Why did Dak slim down? Because Staley ate his food. *Rim Shot*

2 Elijah Staley QB 6-6 248 RFr.

235 as a true frosh. For comparison purposes:

Blake "Belldozer" Bell 6-6 250 (259 as TE)

$cam "$180K" Newton 6-6 248 (240 as tSoph.)

It's going to be an interesting battle over the next 12 months.

Another aspect to consider is that the loser probably won't have time to transfer out, especially if they're still battling enter fall of 2016.

It IS a good problem to have. No "hopefully" about it. Whether the loser transfers out or not.

I preface everything with hopefully because of dead engines. Watch ES transfer and Fitz break his leg shortly thereafter. We are...

Don't we have 1 or 2 pretty good QBs coming in with this class and lined up for next year's class? We'll be fine.

I'll be interested to track Tiano's progress in our system. Thought it was a curious scholarship offer at the time.

I think there is a significant drop off from ES/Fitz to Tiano. That is purely speculation though.

By all appearances, Mullen wanted Tiano more than a few "higher rated" QBs. I think he'll be another good one.

My money is on Elijah Staley winning it out...

and Fitz moving to WR. I think the time ES has been able to mold his body, work ethic and maturity will produce a force to be reckoned with. Not knocking Fitz or his ability I just think he is the one who would transition to another position more easily. I have heard he isn't opposed to a position change if need be.

Has anyone ever actually seen Staley play? Until I do, my money's on Fitzgerald. I think we're going to be in good shape no matter which one wins out.

Of course no one has seen him play but....

I just think if there was a clear separation you would have already seen him transfer. This summers camp will be very telling. Agreed, great "problem" to have.

Mullen recended an offer from a 4 star QB from Texas for Tiano. I'm assuming Mullen saw something in him, I'm just interested to see how he shakes out over the next couple of years.

If I remember correctly off the top of my head he played small ball in mid-Tennessee. Not exactly a gold mine.

Maybe Dan really liked him. Maybe he saw the logjam forming and decided to pick up a depth guy (ala Williams). Who knows.

Chason Virgil was a 3 star as well. He ended up at Fresno State. Just so I'm clear, I am not arguing that we are in a bad position at QB. But we need to remember how quickly it can change from one direction to another. Hell, this might be the best QB situation MSU has ever had.

Fitz will be the QB in 2016. ES is too far behind. But I see ES as the starter in 2017 and 2018, with Fitz moving to TE.

You must think we are really going to suck in 2016.

Kinda interesting that you think ES is too far behind now but will pass fitz after he has a year of starting experience. I think whichever one wins the job this offseason will be a 3 year starter, assuming either fitz or Rs wins the job. I wouldn't be shocked to see Williams starting. Mullen is pretty loyal to seniors.

OK. That's cool. From what I've heard, ES has more of the tools. You can't overestimate game experience, but the gap closes the longer one is in the system and gets reps in. But do you really think that a QB is going to last three years without injury in Merlin's offense?

Ok, so let me reason this out. The sarcasterisks mean, I think, that you don't think we will suck this year, and that would mean you don't think we will suck next year. So you think coming off a bowl season in 2016, Mullen will have a QB competition in the spring and Staley will beat out the incumbent, and he'll just move to tight end after a year of being successful in the SEC as a quarterback. Is that right? Could I get a yes or no without the ******* asterisks, you think?

Don't count out Williams. I think he gets first dibs at #1 and it's his to lose. Mullen owes that to him and he knows it. Mullen is that loyal to his guys. He'll start Williams game 1 2016.

Mullen thinks ES has the most upside of any QB he has ever signed and not just at MSU. ES was #2 during bowl practice before he got hurt. Fitz is 2 because ES is still recovering. Also look no further than OL depth at RT with senior and rankin being the back up that the blind side next year. ES is a lefty
