So who does Barney replace CAL with. No one would have wanted to follow CAL after 2015. Getting easier and easier to follow up this **** show now.

Mark Pope. He’s not a big name but neither was Brad Stevens before Butler. Pope is good at X‘s and O’s. He will have all the resources in the world so the rest will take care of itself.
If it’s a college coach, I’d prefer someone who has at least won an NCAA Tournament game in their 6 years as a HC.

Of the OP’s list, give me Scott Drew.

Hell. Dig up Rupp or put Hall back there. That’s about as likely as Cal getting fired.

In all seriousness Nate Oats is a great coach and is proving to be a good recruiter. When he speaks and acts he does so in a manner of his program first F everybody else.

last night while the Baylor coaches were chasing down the refs he was standing at center court with his hand extended to shake hands laughing. Say what you will but that type of brazenness is what’s missing in sports today, too many people worried about being friendly and politically correct. Oats is only concerned with winning, running a new age offense, and letting everyone know.
I think he also called out Duke last year to which is always endearing to people around here.

The guy was also really good at his previous destination. He can really coach, if that was UK playing Houston last night we would’ve had 65 points cause Cal is trying to play in the no shot clock era

Scott Drew built that Baylor program from ruins. He has proven he can win in March.

Oats building up ALABAMA of all schools into a top 10 team is impressive. Hasn’t gone as far as Drew, but also hasn’t coached as long.

Not much needs to be said about Donovan. I think he’s a longshot, already turned UK twice, call him anyways.

More likely scenario imho:

1. Barney Retires
2. Peevy Hired
3. Cal Retires
4. New Coach Hired

Edit, nm, forgot Barney got a contract extension. Looks like he will hire next coach...

Do you guys think Cal’s just gonna walk away from that outlandish buyout?

There’s no point in having this conversation with that issue hanging over our head. We can’t afford to pay it, and past suitors like the NBA and UCLA are no longer knocking on Cal’s door.

1. Billy D. - Would hate be turned down 3 times.
2. Pitino - The guy has to be in the conversation for best college coaches ever. He’s had his issues with women, but so have I.
3. Oats and Drew - good coaches obviously.
4. Holtmann - don’t think he’s ready.

As far as on-court success, the answer is probably Pitino, and he would revel in a triumphant return to Camelot. Unfortunately the guy carries more baggage than the Queen Mary.

Number 3 and number 3 only. Both would come I believe. Drew won a freaking title at Baylor. That's more impressive than anything Cal or Pitino has ever done.

Pitino is under no circumstance welcomed back here.

He’s a proven cheater and he flipped off the fan base AT RUPP. Sorry. That gets you banned for life.

We have to find someone who will the program and fan base first, players just right underneath that (because players have to feel happy and welcome or they won’t come), and everything else second.

Cal used to do that. His players first mentality is fine, but it’s grown out of control. Players have to feel valued or we won’t get any decent ones. That’s the nature of the sport now like it or not. But Cal has lost that balance.

Cal has got until March to turn crap around. It’s Final Four or bust for him now.

Donovan has turned UK down how many times…..3, 4??!! I don’t think Drew is going anywhere. He’s got a sweet gig going. Oats called out K so I like his swag for that. Holtzmann would be a good choice. Frank Vogel….? UK grad and played for Pitino. NBA experience and connections.

Not saying I want a 70yo Pitino back. but don't see the issue with him being a competitor. He was hot and had just lost. Cal doesn't care enough about winning a game to get upset if he loses.

You don’t flip off the fan base who used to think you walked on water. Bobby Knight used to get upset too. Chairs would fly. No thanks.

He is not welcome back.

We were the opponents that day. I see it differently.
