On Skyy, I really think the fan base will get behind him. He is a kid that wants to be here and is trying to get other talented guys to come. Doesn't seem like he is afraid of competition and might actually care about the name on his jersey. With all the talent it looks like we will have, it's great for both parties. His 1st year, he can play limited minutes and is a talented player. With that scenario, very likely to have him at least 2 years. By year 2 he will be completely healthy ( at least from his current injury, and hopefully the only one he ever has), plus he will know the system. I don't want another Askew as the main guy but I think Skyy has way more potential. Plus the NBA is gonna want a decent sample size, after his injury. So we're probably looking at a 2 to 3 year guy, who really wants to be at UK. There may be better options out there and they can come too. Let's give him a chance and see what he can do.
This was the other thing I was curious about and maybe @ralphdaltonfan can enlighten me. Please understand, not calling you out or starting anything. I believe you may know and would like your input. Is there a possibility, that Skyy was playing injured? I competed in high school/college injured. One was a broken bone in the foot and the other required knee surgery. When he appeared average against elite competition, was he playing hurt? I know most of these guys aren't as tough ( or stupid depending on how you see it lol), as athletes that came before them. Seem he has that old school mentality, to a degree. Did he try to get through until a dead period and then worry about it? If there is any chance that was the case, we may be selling him short? I don't know at all but hopefully you will have some insight. Either way, I'd like the kid here and think the fan base will get behind him.

I’m telling you first hand from Mokan people that he has been playing on a bad ankle that he sprained atleast 3 times over the course of the AAU season that limited him and compromised his athleticism and quickness. There was a reason that he had his best weekend the CP3 weekend and that is because he had time to rest and heal that ankle but he never made an excuse or complained but he just pushed through it and he was definitely gonna have a breakout peach jam…. I know people within Mokan and they love the kid and how he works and say he is as humble as they come…. I have seen people call him a prima donna, talked about him painting his toenails and all other things but the kid is tough as a rock and never backs down and I would be willing to bet he won’t be a 2-3 year player. Most on this board don’t understand that he is being brought in to form a trio with Sharpe and Wallace because they all complement each other, what one lacks the other 2 pick up or Vice versa.
This post, is about the disagreement I noticed in this thread. I think you guys are all offering solid points but it's almost impossible to win this debate. Here is the reason, you guys are all right. It wasn't just one thing that caused the disastrous season, it was a combination.
1) The team definitely needed more time together and let's not forget injuries. Brooks coming in late and then Clarke's injury. It was just a mess and no way they got the time they needed.
2) The team wasn't put together as well as it should've been. I do think covid, played a big part. On paper, we thought we had a decent team. I believe Cal did as well but didn't really get to evaluate the way he normally would've.
3) Coaching..... frustrating is all I can say. I really like Cal and after a ridiculous couple years with the drunk. He brought life into this program and made it the place to be. However, there were so many different things he could've done last year. Instead, he just let the bleeding continue. There had to be a reason, I don't think Cal is as ignorant as some believe. Many here pointed out things, like moving Mintz to starting pg, playing Allen more, etc. Is it possible he wanted to make coaching changes and needed a good reason? Cal seems to have a hard time with hurting his assistants feelings. He tends to only let them go, when they move forward in their career. Everyone wanted Antigua back (including Cal), bonus we also got Chin. I'd say we have the strongest coaching staff, in cbb now. Most on this board could've moved players around and had a better record. There were options where we could've had Mintz running pg, with Allen, Brooks, Boston on the floor and then even could've had Sarr in the middle (center position is debatable). That lineup creates space, with decent defense and plays to strengths of the players. If you think Boston is a bad call, see his performance now. I believe there was more to it and Cal got to make every change he wanted. He has a giant ego and is very loyal to his friends. Let's put that in perspective. He had the balls to take a beating last year, with the BBN livid, to spare feelings. Which is crazy, considering he could've just made the changes, unless he was told no... Either that or Cal is really that bad of a coach, which is scary. I don't believe he is that out of touch and I think we're about to have some really exciting years ahead of us. Regardless, it was tough to deal with as a fan.
I could go on but realistically, it was a mixture. No one can take a hard stance and be completely wrong or right. It was a combination and I'm just thankful that it appears we're about to see good times. I'm not trying to argue with anyone, just trying to help with perspective. Last year hurts and it stinks we didn't get to see a tournament the year before. We would've made a pretty good run. I passed the original timeline docs said and I know one thing I want to see is us make a good tourney run. So I'm gonna keep kicking and hopefully this year's team kicks some butt with me. Go Big Blue and appreciate being part of this family. Everyone have a good holiday weekend.

I appreciate the info, which is actually what I suspected. That's in regard to the playing injured. However, with his current injury, not gonna be 100% for a bit. It usually takes about 2 years, for it to be normal. It's gonna feel different and he's gotta learn to trust it. It's gonna be a physical and mental challenge, no walk in the park.
You mentioned a guard trio, which I believe is part of the plan. You'll have to excuse me with my neurological issues but I believe there's another out there we are working on. We're all aware it looks like Sharpe and Wallace, will probably be here. I know there was a 3rd guy, who was discussed on here. It started out as a wishlist but then it looked like it started to become reality. Wish I could remember the other guy. I do believe Allen will be back, at least one more year. Could be off there because he could blow up this year. He's from where I'm from and he has quite the offensive game, with serviceable defense. He should be completely healed up now, so we will see. He has more pro potential than people realize. If Skyy is only here one year, we probably had a pretty good year. I'm alright with a complete reload, if we are hanging a banner. Just gonna be a wait and see what happens. Hopefully, someone else can chime in on the 3rd guy because I'm blanking out.
Third guy was Nick smith who is not a true PG either but if you ask me we are looking at a class of Clark, Wallace, Sharpe, Livingston and Lively or Bona as far as more guards go it was always Wallace or Smith on a first come first serve basis. Smith just canceled his visit which is his right so that tells me they are confident they have Wallace which I have actually known about for close to a month, he was coming to UK the second he got the offer
As far as his injury goes you should follow his Twitter and IG his injury won’t take 2 years it has been said from his doctor that this is a 6 month return to sport injury the 2 year injury you are thinking of is a complete knee tear which is ACL,MCL,PCL, meniscus etc
After doing some reading, it wasn't as bad as I thought. He got lucky in the fact all of the other cartilage, ligaments, etc., looked perfect. That being said I'm still not totally convinced, although I hope you're right. My injury was definitely more extreme than his. I was told around the same timeline, by the doctors. However, I had another athlete tell me it would take about two years before it felt normal. Turns out the athlete was much closer in his evaluation. He does have access to some amazing doctors I would assume, so it's possible. It would be pretty awesome to see that whole team healthy and ready to roll. I'm hoping we go in a late 90s run soon. I've been predicting as soon as K was gone, it would happen. Now of course, the NIL kicks in, which may be the only thing that can slow us down. I believe the rest of cbb is hoping that's the case.

What part of "top tier 5* freshmen OR VETERAN PLAYERS" do you NOT understand? Davion Mintz was/is BEYOND the definition of "veteran player". Last year, he was a 5th year senior, Brandon Boston and Askew were the 2nd tier freshmen that don't care about wins snd losses at UK and never should have been getting the minutes they were getting.

I seldom agree with Jeff but Boston’s effort and results was equivalent of a low 4 star. We are talking about what he did or didn’t do while here.

Point of fact in the most important game of the year, opening round of SEC tourney we had to win, he had 0 points, I say again 0 points, so don’t give me crap about him “ballin”. The kid didn’t flat out ball here and he had every opportunity to do so. His game has many holes in it. It may be the largest contract ever for that spot but it’s chump change for an NBA team. I’ll be very surprised if he makes it in the league.
If Boston doesn't make it in NBA, it will be because he isn't strong enough physically to be a viable NBA player and/or because he still hasn't learned anything about shot selection. Cal hinted that Boston thought more of his own shot making ability than his performances justified. One big key to being a successful professional athlete is playing to your strengths while knowing your limitations. But that is Boston's weakness.
