Good for him but I'd say most felt he was vindicated when he won that huge settlement.

I thought Dwayne was vindicated with the 7 million dollar settlement.

I always found it interesting how that FedEx envelope just happened to pop open. It took me 15 minutes to get one open the other day, and I had a knife and a pair of scissors.
It was Emery, but I know what you mean. No way it "popped" open in the hands of an Emery employee who happened to be a huge UCLA fan/booster. Nobody is naive enough to think payments weren't happening in basketball, but they weren't happening like that.

Congrats to #20. I didn't believe for 1 minute DC put $ in that Emery envelope.
I was so glad that he participated in the SEC/ESPN documentary Win or Else.
I know that because of his age the UK position will not be open before he decides to retire, but I always
hoped that he would come back to UK and win another National Championship. It would be fitting for him to put that NCAA trophy high over his head with that big smile.

I met Casey at Clem Haskins’ basketball camp in 1981. He took the time to talk to me after the day’s activities were through. In his speech to the campers he talked about having your priorities right in life, to put Jesus before basketball and living an honorable life.

Congrats to him. I worked with close friend of his at the time... he vehemently stood by Casey... saying it didn’t happen.
BUT I’m not sure you k is the definition of vindication. B

Packages do pop open. If you don't claim you lost item Fed Ex will let you buy it back at an auction in Utah. UPS will sell it back to you on Ebay under a different name. Both companies have warehouses of stuff from packages that popped open.

I have heard of this issue from my father for years. I’m not really old enough to know the details or what the situation with Casey was (born in 85), but what I do know of it definitely seems shady.

Lots of guys my age and younger give the older UK guys a really hard time. I wish all of them the best and that goes for Casey. Personally, I’d take the old UK guard any day of the week over the outsiders like Barnhart today. Just my personal opinion.

Of course they pop open, but a reputable company doesn’t rifle through the contents and leak those contents to the local news media. That is a huge betrayal of trust and it can and should have hurt their reputation.

I met him at the alumni weekend in 2017 basketball thing that Cal hosted in Rupp. After the event we went down to the court to try to meet some players. Casey was off to the side just soaking it all in. He wasn't the main attraction and he knew that but he was still happy. You could just see the emotion from him that he was glad to be back. We went up and talked to him for a few minutes and got a photo with him. He couldn't have been nicer and was one of the last people to leave the court. I was glad to see him back. Happy for him to get in the Kentucky Athletics HoF.

Those packages NEVER just pop open, There were UCLA boosters working there and they were so hurt Chris Mills chose Kentucky they opened the package and placed money in it and the rest is history.
And of course not a soul in the sports media called out this obvious set up, they were too busy piling on and eviscerating UK.

Contrast that to the coverage that favored son Duke has gotten for their various scandals over the years.

It was a made up deal then and now. No way UK or Casey is dumb enough to send money like that.
UK has boosters and Alum all over, if they wanted to pay a kid in CA, plenty of calls they could have made to get that done in person.

Pretty easy to see what happened. UK was asked to compete with UCLA by playing their game, so a UCLA booster took us out before we could take them out.

If my memory serves me correctly, DC had just visited with Mills a couple days earlier. It was shady as all get out.

Right it pops open, there’s a ton of money. And the guy recognizes it’s to a UK recruit

What that package did was expose more of what was going on 'allegedly' around the program:
- the pawn shop / Shawn Kemp
- Eric Manual who totally lost any chance at redemption.

Too much has been written about this and never did it make sense to me someone would mail cash like that to a recruit family member.
Reputation tarnished for a while, but Casey has come out on the better side. President Roselle IMO had nothing and wanted to completely dismantle the basketball program. Sutton adamantly said he wasn't going to resign and then does a 180. What did he get to walk away unscathed? We know, at that time, if you were part of a coaching staff, the entire staff took the fall. Sutton didn't.

We didn't have bitcoin then. No doubt there were many packages of money going to recruits. Guessing most were smart enough to not put their name on it.
