I don't think he's going to find a place in the NBA at least not this year but it doesn't mean he would continue at UK. Overseas would still be a viable option for him but I have a feeling he will continue his education for a master's degree before going overseas
NBA is not an option. Just my opinion.

I would hope and would think the coaching staff knows if he plans to come back. They can only be patient for so long. I guess we will get the answer if we take in additional transfers. Each side has to do what is best for them.

I'm ambivalent about him returning -- he was a bright light in a miserable season, no more or less - but I'm 100 percent about him not dragging out UK's options another month.

I hope this means that Cal understands he's not coming back and has totally moved on.

The structure of college basketball right now -- The NBA draft playing out until June and delaying 100 or so kids from deciding, OAD, universal transfers, no impediment to recruits ignoring LOI -- makes it almost impossible to care about the sport.

He’ll more than likely be back.

I think the quotes around test the waters says it all.

This is just my thinking, but I don't see a spot for him on an NBA roster. I'd like to be wrong on that. He's a good kid and he lived up to his obligations. He's spent enough time in college.

I think he will return and play some PG for UK as this is his way to the NBA.
Come back bc you want to improve and wash away the taste of last season. Don't expect to be put in a position bc it improves your draft stock. That sort of thinking and delegation provided the worst season in UK basketball history. Moving forward the mindset should be about what's best for the team.

Who "tests the waters" but then returns?

I'm sure someone has compiled statistics, but it seems most fanbases that have gone into this thinking positively, end up being let down and never seeing their player return regardless.

We need Hardy and Carr to feel out the roster, if somehow the staff and Cal can make it happen, it would be icing on the cake, if not possibly another bad season.

Not sure UK is in a position now to just move on. I sure saw a lot of transfers who could have replaced Mintz that UK did not reach out to.

Better move on now than in three weeks, unless Cal has an absolute assurance he's coming back -- for the very reason you mention. Could Cal have lured Miller here if he could say flatly - Mintz is gone. His minutes are yours for the taking.
Well Cal is going to have to get off his *** and do something. It's May and we have 2 whole guards on our roster. It would be different if we just needed one more guy but now we need 3 or four.

Why do you say that? Just because he doesn’t get drafted doesn’t mean he won’t have sign on options or overseas options. He’s only getting older and I don’t see him (if able) trying to come back to what will inevitably be another bad season.

Cringe - this is such a beta post.

There really wouldn't be the need to keep the option open of coming back if he was looking to head overseas or G-LEAGUE if he goes undrafted. It's not like he would run the risk of those options not being there. It's clear as day he is looking for feedback and maybe a potential free agent deal, otherwise he will be at UK next year. Which seems inevitable now.

LOL at people who took this as bad news. You really think he is going to say "I am coming back, no need using the FREE evaluation the NBA provides to players, I will just announce I am a failure and 0% chance of getting drafted, I will go back to UK and pray I improve ?" Good lord people, they are ENCOURAGED to get the free evaluation EVEN if the have NO intentions of going pro. Hell did Brad not do it one year ? Keion Brooks and EJ Montgomery both did it, knowing damn well the where not getting drafted, and they BOTH came back. It is a free chance to hear what scouts think of your game, nothing more, nothing less for Mintz.

DAVE- I don’t know you and I mean this in the nicest way..... when I first saw you post a year or so ago everyone said you were a great guy, a great UK fan, and brought solid news to this forum. Kudos for that. However; since I started trying to keep up I don’t think you’ve gotten a prediction right yet. Hopefully you start breaking some good solid news again. PEACE.

I support the dude 100%! But he’s not getting drafted to the NBA even if there were 4 rounds!

Comical. He’s only “testing the waters” to get a look from a foreign club somewhere. Happens all the time with guys with his skill set. Good luck!

This guy just needs to type "I hope" before all of his posts and they all make much more sense.

‘Figuring out when that time is right while weighing my love for Kentucky and thinking about the possibilities of next season has not been easy, and to be fully honest and transparent, I have not come to a decision yet of what I will ultimately do.’

I believe him.

Fill at least 12 roster spots if you can. Leave one spot available for Mintz if he wants to come back. But if he isn't all in, we have to move on and make sure we meet our needs. Then if he comes back, great. If not, then we're prepared.

Cal can’t have indecision’s. What has bite him in the past is thinking one thing and then the kid decides to play or go pro. To me you recruit over every player just like in football. You take the best player available and don’t worry who it offend.

And the best part about it is we'll probably have to wait until mid to late June for his final decision. Just lovely.

Cal encourages guys to go get the info they need. They guys who are not getting drafted, get free intel from scouts and learn what part of their game they need to work on most to improve their stock. PJ Washington did it, and he was a helluva lot more of a prospect than Mintz (no offense, I want him back), they told PJ to work on his body, extend his range out to the 3 point line. He came back and did both. There is a difference in a player entering just to get the hell out of school, and then there are guys who really use it to gain valuable info of what they need to improve on. My guess, scouts will tell Mintz he needs to work on his handles, playmaking, and become a solid two guard, and even work on his body and strength. JMHO, bet I am not far off.
