered high level cheating is now legitimate. It is all above board now. Have any of you paid attention to what went on with this past College Football recruiting season? We are talking about top recruits being promised million dollar figures. I heard Texas A&M arranged for over 10 million dollars to be paid out for their recent recruiting class.

If Mitch, Cal, and Stoops are getting together with top boosters and top corporate donors in order to get organized with these NIL deals, then they aren't doing their jobs and will get left in the dust by competitors.

For the 1000th time, Bruce Pearl was not found guilty and fired from UT for a BBQ. I agree with everything else.

Seems like a trivial violation if it is a violation at all. We got hit during the Tubby years for some players being treated to a meal at Joe Bologna's and that place was banned for UK players to go to for years. That didn't even involve coaches but NCAA looked into it. Wouldn't say it's illegal but might be just a very minor violation.
The Joe B’s thing was different. That was the restaurant comping meals to the players. That’s against NCAA rules. I’m sure if a coach wants to buy a kid a meal there might be some restrictions on monetary value, etc. I’m sure their bill at Wagner’s was less than 20 bucks. Might be different if they went to a dinner at Jeff Ruby’s. That’s just my hunch. I don’t have it in me to look it up.

Don’t work like that. Tough guy talk is all fine and good. However the NCAA has used minor crap before to get their foot in the door. The cheating scumbag Pearl opened the door with a barbecue and they ripped his ***.
That was for a recruit.

Please share your opinion and why on this:
This morning I took the guys who work for me to Wagners in Louisville for breakfast. This is next door to Churchill Downs for those not from Louisville.
While eating we witnessed something that carried over into somewhat an argument. The guys who work for me at UL fans and they think I feel the way I do only because I am a UK fan. Here is what we saw:
A basketball player from UL was with a coach from UL eating. When they finished the coach paid the bill. The player never tried to pay, nothing. It was like he either expected it or was used to being treated this way. I said that was illegal, that a coach can not buy breakfast for one player alone and not provide this for any other student.

You could just imagine how this conversation went from there. I could not resist telling them over and over how UL just can not help themselves when it comes to cheating. Some people are hooked on drugs or alcohol but UL seems to fascinated with cheating.

Who is right on this?

If I am wrong, I will own up to it.

Share your thoughts everyone.
Thanks

Since they never took away all those titles from ucla what Wooden cheated on, did nothing to north carolina for running the biggest academic scandel in the history of college basketball, let Oklahoma State play in the ncaa tournamet last year, are doing nothing to Kansas, and have Auburn ranked number 1 while on probation, the ncaa might as well have no rules at all. At least that would stop them from punishing small schools for meaningless so called violations, and letting these big school off scott free. No rules would be better than the ncaa's selective enforcement.

It's a stupid rule, and ordinarily we shouldn't care.

But the real question is, would the NCAA gig UK if we did it?

Well now you use university lawyers to tell them to F off, they have no leg to stand on now. You could say well X player has a NIL deal with the Denny’s and gets a free grand slam a day as part of it lol. I paid the tip.

Several million in legal fees over a Dennys dinner. Must be some hamburger.

Wouldn’t be hard, they wouldn’t spend their time or money going after that. One letter would be all it would take. Just the threat of fighting them will work now and I’m sure they have salaried lawyers on staff they could use.

I highly doubt the NCAA will be pursuing cases like that any longer. Look at LSU punishment, Auburn, Kansas. Crickets and a bunch of nothing when they did rule.
The meal infraction is against an individual. Yeah, they pressure those. Further, they are know to use small infractions as an excuse to uncover and persuade bigger ones. Like I said, get real.

Ok, let me know the next time a major school faces a meal infraction please.

Why would I even bother? Go cheat if you want. Steal food from McDonald’s. Give it to NIL players flush with cash. This is America. Your right to be stupid. If and when you get caught, I will just laugh.

Point is why take a chance on such a minor thing. That’s U6 and Auburn thinking. Both on probation at the moment over stupidity.

Everything is legal unless you get caught. Like a lawyer add I saw on a billboard stated just because you done it don’t mean you’re guilty.
