#12 Oregon vs BYU

I'm not sure why anyone would be worried about BYU in our tournament bracket. They generally fold against much more athletic teams. I wouldn't want the matchup because I like BYU and wouldn't want to have to beat them.

As for Mark Pope leaving for a bigger job, I have conflicting thoughts about that. On the one hand, head coaches at BYU are LDS so there is a stronger connection to the school than just any other job. The lifestyle in Provo is difficult to beat. On the other hand, BYU does not typically pay market rate for their coaches. That is because of the school is counting on the other ties keeping the coach at the school. This became an issue on the football side when Bronco Mendenhall abruptly left to take the Virginia job. At the time it was reported that Virginia tripled his salary. With all of that said, I think Pope would definitely consider leaving for a top-tier coaching job (Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc), and probably wouldn't have to think about the Kentucky job. But I would not expect him to leave for a mid-level job unless they tripled his income.

BYU is embarrassing Oregon. Wow!
But BYU can't possibly play because they play in the WCC. That is what i hear on here that the WCC is an awful conference. Most of this talk comes from people that couldn't even tell you who even plays in that conference. All that shows is your lack of knowledge of college basketball.

Why attack me "great one"? Did I say something here or are you referring to something I said last spring or what? Regardless of who is who here and what conference they are from, BYU embarrassed Oregon. Period. Are you OK?

I'm guessing they're looking like entering the transfer portal after the season with another 7 footer there and another 5 star 7 footer coming next year.
I can't emphasize enough what a heinous decision it was for Dante to be peddled by a human trafficker (I mean Advisor) to Oregon. Kepnang--just chalk it up to where he went to HS (Westtown where Bamba, Reddish, and Lively all attended as well) and fact UK was more lukewarm with him.

I definitely wouldn't be against considering Mark Pope as Cal's future replacement. I still remember when they had the video at BBM with the former players in it and he was an assistant coach at BYU. He tore off his outer clothes to reveal a UK uniform and did a cheer.

Here it is.

Wasn't directed at you. Although aren't you one of the ones on here that keeps saying how weak the wcc conference. We are good though.

Yeah, I've made plenty of comments about the weakness of the WCC. But I think your reaction here is overboard. BYU embarrassed Oregon. If Kentucky had beat them by 32, it would have been an embarrassment, too. Heck, if anyone had beaten them by that much, it would have been ridiculous. Good teams (alleged top 25 teams) don't lose by 32. I wasn't making any commentary on the WCC here. We can save that for another thread.

I tell you what that 32pt loss says to me... one of 2 things. Either you've got at least one legit good team in BYU or Oregon is way overrated. I'd say it's likely a little bit of both.

Nah he’s not, that dude is a Gonzaga homer. Not sure why he’s even on here TBH.

All these “advisors” on college hoops/football are scum. There is a reason probably 65% or more of them are felons.

Fighting Mark Popes taking the ducks to the woodshed!
Your line from this thread was so memorable that I thought the thread was named this.

Anyway, BYU beat previously unbeaten Utah last night. 75 to 64 on their home floor. Utah's home floor.

I would have him on the short list of potential hires when Cal leaves. Playing here definitely gives him an advantage over coaches that have never been a part of a program at this level. He knows what the expectations are like.
