been watching his college highlights. i knew he had the off the dribble three point game. i did not know his level of craftiness inside the arc. i kept watching and wondering how he got shots off in the lane so frequently because he’s not very athletic. then i noticed no shot was the same, and that he shoots off the wrong foot when ever he wants. he keeps people very off balance in those situations. then he just needs an opening with that quick release. if he’s good enough on next year’s team to get a high usage rate he’s going to score a lot of points. not sure on every aspect of his game, but scoring is something he seems to have maxed.

I don't think it can be over stated what a huge pick up Grady was for the team. How often do you get to add a 2,000 point scorer to your squad? I think when the chips are down and we have to get a bucket this is the guy Cal will call on to get it done. Can't wait to see him in action!

Yes Grady is legit. He's absolutely what UK needed. On Saturday if we add Hardy this team will be able to shoot teams outta the gym. I can't imagine Grady, Fredrick, TyTy, Allen, Hardy and another PG to rotate on the perimeter. I think Mintz will ultimately be done playing college.

Not sure if he can score on SEC teams. UT, Ark, Bama, LSU, UF gonna be good.

He will also have to defend. Also playing duke and ul.i hope he will pan out

I didn't realize Grady was a 4 star coming out of HS until I saw the transfer thing under the TyTy commitment with the class moving up to 7th. Getting Grady is probably going to be better than most Top 5 picks out of HS. He has the size and the ability. Surrounded by even better players he will have a chance to be a real star at UK.

I agree. I think we may see a Sheppard, Bogans, Fitch type season from Grady, but with team balance say 13-14 ppg.

Dude never misses! No, but seriously, he uses his body extremely well and uses angles well to get open. Great hesitation with the ball in his hands lets him create space. Obviously, a knock down shooter too, which is always a plus. He will be fun to watch work off the circle screens and run the baseline. Hoping he is utilized in other ways, as well.

His ability to get off a shot reminds me of Jamal Murray. Change of pace dribble, ball fakes, shoulder fakes, head fakes and changing his release point make him a difficult guy to defend.
Agreed and I also like how he used his body coming off screens to shield off the defender trying to switch off the pick. Wide stance and smart angles. Excited to see what he brings to the table.

The Perspective:

He has a similar scoring variety/skills as Herro. Meaning he can fill it up from midrange and that’s what separates pure scorers from just shooters.

If Grady performances and stats at Kentucky against SEC and our top non-conference teams is the same or just a bit better than at Davidson the result will be simply this-

Davidson - All-Conference

Kentucky - Potential NBA Lottery Pick

It’s all perspective and we used to call it the Kentucky Effect

Polished and mature game. Body control and footwork keep his shot motion consistent, similar to Jodie Meeks. Ceiling as a scorer not as high as Meeks but his floor is likely higher than Malik Monk. Maybe a happy medium and better comparison is late season Brandon Knight?

I cannot disagree about shooting ability and having an arsenal of shooters, but we all need to keep in mind that there is only one ball and usually just one shot per possession. Only 200 minutes to distribute. They will not all average 15 points per game, unless we go Loyola Marymount !! It will be a most interesting season.

He loves that running baby hook/floater. He gets good lift on his jumpers too. Really excited about him and CJ working those screens and moving off the ball. Love players that keep moving on O. Apparently TyTy has a knack for this as well.

Truth! But now, with this upcoming team, it’s good to have a team where that ONE BALL has at least a 50/50 chance of going in instead of last years dismal percentages.

Hope he keeps the #31 like my man, Reggie Miller.
It’s funny. That whole thread on Jimmy B. And Reggie, one of my all time faves, clutch shots and memorable stare-downs, was an immaculate shooter with those crossing-hands follow through.

Let me tell ya though, he was an elite trash talker, especially in Madison Square Garden and to MJ and the Bulls. I think Miller even paid for Spike Lee’s tickets to make sure he was front row so that he could clearly hear him. Damn I miss the old days.

Miller, “trade Jordan from the Bulls, and who do they have, nobody.” LMFAO

there is no chance Grady will be a lottery pick. He will be 25 years old before NBA training camps even start ahead of the 2022-23 season (born in Sept of 1997).

Great point! You are much more correct than my statement toward a lottery, but my gist was toward the Kentucky Effect. I’m hoping his stats are simply close or better. For if they are, it’s a very good piece to making a FF run. I want this, and UK fans need this.

Remember Murray struggled some early on. And then Cal got him to work his *** off to get open. And he did. I don't think I've seen another UK player work that hard to get open, always moving. I remember that was what made Chris Lofton (well and his shot) so hard to guard. I think Grady has some of that in him too.

Agree, see so many saying we play these 10, these 11. Not unless using a Platoon!!! (which I want to do, if add 1-2 more)
Others want 12-13 on roster. Unless we add some guys who KNOW they won't play much this year, then we will have a hard time going past 11, or certainly past 12. Ware won't play much.

And as for the points, no one (yet) on the team looks to be significantly better than the rest, so no 20pt scorers, and probably no 15pt scorers. Which is ok, as long as we have multiple guys who can go for 20 on any given night. Right now we know Allen can, and Grady can. Fredrick maybe. Hopefully Tyty, and 1-2 more.

I'm excited about the Grady addition but let's not rewrite history over it. He went 4-14 (1-5 from 3) from the field against Kentucky as a freshman in the NCAA tournament.

Jamal Murray went 1-9 from 3 against IU in the tournament as a Freshman. They have bad games.

True, your point? I never said anything about Grady being a bad player or never having a bad game. I was only replying to the guy who said he lit us up in the NCAA tournament, which he definitely did not. Again I'm excited about the guy but don't see why we need to make up stories about him that aren't true.
