Anyone have any idea how much it'll be? I definitely think he should get a little bump, but Id rather up our assistants' pay.

How stupid does OM look for paying freeze what they did? In the worst sec in over a decade, OM broke the bank for 9 wins. Add that to the fact florida wasn't even after freeze and bjork is looking more foolish than he does on Twitter after a loss.

No one on this message board has a clue about the new contract. All of us can speculate regarding the discussions between Coach Mullen and Scott. Coach has motivated our entire university to achieve a greater goal. That is leadership that we need. (compare that to what we are dealing with in men's basketball). Mullen and Cohen are great leaders and demand excellence.

I agree that we should find every way to keep our top assistants (as best we can). However you look at things, the bar on salaries has gone up everywhere; except for the non-football world.

Got to a least match or beat the Freezers raise. Mullen has raised us higher than we have ever been. The price of poker has gone up. Agree got to get assistants pay up to keep anybody..

I like to see any major change in his contract at this point be performanced based.

The lions share fixed dollars should go to assistant's pay.

What OM pays shouldn't necessarily be a gauge for what we pay. I say kick him up to $3.9mil base and add some incentives. Add $.5mil to staff.

I agree ... it's a lot more reasonable (if we think that the exorbitant salaries that coaches are paid is reasonable, and they're not, but we have to compete). Make things a lot more performance based. I'd prefer to have huge performance incentives and a really low base, but we couldn't get away with that under the current climate.

In defense of Freeze's contract, had they waited until after the bowl he would not be making $4m.

Mullen should be paid $2.8 million per year plus incentives. $200K if we make a bowl game. $200K if we end Tied for 3rd or better in the SEC West.

This now gets him to what he is being paid right now.

$200K if he wins a bowl game.
$500K if he gets to the playoffs in their current format(4 teams).
$200K for each playoff game won.


If he is as confident in his abilities as suggested, then incentives shouldn't be an issue.
Take the $400K less that he is initially paid each year and spread it around to assistants. That isn't enough for them, but its a start.

be the norm but until our competitors go that route you'll never sell it to mullen or freeze. we set freeze up that way at the start but once he had some success there was no way we were going to be able to keep it that way. I can't imaging mullen would go for it either with what he has accomplished for msu.

Agree. He should make about what the other coaches with teams ranked 20-25 make. If we pay him more than $4mm we're bigger idiots than bjdork and the bear queens
