True, but CJ is a different breed. After 6 months of reading the CJ hype, I watched his games as a Hawkeye. Dude can stroke it. The Hawkeye board has people saying he hit 78 out of 100 threes in several practices.

He also is a great post passer from his time with Garza. Does not make mistakes and is a good defender.
And if CJ had played we would've only been one more guy away. And if we had Kofi we might've won. And if we had CJ and Kofi and Tyty played a great game we might've won.

Once this team Gels, and everyone figures out their role we will be aiight. Said it in the summer this is an Elite 8 team with potential to go further. Wheeler gets one of his shots to go in, TyTy hits two of his shots and refs loosen the whistle it's a UK win. This board is calling this team garbage after an absolute sloppy dogfight against an elite frontcourt.
Wont matter if CJ or Allen played. If you don't run stuff to get your shooters shots, and you don't value the ball what you see is what we got. Grady had no plays ran for him, what could he have done if Cal focused the offense around him? And I thought Grady was really good. My opinion, Mintz needs to sit and split his minutes with Allen and CJ. I've never been high on Mintz. Sorry not sorry!
No way this is an elite 8 team. No. Way.
If Cj played last like he would of gotten the same type of treatment that Grady got. He may of gotten off a few threes but then Duke would just stay attached to him. Cj is a great shot maker but not a shot creator. UK needed guys to create and make shots last night. When Duke stopped helping off shooters to stop the drive, UK struggled finding open looks.
CJ Will hit some big shots for this team. Him playing wouldn’t have e equated to a UK win last night, but he will be more valuable to this team then people think. He is almost automatic from 3 and defends well also. This team has elite 8/Final Four potential
I think CJ and Kellan are a waste in this offense. Neither can get their own shot (which Cal relies on) and the only screens we set are for the ball handler.
I think Sweet 16 is the ceiling for this group. No, I took that from a pathetic exhibition game we escaped from and a clear representation that the Calipari of the last 11 years is not changing. We do not have the elite talent we had in 2012 or 2015, we have no inside presence, we have an undersized PG and a coach who doesn't know how to. Dribble drive has been dead for years, yet we still run it as the only offense. Cal continues to play guys who do not deserve the minutes to coddle them. If you cannot see what's right in front of you, take the blinders off.

I thought I'd seen multiple times in the exhibition where Grady was coming off screens to get shots.
I think Duke was so physical they threw off a lot of what we wanted to do.

- TyTy....I tend to doubt it....he's the 5 * NBA kid.
- Wheeler is the PG...so different position
- Mintz is the main guy overlapping skills set and position.
Is there a difference in CJ and Allen? Watched Iowa/CJ play and he can't play defense either so not sure what would change
An exhibition is just that. An exhibition. Not a real game. Guys probably went in overlooking them and they hit lilke 60% of their threes. Cal has shown tremendous strides in trying to get back to that elitism of his first 5-6 years. Old assistants had to go. You cannot say that that has not changed with our class next year. Yes, I agree that we are thin on the inside but you have to understand that the game has changed. You will not see a team run with two true bigs, and most bigs now do not want to bang around. Look at Banchero. Made almost all jump shots. That Undersized PG was amazing last night, if you weren't such a debbie downer you would have saw how his fight kept us in the game. Sahvir will be a good pg.
The first game against a year likely with one of the best players in college right now, we lost by eight, frederick did not play, TyTy missed a lot of shots, Wheeler two too many turnovers. Things that are easily fixed with a team that has just been put together, it will take time to gel.
Agreed,Cal HAS to change his offensive philosophy,just look at Arkansas or Alabama in our own conference,that is the Offense kids like to play and is effective,this dribble drive crap died several years ago and he's not getting the elite of the elite talent that he once did..It's painful to watch his offense these days..That is why he won't win another Championship because of his Ego and inability to change to the times.

Having that extra threat definitely would have helped. But Grady lit it up the first half and Cal left him on the bench for half of the second.

Either did Dontae or Collins and Bryce , who had nothing but praises in practices. Cal keeps saying will only play 8 or so .. will be a lot of unhappy Cats.. but , I will definitely enjoy seeing Wheeler drive to hoop and Kick it out to CJ.

It was also a big part of their 2nd half game plan - stick to the shooters when Wheeler penetrates instead of helping, and let the rim-protectors do their job. Worked pretty well. On many drives Wheeler couldn't find anyone to pass to and had little choice but to force a bad shot.
Grady is hitting about every open look from three that he sees. The problem is the open looks are few and far between. CJ better be able to create his shot. Our biggest problem is we are running dribble drive and pick and roll offense but we don't have drivers/finishers. We need to run some motion offense setting multiple screens and creating a few lay ups and more open looks.
This right here is exactly why our fan base is so hated nationally. Just an insane level of delusional, angry at everything in their lives, negative drama queens. And the worst of you guys are all over 50 years old. It’s just embarrassing to love the team you people claim to be fans of sometimes, and not because we lose or don’t make final fours. It’s because of fans like you that no doubt post stuff like this all the time.
