Interesting article on prized QB recruits not living up to the hype.

The reason I'm linking it is Max Staver is mentioned. For those of you who don't remember, he was supposed to come to MSU. Ended up choosing Florida and is now the starting QB for Houston Baptist University.

by SEC team follows.

Only West team without a QB transfer is MSU. Three teams with 4 QB transfers out .. Bama, A&M, & FL

OT looks like State 'may' face former Florida QB Jeff Driskel who transferred and is competing for starting QB at La Tech

Ole Miss also had Kendrick Doss transfer, but they had announced he was moving to safety.

I'm not sure I'd say he was supposed to come to MSU. He had an MSU offer but was down our board. He wanted to commit but we wouldn't take it b/c we wanted Cord Sandberg. He went to camp at Florida and to everyone's surprise he was offered and they took it but if I remember right, Fla took 2 QBs that year. As everyone remembers we ended up with Damien Williams in a late flip from USM. Staver had great size, pretty good athleticism, and a decent arm but had a funky release. He played a weak academy league in TN. He was an upside guy that didn't pan out at the top of his potential. To his defense I'd say I bet he'd been a better QB if he was coached by Mullen.

We would have taken his commitment. And most of what you are saying about Staver can be said about Fitz. The reason Staver sticks out at most recruitniks is because of the great letter he wrote to our staff thanking them for the offer.

Maybe my memory is foggy but we were all-in on Sanberg and weren't taking anyone else until he decided to go pro in baseball. Staver wanted to commit before Cord was ready to decide and we weren't taking anyone before that. All that other stuff was just me running through that QB class a little bit for context. I could have added in O'Korn too since some of our fans freaked out about him too.

ETA: just texted someone who would know for sure and Staver was not a take before Cord. He also said he was behind Dobbs as well (who I had completely forgotten about). Also he says Staver committed to Fla a week after Cord committed to MSU so I had the TL a little off.

ETA2: Cord committed 6/11 Dobbs 6/13 (ASU) & staver (Fla) 6/18

Speaking of Cord, I ran into a guy who had been in the Phillies organization for a few years but recently gave it up. He said he had talked with Cord recently and it was still his intentions to come back and play QB for Mullen if/when baseball didn't work out.

He also acted like this would be sooner, rather than later. No idea on when this might be but thought it was interesting.

At the risk of upsetting the engines, supposedly there has been some communication between he and Don Mullins.

That would be a pretty legit boost to get a 22 year old professional athlete in camp worth 0 scholarships who could very likely take the starting job.

Mullen obviously likes these former minor leaguers. We had that guy from the New York Mets at the beginning of Dan's career and we have 2 Dixons currently on the team on the bill of two other teams.
