Crazy we won 3 titles and 8 Final Fours the prior 50 years before Cal arrived. Other than a stretch from 93-98 when UK won 2 titles and 4 Final Fours and a stretch from 09-2015 with 1 title and 4 Final Fours, there are 50+ years since 1958 when we 1 title and 4 Final Fours total. Ouch.

I guess those other coaches were concerned about other things too...because other than Pitino's short run and Cal's short run and Tubby's latch on to Pitino one year...it hasn't been a lot of high level success since the magical run of 48-58. I am not sure if people on here just choose to ignore the history or are not aware of it.
coach Rupp won the NIT titles when it was more of a prize than the NCAA so don't put him in the same category
coach Rupp made UK basketball, not the shell it is now

4 titles and 12 final fours since 1958. You sure you are a UK fan? How many programs ever go to 4 final fours in a decade? what a dumbass post to prop up your boy Cal.

The ones thinking Sharpe may be our savior this year better reconsider.

Sharpe is having trouble figuring out the “GO, GO, GO” play that Cal likes running.

Instead of laughing at this because it's just flat out funny you probably made some people mad. People need to remember to just laugh these days. Hell, even a forced laugh is better than the alternative opposite that.

This isnt your avg HS player. Top recruit with off the chart measurements.
We hear it every year. All I'm saying is I need 5o see if to believe it. We've seen guys come in who can deliver and guys who can't. I just want to see Sharpe out there before I start making declarative statements like we're suddenly a title contender. I sure as hell hope he does make us that!

I don’t see how people keep saying Sharpe isn’t ready. It’s basketball, not rocket science. Heck Ty Ty’s first college game was against Duke and Sharpe can’t play against Georgia?
Yeah I dont buy the hes not ready theory.I mean hell if hes considered the top player in the class of 22 then play him.Im not saying start him but put him out there and let him play some minutes. To say hes not ready for the college game and him being considered the top player in the class of 22 is just ********.

Cbb is different now and 4 freshman and a super thin center ain’t making any March runs. I don’t care who the players are. Cal WILL have to bring in a couple big body post players and at least another guard or 3. Also Collins IMO is not gonna be back. But bottom line is if he’s our big we waste all the talent and lose early in the ncaa t

This year we are a first weekend knock out team. Can’t beat a decent team. Haven’t beat a tourney team yet and we are wildly inconsistent.
This philosophy is the problem. We do not need an aircraft carrier parked in the middle of the lane to win.

In the past decade, most of the teams that win the title have not had a dominant post presence inside. UNC in 2017 had Meeks, but he was the last dominant center I can think of that won the title.

The UConn teams, the Nova teams, UVA, and Baylor were all guard oriented teams playing four out with a defensive minded rim protector in the middle. Even on our 2012 team, AD was not an incredible post up/back to the basket player. He was a skinny 215 lbs. shot blocker that scored a lot on alley oops and put backs.

In 2019, UK lost to Auburn in the Elite Eight. A small Auburn team without much of a post presence.

Last year, Illinois looked so good during the regular season and then got picked apart by smaller, quicker team early in the tourney. Iowa had the best big man in the country in Garza, but failed to make the Final Four.

This is not the 1980’s and 1990’s. The game has changed. Time to evolve with the game or get left behind.

As for Collins, you may be right about him leaving, but he is not on that trajectory, IMHO. He looks like a guy learning this season and preparing for a second year, patiently waiting his turn. No murmuring about not getting playing time. No rumors of leaving the program because he barely plays. Doesn’t sound like a kid in a hurry to get to the pros. But I could be wrong, he might bolt. No player is guaranteed to return anymore. That’s the culture today.

Asked what the downside to playing Sharpe just a little bit, Cal says it all depends on whether he's ready. He has to be in unbelievable shape, and he's not even close to that. "I'm still working on freshmen who have been here the summer, the fall, and they're still not ready."

All I hear now is, "Look Sharpe squirrel!" "Pay no attention to my total lack of coaching a functional half-court offense."

I never expected Sharpe to play this year because I thought that was the plan and didn’t think he was eligible for this year’s draft.

Could someone correct me if I am wrong?

I cringe. We are just another program amongst the SEC right now. We can get beat by anyone on any given night. Sharpe may not be ready- but he acts like he’s got to go through some amazing transformation that we hardly ever see in players under Cal.
Hell last year we got beat by everybody.

This is absolutely the correct answer.

No one will read it though because because most are big Ole cry babies who didn't get enough milk as a baby.
Listen, personally I don’t care if he plays him or not. I don’t think he’s good enough for us to overcome all of the weaknesses of this team and the mistakes made already and mistakes this coaching staff will make the rest of the season. When I say staff I really just mean Calipari. We have a hot/cold point guard, we get nothing from the forward position (Brooks) TyTy plays like a typical freshman. Thank God for Oscar and Grady. Our bench consists of Toppin and Mintz. Toppin has great upside but Mintz you never know if Dr Jekyl or Mr Hyde gonna show up with that guy. I would have Oscar at the 5. Toppin and Collins at forward, Hopkins first off the bench, then TyTy and Wheeler with Grady getting a minimum of 20 minutes a game. Brooks, Allen would be used sparingly along with Ware. Those 3 guys are 2 minutes at a time players, nothing else. Mintz would get about 10 minutes a game.

I think Cal wants to say, “I want to play him, but his family/handlers don’t want him to play yet, so until I convince him and his people to let him play, he’s not playing.”
If that were the case he should have enjoyed high school. You earn it at this level, or at you should.

According to Sharpe, he came to train and get a head start on next season, not to play this season. How could he accomplish this by staying in high school?

I just don’t want to rush him in and play him before he is ready and it kills his confidence. Basketball is a psychological sport and a player’s mentality means as much as his skill.

And I wonder if we are expecting too much from this kid. Everyone would love to see him come in and dominate from the start, but that’s asking a lot in January.

And before Wheeler went down, we were looking pretty good with the guards we have. If Wheeler doesn’t get hurt, I bet we win fairly easily. Heck, we were the better team until Washington cramped up.

I just don’t know if Sharpe is ready to be a difference maker this year, but he could be a superstar in 9-10 months.

But in the end, I don’t make the decisions. I just hope Cal/Sharpe make the best decision, whether it’s play or not.
A level headed comment.

Needs time to learn to play with the team.

If he does play this year at all by the latter part of our SEC schedule he will have a similar effect as Derek Anderson or Ron Mercer. I watched a ton of film on him whole game films and he has a potential to be Tracy McGrady. Give him some time he'll get there.

That’s crazy to think, Cal needed to have five 5 star players starting.
Two ended up being #1 and #2 picks in the draft.
One being a generational talent.

To win his lone national championship.
Well K had the same with Zion's year and didn't even make the F4 and everyone thinks he's the messiah so

How could Sharpe be worse than Hopkins or Allen?

Wait what? So even freshmen who aren't ready have been playing? LOL then why not play Sharpe for two 5 minute segments and see what he can do?

Cal is full of crap.
