Hmm that sounds familiar. Wasn’t that Cal’s resume from Memphis when we hired him as well?

This isn’t about Cal, this is about Beard. Seems to be common when some of you are proved wrong, you bring up things that aren’t relevant to try to counter.

But fwiw, Cal’s resume before he came to UK blows double digit loss Beard’s out of the water. He also done it at UMass and Memphis, both being a tier below TT.

Just to even further demonstrate what a massive failure the Beard love in this thread was, doesn’t even look like George is going to UT anymore.

Chris Beard since joining a power 5 program:

112-55 record. 9 NCAA tournament wins
1 title game appearance
2 elite 8s
2 second round losses.
1 conference title
2x conference COY
1x national COY

John Calipari at a power 5 program:

339-93 record. 31-7 NCAA tournament record
1 national title
2 title game appearances
4 Final Fours
7 Elite 8s
8 Sweet 16s
2 NITs

6 time conference winner.
4x conference COY
3x national COY

That's 11 years to 5. Even if Beard had continued his pace and you double his numbers, he doesn't match Cal.

And before you say Cal was at Kentucky, remember what Kentucky looked like when he was hired.

Keep pretending coaching at UK and coaching at TT are equals and worthy of comparison.

It doesn’t matter what Kentucky looked like, Kentucky is Kentucky and its been a winner since the beginning. There’s a reason Calipari wanted to come to UK when he could have cake walked at Memphis.

The worst part of a Cal first fan is the mental gymnastics it takes nowadays to cover his warts. TT and Kentucky? Really? This is beneath you.

What Beard has done at TT is far, far better than what Cal has accomplished at UK of late. The programs couldn’t be more different, and it’s nearly impossible to recruit and win at a program like Tech.

This argument is ridiculous. Beard will win at Texas, and he will become one of the best coaches in the game. Cal will more than likely pick it up, but how much “up” has yet to be seen.

Im not sure how much Cal cares anymore when it comes to competing at the highest level. Beard is dying to get there. That’s the difference. One is hungry, one looks to be content with whatever.

One thing we know, Cal has taken the all time greatest program with by far the most resources of any program and just finished with 9 wins.

You will never see a Beard team at this point in his career be that trash. Mark the post, won’t happen.

I was actually hoping George would go to Texas because that way they wouldn't be a threat for Cason Wallace.
I understand, although it certainly seems like a two horse race (at best) right now. My guess is they end up a distant third, if that.

I hope Beard has a successful career at Texas. Just means more games with competition in conference. Oklahoma always seems to play with a funstyle. Both teams should be upper middle at least among conference teams in basketball with occasional championships in the SEC. Or they might end up like Arkansas have a few good seasons and then realize its hard not only to dominate a conference that includes Kentucky but also to be relevant more than every 3-4 years.

It’s an interesting dynamic. Beard with Texas could be dangerous for UK. One thing is certain, the guy will have UK marked on his calendar every year and will want to come out guns blazing in the conference.

My fear is Cal will do what he did when Barnes came in. Be fearful of the competition, expect to lose a lot of games, and instead of going at it hard - simply pretend it doesn’t matter and we’re all just friends here.

If he does that with Beard we’re going to lose a lot to them. Beard is just as good of a recruiter as Barnes, but a much better floor coach.

If Cal handles Beard the way he handled Barnes coming to UT is an indication, Beard better go ahead and accept the warm greeting and pretend they’ve been friends for 20 years. Because that seems to be Cals end around when he’s afraid of losing. He never acted that way in the CUSA with Cronin, he never acted that way at Memphis with Pearl at UT, but with the talent and competition at a fever pitch in the SEC, he pretends none of it matters. We need Cal to want it as bad as he did before 2012.

I have a feeling we’re going to hate Beard. His style of flopping, his desire to win, and the obnoxious Texas fan base to boot. I’m hoping we roll out to a 10-0 record in the first 4-5 years against them. We certainly should.

He may not even be there by 2025, who knows.

Cal first fan? Tell us the story of how you became a Kentucky fan. I was brought home from the hospital. How about you?

Nicely done, Beard! Huge pick up for the Longhorns by the stud head coach.
