A potential #1 pick in hand is worth two in the bush.

Bring him in. Go three guard lineup. I freaking love this development. You don't tell Ron Mercer "no" just because you already have Delk, Sheppard, Anderson, Simmons, and Edwards on the wing.

Many guys would lose minutes, he's too damn good to ride the bench...hopefully it doesn't come to fruition and ruin team chemistry.
It likely puts Wheeler out of the rotation because now Cal will play Mintz more as a reserve point guard.

I can live with that if it means the #1 pick in the draft is on the court for us. Wheeler knew the deal when he came here.

Hope he enrolls and plays now. Championships are hard to come by. I’m impatient and greedy.
This.

We have everything on this upcoming team except for a star. Sharpe gives us that guy who will create scoring opportunities when the offense stalls. Surround him with veterans and I really like our chances at a title this year.

I'm excited and I also hope he plays this year.

As of now I’d rather have him this year.

Things could change but as of right now it looks like we’ll be stronger in the post this year than next year. So put your best possible guard package with your best possible post package and swing for the fences.

This make the most sense. There is no tomorrow for us the fans or Cal.

I can't decide if Sharpe is making this happen or Cal or both. Either way you have to seize the moment. Carpe diem.

Not reading through all this.. But rule is 1 year removed from graduating class or 19.. He turned 18 back in the spring,, I believe.. Read it somewhere he turned 18 before this past draft and if so he'd be eligible to go to the nba in 2022..

Yep. This is why we should/will play him this year.

Wheeler's probably out of the guard rotation, but I can live with that. Sharpe gives us the super stud we've been missing since Fox and Monk were here.

How can he enroll in November? Does UK have a Winter session that starts in November? That’s the only way I figure it could happen that soon.

I'm not sure what he's done but NBA guys said if he'd played his cards right,, he'd been eligible this past draft and would be eligible in 2022.. I'm not sure what he's done.. Reclassified? No clue..

Should be available for the UL game.. Don't think he's trying to get in for the first semester.. Could be wrong again because I have no clue as to what he's done yet far as leaving high school and being here in 2-3 weeks..

If he plays, I think we will see this starting 5 by the end of the season:

G Washington
G Sharpe
G Grady
F Collins
F Tshiebwe

Cal will play his 5-star Freshman talent, always has, always will (with very few exceptions).
Brooks starts all season imo, unless he gets hurt. No way Collins out plays him.

After the dust settles, Wheeler, Washington, Sharpe, Hopkins and Oscar, assuming Hopkins is as good right now as advertised. Grady will play a lot of back-up at the 2 and 3 spots and Brooks will do the same at the 4 and 5, assuming he doesn't beat out Hopkins for the entire season as the 4 starter. This, of course, is contingent on the assumption that Sharpe plays this entire season. Just my gut feeling.
I think that would cause problems. Grady didn’t come here to come off the bench. He’s a 6th year SR & a 2000 point scorer who could’ve gone anywhere he wanted. He came here for the exposure to improve his draft prospects & it would be sabotage to relegate him to the bench & give his minutes to a new guy a week before the season starts. That would be dirty af, IMO. If Cal really asked for Oscar’s approval on Cockburn imagine the slap in the face this would be to Grady if he wasn’t asked or was blindsided by this. I’d guess that it’ll mostly knock Wheeler or Fredrick out of minutes before Grady but it’ll be felt throughout the rotation.

A 2 thousand Point scorer is a star.

There's zero chance wheeler is out of the rotation. Mintz will be out before wheeler

This is not good news long term. We are set this year already and then next year was going to be epic. Now we could be loaded this year but there’s no need, we are already set as I just mentioned. And it comes at the expense of next year.

Plus these kids come in too young. When has any reclassified player done anything for us? I’ll answer that for you, never. Diallo spent the year kind of just hanging around and then there was Askew. They come in too young plain and simple, I don’t even care what they’re ranked. Combine that with how we already have a loaded backcourt I’m pretty upset with this development

Jamal Murray was a reclass who did a lot for us.

What was the situation with Hami Diallo? Seems like he was eligible for the NBA draft after graduating and enrolling mid-season. The NBA let him declare for the draft.

I don't really get the sense that the NBA is too strict with their rules on draft eligibility. If it's a close call they let them declare. At least that's what it seems like to me. Is there a situation where a kid tried to declare and the NBA told him no?
Diablo wasn’t the top recruit and sure fire top 5 pick. He had to play a season it didn’t matter. Sharpe doesn’t have to play a minute to get picked in the top 5

Not necessarily the hottest of takes, but I think if he does play this year, it is very possible it will cause division in the locker room. Somebody is going to see their minutes either cut to nil, or pretty close. Now, if say Fredericks continues to be unable to play it would open up a spot, but somebody would still get much fewer mins. Probably Allen. It could be great and make us the favorite, or it could backfire.
There are guys as it stands who will see limited minutes. There are a lot of players. Allen and Fredrick are gonna have to fight like hell to see action.

Here’s the ultimate question. Can sharpe move into the lodge now and start practicing without enrolling or possibly enrolling in say 1 or 2 online 8 week classes?

I wouldn't count Wheeler out of anything. He's tough, smart, mature and does the things a team needs that no one else on this team can do. He will play a significant role on this squad. And there's the rub - how to divide the minutes 1 thru 2 on this team?

Maybe. He still can't shoot. If that proves a liability, he may not play.

The good news is we have a ton of options and if someone's on the court, chances are, they're very good.

I'm cool with that. We will have plenty of options. It's hard to count any of these guys out. If Sharpe comes, it just gets crazier from a depth position, and that's really good news.

I thought he shot the ball fine
Wheeler shot 23% from three last season for Georgia. 18/80 from three. The year before, he shot about 32% from three.

In two seasons for Georgia, he shot a combined 26% from three point range on 130 total attempts.

Yeah, this is the potential hazard of adding Sharpe.

The upside is that you might be adding a Kobe-level talent. If we could have added Tracey McGrady late to the 1998 team (in January, for example), you have to do it, even if it ticks off Heshimu Evans for a few weeks.

If Cal was watching tonight--the idea of Mintz ever getting any competitive mins at PG for this year's team should be thrown out. Wheeler and Washington will be the PG's and should be. Mintz at PG looked like '20 Cats-it was awful and it took Brooks leaving his team to look playable. While he was on Mintz team-he looked like he should be 10th man.

Wheeler/Washington/Sharpe.

You don't moan about having 1st World problems of having a Lottery pick want to come and join the team.

Mintz should not be the starting point guard. Wheeler is one helluva a distributor
