Fitz has really nice touch on his long throws.

Staley will need a phenomenal off season to take qb1 from him.

He's also shown a pretty solid ability to tuck it, run, and make guys miss. Reminds me of what Dak used to look like with the ball in his hands

Quality qb depth is a problem I could get used to.

I like that fitz will challenge deep. On both of fitz's 2 long td passes both receivers were covered, but fitz gave them a shot anyway. I wish Dak would go deep more

I think Fitzgerald is going to be one of the best QBs we've ever had at MSU.

Of course you never know for sure. But he's easily the best freshman QB we've had since Bond. He has all the tools and seems to do a good job handling the game.

Of course! The backup at MSU always is!

Fitz and Staley both appear to be very talented. Bigger and faster than Dak and with better passing ability. But if we learned anything this season from the Jeremy Johnson debacle, it's that we shouldn't judge these guys until they have started a few games, or at least played some meaningful snaps in multiple games. Can they actually make the right reads and perform against SEC defenses? I am optimistic that the competition between those guys will make both of them better players, but that doesn't mean either one of them will match Dak's ability to win games.

Every backup QB at MSU was going to be the best ever, and the only one that has been is Dak Prescott. So I'll just be happy with the starter we have now and hope we get a couple of solid OL to help start Fitz's legacy next year.

I also was totally impressed. He looked great. However, to paraphrase an old saying, "State fans make plans, the dead Indians laugh." All us old fans can do is ignore the past and hope for the best.

I think in 25 years, you'll basically split the MSU historical QB performance into spread and non-spread guys.

Nope. Not at all. And I never said he would be as good as Dak. But he just has that look like he has the "it" factor, and as I said earlier, he has all the tools. We'll see how it plays out over the next 3 years, but I like what I see.

I guess I need to go back and watch it, and I will. Fitz looked ok but not overly impressive to me. His deep TD pass to Bear was a beauty. No other throws were memorable. The other long balls were basically jump balls that our receivers made plays on. It is nice to see some jump balls when you see man coverage but that also leads to interceptions against good DB's (SEC not Sunbelt). He does look good running the ball for sure and seems tough as nails. I think he has potential but the "best MSU QB ever" talk seems very premature.

I thought he looked really good, and especially as a backup just getting a chance to show his stuff. And he looked good the time before he played (can't remember which game it was). I don't think we have any worries about QB after Dak is gone. Gotta admit I left the game early so didn't get to see Staley.

Wayne Madkin wonders if...........

Fitzgerald is going to start and win SEC games and take this year's team to the championship game like he did as a RS freshman.

You think madkin was better than fitz?
Madkin had outstanding lines when he played. Great OL's were JWS trademarks back in the day. Not taking anything away from madkin but he wasn't spectacular throwing the ball. Fitz IMO looked really good throwing the ball. Just give him time and I think he has potential to be great.

Fitz looked good throwing, however he made several mistakes on the read option.

How do you know he made the mistake on the read option. Teams that run the option block and read differently than others. How do you know an OL didnt block the read key and mess the read up for Fitz. As a coach whose team runs the option we block DT/DE and read LBs on some plays and others block those same LB and read the DE. Without having played in Dan's system it is hard to tell.

Me too .. just hate it when a Freshman QB comes off the bench and goes 6 of 7 (85.7%), 141 yards, 20+ yards per completion, for 2 TDs.

Just hate it.

It may be just me .. but I think Dak throws a 'flatter' long pass with less arc .. while Fitz seems to put 'more air' and higher arc on his long throws, allowing the WRs to 'make plays.' Guess we will see 'how' this works in SEC play with better DBs.
