Here's what people need to remember -

Imagine if this guy who can average 7+ assist per game on a bad team can cut down on the turnovers a bit with the help of high level coaching from a guy like Chin Coleman and work on his shooting all summer and get his shooting percentage up not only due to better mechanics, but improved shot selection because you're not trying to do it all for your team. We've seen several guys over the last couple of years bump their 3-pt percentages up substantially - so it's certainly possible. Hell - if he just got back to his freshman year percentages that would be great.

If that happens, what you would have is an experienced SEC starting PG averaging around 10-12 ppg, 6-7 assists per game, a couple of steals per game and shooting say 48% and 32% or so from 3 (his freshmen year numbers). A guy that can distribute the ball and keep the shooters and bigs all happy. A veteran that can provide leadership, and a guy who is transferring because he wants to win a championship.

That's a PG stat-line that everyone would be happy with, and its entirely possible that's what he can deliver.

Lots of straw men being built on this topic. Concerns over a poor-shooting PG with the way the game is being played now are legit if you want a high-level team. If we had a PF that could step out that would help a ton. Wheeler with two bigs will be a spacing issue against good teams.

I don't disagree about him being reckless sometimes. I just attribute it to being the best player on a bad team and having to make a play.

He has his warts. He wouldn't be an option if he didn't.

Wheeler only shot 80 three's last year. He will surely shoot less next year. Not a major concern imo when you have the shooters surrounding him that he will have.

No way Wheeler will play ahead of Washington. Recruiting guru on Leach report this morning says Ty Ty is elite and will be the MAN running KY’s offense.

Agreed. With the shooters and better overall talent around him, coupled with much better coaching, he will accomplish his role very well. I'm sure a ton of coaches out there would love to bring in a Power 5 conference assist leader and ATO ratio leader as a role player / co-PG. Hell, Bill Self wanted him to be the full-time PG.

IMO if we get Wheeler hes not a backup. Tyty can slot in at the 1 or the 2 so i think Cal would be more likely to bring him off the bench bc of positional versatility. I guess we could slide Tyty to the 2 if Wheeler came off bench but hes more proven also so unless Tyty is just THAT good or starting at SG then idk.

i think the 2 and 3 will mostly be interchangeable all season. Unless Brooks or Toppin play minutes at the 3, then itll basically be Point guard- positionless SG/SF, then our bigs.

I think most on here know I always try to be positive, but I have to believe in it to do so. I am not thrilled about Bueler, I mean Wheeler. Look if he can improve his shooting and cut down on the TOs and maybe it was because he had to try to do too much then great. Now that we have TyTy I feel a little more chill because I think he will be a star. However, any small guard that comes to UK is going to be in Ulis's shadow until he proves otherwise. I think a lot of us worry about the fact that a 5ft8 or 10 guy thinks he is close to pro-ready. There is no way he is close. If he came back and played 2-3 more years and really improved every year maybe he would have a shot, maybe.

I think we are worried he is delusional and if he sees his name, not in the draft mocks he will press and be more me than us. At his size, he will have limitations and that's hard to get excited about. But if he commits to us I will try to be positive and will support him of course. I will however be hoping that TyTy gets 1st shot at running the point.

What would kill me is if guys like Wright from Colorado withdraw from the draft and end up somewhere else. It will be what could have been and I don't want another year of missing one piece. We need a great year desperately and I feel like we can have one, but we have to have the right guys.

Yeah, I would feel much better had he made 1 out of every 3. Not sure how that poster came up with that. Noticed what you did when I read his post the first time.

He shot 32% his Freshman year. Id assume he’ll fall somewhere closer to 30% here than 20%. Even if he can shoot similarly to Teague did which was 32% thats plenty fine with me

I hope you're right too. I think he has problems shooting but love his assists numbers. Assists to turnovers isn't bad and he certainly can get better avoiding turnovers. With good players around him he could shine.

For all the naysayers, refute these two points, BOTH factor in his TO's. He was #1 (ONE) (UNO) in assist to turnover ratio a 1.68. So if you have a better PG you like better, he beat them.

The stat of Points Produced Per Game accounts for points scored, assist, and deducts for TO's. He was #3 in the SEC behind ONLY Moses Moody and Scotty Pippen Jr. So, use the high turnover argument, and I still beat you with facts against the TO's. And not even account for the terrible team he played on and shouldered the load of handling the ball and creating, not to mention he had to play 35 minutes per game because there was no other capable ball handler. So take what Askew (only ball handler) did, compared to what Wheeler did. I rest my case. Like Fred G. Sanford said to Lamont "how many times do I got to keep closing this case ?"
Devin played 29 MPG, 6.5 PPG / 2.6 RPG / 2.9 APG.

I agree. No more green freshmen PG running the show unless they are so good you have to play them. Cal plays favorites and that’s probably why Ty came here, but Wheeler has two years under his belt and needs to start. Bring Ty along slowly so he doesn’t feel the pressure. We shall see but a leopard never changes his spots.

He mostly shoots 2 point baskets and he made 47% in 2 seasons of those so he is not a bad shooter. He made over 50% of his 2 point baskets his freshman year playing 29 minutes a game.

He will be starting at the point, playing alongside Grady and Washington. CJ will be coming off the bench.

Here's a new highlight video. One thing I've noticed from watching him is that he's crafty when he gets into the paint and manages to finish and score very well despite being short. Also, take note of when he picked Shackleford's pocket near halfcourt. We need a guy who be a pain like that to opposing guards.

I would love to have Wheeler and would love to see him elevate the play of everyone around him.

Wheeler at kentucky will be different than Wheeler Georgia why? different players, different team, different coach, some know it alls think just cuz they say something it will 100 percent happen. We have 4 shooters on next year's team how many did Georgia have for one, for having so many high chair coaches lots of people don't know the game to well js
