Terrible. Another reminder that baseball is a game that there is an "assumption of risk" when you attend and you need to be paying attention. I'm about as bad as anyone at looking at something on my phone during slow periods, but I don't think a lot of casual fans understand where the danger areas down the baselines are.

Hopefully the woman pulls through. For any lawyers on here, what are the legal ramifications of this incident? Is this woman or her family entitled to a settlement from the Red Sox?

I know there are a lot of points that could be argued in her favor. Specifically, the seats at Fenway are worse than Neyland Stadium or Tad Smith Coliseum in terms of how tightly you are packed in like sardines. It could be very difficult to move out of the way of a flying object at high velocity.

Doubt it. They might do something nice for her, but MLB has been sued many times for this kind of thing and rarely if ever loses because you are willingly putting yourself at risk when you buy a ticket and sit in the stands.

I hope she's not entitled to anything from MLB or the Red Sox. What negligence did the Red Sox do to deserve being sued? It's unfortunate the lady got hurt but it's not like the baseball player attacked her with the bat.

good thing that we don't use wooden bats......if we did, our legals would probably make us put up protective devices all the way down the baselines! I mean, it could happen....never mind that hasn't......but we do need to eliminate all possibilities that it might.....we would not want a law suit.....who cares if the game atmosphere is not the same. Don't you like to look through bullet proof glass at the ballpark?...I can assure you the game experience would be better #sarcasm intended #new.species.troll

Well, we were actually going to give everyone new seats that came equipped massaging backs and lasers that shoot down any incoming balls/bats. They were also heated and cooled just like a Cadillac Escalade and dispensed Bryan Juicy Jumbos. But everybody wanted to keep their old seats because trudishun and atmusfear.
