Not sure how it is in high school, but in middle school matches we rent a cart and follow them around for 9 holes. Most kids use a push cart and parents can let them ride if it's an especially long distance between holes.
That does sound pretty good. Add a few cold beers in the YETI tumbler and you've got yourself an afternoon.

Golf parenting is great. Rent a cart, follow the group around and socialize with the other parents. And, at least in our league, parents arent allowed to coach thier kids, and are discouraged from even talking to them. So you dont have to listen to "DOWN AND READY DACRE!"

Everyone, including the kids is much more laid back. I attribute this to ESPN not showing little league golf on TV.

Snagged this 40lb Asian Carp this morning. First time fishing in quite a while, got the fever back quite quickly reaping it in.

And, no, that’s not me in the pic. That’s my fishing buddy Bob
I hope you killed it.

I hope the lady in the fishing pic wore sunscreen. If not, she will be miserable from the sunburn. Is that a Pentecostal skirt (Jirt) she is wearing ? Nothing wrong with that, just curious.

Cut the bladder out for bait and gave the rest of it to this old black dude that came running over when he saw me reel it in. Ole boy should have plenty of meals off that one.
They're pretty good to eat if you know how to filet them. Lots of small bones. I hear pickling is good and it softens the bones, but I've never had it that way.

I have no idea but he was happy. Went on and on about good they were. Told us if we ever caught any Gar to call him and he would take those, too. He apparently loves him some Gar Balls.

Eff Asian carp. Almost to the point where you can’t run up the river a mile without them jumping in the boat. Slimy, stinking egg eaters.
Seriously considering wearing a football helmet to keep from being knocked tha eff out.
I appreciate the effort of the bow fisherman but laying them out on the ramp to take a pic for social media then leaving them on the ramp pisses me off.

You mean the one with the long white beard?

Edit: my bad. That is this dude named Ray that shows up from time to time while we are fishing. He’s a few bricks shy of a picnic.

I've seen people cut the equivalent of the tenderloin out of gar to eat. The skin is like kevlar though, so they're really hard to get to.

I have no real desire to try gar. They're cool fish though.

I know one fish that is NOT good, IDGAF how you cook it, cut it, filet it. Spoonbill (paddle fish for the official name). Absolutely ******. Even tried soaking overnight in milk, did not help a lick. You have to "snag" them as they are filter feeders and do not eat bait or lures. It is hard to snag one of them bastards, and damn expensive, using the treble hooks and big *** sinkers. Down at KY Dam you will get hung up in the rocks and lose tackle about every 5 or 6 cast. But they are a damn fun challenge once you do snag one. It is truly a fight to get one landed, it wore my *** out when I used to go snagging for them.

it’s funny about high school golf. We had buddies on the golf team in high school who would go to our football and baseball games. It never once occurred to us to attend a golf tournament. They never really asked either. Probably the loneliest of the high school sports.

Basketball, baseball, & especially football are social events for the fans/students in HS.

You think it’s weird golf doesn’t have cheerleaders & a band, too? What a dumb comparison

HS Golfers don’t give AF or feel “lonely” whatsoever, lol.

Way late notes blowing around in the winds of Hurricane Ida....

- I guess I've just been living right with the lord or something, but my house just doesn't lose power much. Only 6 days without, while over half the city is still waiting for theirs to be turned back on right now. #blessed

- Will Levis is the star of the show, but Wan'Dale was the best player on the field Saturday. Add in Josh Ali, and we haven't had playmakers like that since the Rich Brooks era.

- Front row in the upper level > just about anywhere in the lower.

- I don't know what I admire more of the Jaimanthony lake home setup more --> the Camp Chef or the Solo Stove.
- David Allan Coe, one of the healthier, fitter, wellness conscious 82 year-olds you'll ever meet, is currently in the ICU battling COVID. Why does it always happen to the good ones? Such a shame. If the virus takes this guy out, it's really gonna be a serious eye opener.

- As someone who has successfully raised two different breeds of hound, I can say with full authority that I know what it takes to be a good parent. After spending the weekend around 80 Proof and anth's oldest boys, I overheard them shouting "heyyyyyyyyyyyy youuuuuuuuuuu guuuuuuuuuuuys!!!" approximately 1,000 times each after recently watching Goonies for the first time. Proud of these fathers. Doing great work in their communities, imho.

- Hospitalizations are down about 50% in just two weeks in the state of Louisiana. But have fear! According to this recent article, another outbreak could possibly maybe there's a chance of potentially likely another spike....

In the week since Ida hit, COVID-19 precautions have slipped. Even in New Orleans, which has had some of the strictest mandates in the nation, masks came off as people waited for electricity to return in stifling homes or businesses. And distancing was not prioritized as families and friends crowded into homes with generators, in large shelters or in nearby states.

read this crock of s***

Nevermind that:

* bars and restaurants have been completely closed (the biggest culprit, of course)
* the last saints preseason game was canceled (a SUPER SPREADER!!!!)
* schools have been closed
* a curfew was put in place
* most people sheltered in their homes

It's total bs like this that scares people and makes them LESS safe, not to mention speaks to a million people like they are children. Like a year and a half into this garbage we need a local journalist to remind us how to stand 6 feet apart and how to improperly wear a dirty cloth over our face. Thanks, you c-word.

- Eliah Drinkwitz.

- Spent 4 nights in my parents basement with the lassie and the dog. Shew. We survived, and thank heavens. Two old person things that confuse me...

* they keep the thermostat on 80. I'm happy with 75, because I'm not a fat, but damn. It was cooler outside in the sun than inside the house.
* for going on 30 years now, my dad "reads about people getting their cars broken into every single day," so make sure to lock up. yes, right there in greenbrier there is a huge crime wave.

- When I bumped into drxman's lass on Wednesday morning, she mentioned that she and drx have a membership at the same place my parents live.

me = "oh, that's great. so you both golf?"
her = "yes, but very poorly."

Yup.

- Like John Calipari, my posts underpromise and overdeliver.

I didn’t say they felt lonely. I said it’s a lonely sport. As in, you’re alone out there without fans. And I would have gone to a tournament had I thought about it.

If people could sit in one place and watch an entire high school golf match they “might” go watch it, but very very few people are going to actually go walk 9 or 18 holes to watch. And no golfer or golf coach would ever expect otherwise.

The idea of “fans” watching just never crosses a high school golfers mind. They don’t think about it, or care about it.

- Yeah, if I was a high school kid standing over a huge putt on 18, the one thing I'd absolutely want is 500 of my classmates watching.

- Hearing Al Michaels on the mic tonight will be the final sign that Fall is here.

- When I was a kid, Monday Night Football was almost mythical in stature. The lone primetime game each week, a celebrity announcing crew, *usually* great teams, and yet I was never allowed to stay up late enough to watch more than the first quarter. It felt like a national event each week. On a much smaller scale, so did the NBC Baseball Game of the Week on Saturday afternoons. I mean, I wouldn't trade what we have now (multiple games on each week) for back then, but I do miss how big those weekly national games felt.

- Saw a random USA Today vending machine, still in use, sitting outside Versailles' half-empty shopping center the other day. Honestly can't remember the last time I saw someone reading one of those.

- Bring back the UKIT. Two spots for state schools (rotate between EKU, Morehead, Northern, and Bellarmine). Hold the fourth spot for a team coached by a former Cat or Cat assistant. I'd rather see Kentucky vs. Morehead and BYU vs. Bellarmine than two home gimmes against *checks notes* North Florida and Mount St. Mary's.

- Also, bring back that old Wildcat mascot that used to walk around Rupp on stilts.
