This is what Givony from ESPN said in the courier journal.

However, Diallo was eligible for the 2017 NBA draft because he came to UK from Putnam Science Academy, where he was playing a post-graduate year. Since he had actually graduated from high school in 2016, Diallo was eligible for the 2017 draft.
That is not the case for Sharpe.
Sharpe will satisfy the NBA's age requirement for the 2022 draft, but since he did not graduate high school until after the 2021-22 season started, he still will not be eligible to be drafted until 2023, according to ESPN NBA draft analyst Jonathan Givony.
He actually clarified his comments since to say it depends on when Sharpe can show he completed the coursework by. You don't actually have to have gone through a graduation ceremony to be eligible, it's just the necessary coursework must have been completed by the time the NBA season started. That can easily be done. Just see Thon Maker.

Crazy thing is that nobody can say 100% for certain whether Sharpe will be eligible for the 2022 draft or not. All 100% speculation IMO.
Personally I will take him at his word, and what’s known is that he isn’t eligible. I also don’t think Cal wants the heat if he doesn’t play this year and then leaves. It could happen but with NIL and him already getting deals, I’ll believe Sharpe until he leaves and proves otherwise. NIL may actually help us keep fringe guys and even those who come early now.

What official pictures? He’s not currently listed on UK’s official roster.

Think you might be confusing his recruiting visit pictures where he was indeed photographed wearing #1, but I wouldn’t put any stock in that (especially since CJ Fredrick is already #1).
He meant his official visit pictures. It’s obvious that he doesn’t have a number as of yet, thus the original question.

Sharpe could literally walk through a paper hoop on Senior Day, tears streaming down his face listening to MOKH, and people would still be worried if he’s eligible for the draft.

He currently isn’t. It is theoretically possible he could magically back date his HS credits and enter the draft on a loophole. He’s said he’s playing next year. Nothing resembling anything concrete has been shown that he can, or will, exploit that loophole.

He said he'll be back next year.

And MKG said he was returning for a sophomore year.

So did Boogie.

As did Archie Goodwin.

And a bunch of other guys who never showed back up to campus after the reality of millions settled down deep in their minds.

The loophole won't be hard to manufacture if Sharpe wants to provide evidence of graduation.

This is why so many of our fans are nervous, and they should be. He's that good.

Diallo wasn't a basketball player? seems to be doing pretty well in the association right now.
Yeah that was dumb to say but Sharpe really is on a whole other level. He's so well rounded, can score at all 3 levels and has major hops.

And I think MKG meant it, and wanted to return. But once teams were indicating he would go top 5 (he went top 3) then Cal "forced" him to go for his own good. Probably because he didn't want something like what happened to Wagner after getting drafted to happen to him before getting drafted, AND I think because he didn't think he could fix MKG's shot and another year at UK with no improvement in it would have sent red flags to NBA GMs and that top 5 draft status may have slipped to top 15. Don't give them time to see your weaknesses and fixate on why you don't improve them.

I’d say the only difference was they all had the “Kentucky Effect” and the exposure that came with it because of actually playing a full season.

I’ve said all along I don’t think it would make much sense to come to UK and only practice for 1/2 a year and not get the full benefit of the constant exposure of a full season. That’s the reason most come to UK, why not maximize the exposure and play a full season and make a ton of NIL $ in the process?

I believe Sharpe is the best prospect since Davis that UK has signed. I also think he will play some this season, but I tend to believe his people and Cal will make sure he’s not going to hurt his draft stock by playing before he’s integrated and up to speed. He’ll definitely be ready to showcase his skills after half a season of practice/potential playing time, a full summer, and a starring role on next season’s team.

I do understand people’s concerns which is why I posted that I recognize there is a loophole if he wants it. Maybe I’m naive but I don’t see it happening. JMO.

He will play if Cal, Sharp and the team thinks we could win a NC with him.

Actually it’s not speculation. By the rules he isn’t eligible. The only worry people have is that the NBA could change the rules so that Sharpe and Bates are both eligible for the draft. A move that wouldn’t shock most.

The difference is that Diallo was an athlete not a basketball player. Sharpe is a stud basketball player who also happens to have diallo like athleticism. Apples and oranges
The OKC Thunder would disagree strongly with this statement (as do I).

Several on here thought the same thing about Boston. Too early to tell if he plays and how effective he would be if he does play.

If he's here, and he's in school, and if he's able to meet the requirements to be on the roster, why would you not play him?
Chemistry for this team is not the reason he won't play. Sharpe will have no problem picking up Cal's basket weave.

Unless there was a recent change…college numbers need to be from 0 to 5 on each hand so officials can signal who a foul is on (ex: 45 is legal) So #’s 6-9 aren’t allowed (ex: 27 is not legal). The NBA doesn’t care as long as it’s less than 100.

I won't eat my crow until he officially bails on next year, which I don't think he will. They have said from the beginning he was coming in next year. Obviously, if they knew then and didn't say "Maybe" then that is at least a good omen. Plus, he technically would still have to ask the NBA if he can participate, so it's not a done deal as Givony reported. I think he comes back.
