That's about the 3rd different story I've heard about how he became a State fan. Starting to lean on the side that he saw an opportunity to to be a Finebaum celebrity and took it.

The so-called 85% fans are not unlike pro sports fans.....

In fact, in the south I think college football might have become what it did because there was no professional football close enough for many years.

Of course there is also legacy fans that did not attend the university but have some connection. My family is an example. I went to state, graduated with a couple of degrees and moved out of state. It was not really feasible for my kids to go to state and they went to college elsewhere. They however, because of ol' dad, are still life long State fans.

Lifelong state fan who didn't attend there checking in as well. Both my parents attended me my dad played for Polk 79-81. I strongly considered going but decided for several different reasons to go to Lipscomb University in Nashville.

I'm of the belief that non attendees of a university can be non bandwagon fans if they live in the state (or lived there) had parents that went there and therefore grew up as fans. Or, in the case of State, if for some reason you've chosen them as your team any time prior to Dan's arrival and stuck with it, you're ok in my book. Lots of disappointment in my lifetime (I'm 31) with the exception of 98-00.

As I said yesterday - the guy is full of **** and seized an opportunity for 15 minutes of fame. Nothing more, nothing less in my opinion.

Check out that building in the background - this picture is obviously from the 70s or 80s...

Is that woman behind him wearing a 15 jersey?

And you're right. That's a 15 jersey. She must have been a big Tyler Threadgill fan.

I took the click bait. I have heard his reasons for being a state fan atleast 3 times now and they are all the same. He add/deducts some details each time but they all have mentioned his trips to Vegas and "falling" for HailState. I believe he is TrueMaroon and support his tomfoolery.

I agree as my son will most likely be in the same boat since he is a future collegiate swimmer, which MSU does not have such an outlet. He has been raised an MSU Bulldog, and loves the school. Just doesn't have the option to go there when the time comes.

I agree. I'd say we should start a gofundme account to raise funds for a buyout, but we would probably just end up raising his salary from ESPN/Finebaum/Bama boosters.

I don't know what I am. I grew up with a cowbell in my hand & attended baseball camps at State for years. The majority of my extended family attended, attends, etc & lives in Starkville. My parents met there. I attended two separate times, yet I haven't graduated (from there or finished my remaining three semesters elsewhere). So, I am a college drop out. But, I don't know what kind of fan I'm considered.

He's got photos on his Facebook page of him at State games from over 5 years ago. He's been a fan.

It's all for finebaum and it makes me sick. The only reason that show is somewhat tolerable right now, is the fact that Bama and auburn are losing to ms schools. MUST TAKE THE STING OUT OF THE RAY.
